BACKGROUND: The supercapsular percutaneously-assisted total hip approach for total hip arthroplasty (THA) may reduce soft-tissue injury, but objective evidence comparing muscle damage with a conventional postero-lateral approach (PLA) is limited. This randomized controlled trial compared postoperative periacetabular muscle damage using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
METHODS: Patients undergoing primary unilateral THA were randomized to SuperPATH or PLA. The primary outcome was the between-group difference in quadratus femoris muscle fatty infiltration at 12 months on MRI. The secondary out

BACKGROUND: Maudsley Family Therapy (MFT), and its manualised version, Family-Based Therapy (FBT), are the only well-established treatment interventions for adolescent anorexia nervosa (AN), with treatment efficacy primarily measured by improvements in eating behaviours and weight restoration. A crucial component of this therapy is an intensive home-based refeeding intervention that requires a substantial commitment from parents for up to one year. While this treatment works to restore weight in a proportion of adolescents, very little is known about its impacts on family distress, relationshi

BACKGROUND: Achilles tendon rupture can result in persistent impairments in neuromuscular function and associated joint mechanics, reflecting altered neural-mechanical coupling despite surgical or nonsurgical treatment and structured rehabilitation. However, knowledge of how these deficits affect lower limb muscle coordination and joint power distribution across the kinematic chain remains limited.
AIM: This cross-sectional exploratory study investigated side-to-side differences in muscle activation, range of motion, joint power, joint moment, and support moment during walking and running one

The Nordic Hamstring Exercise (NHE) is widely used to assess hamstring strain injury (HSI) risk, but the joint angles and resulting hamstring muscle-tendon unit (MTU) lengths are dissimilar to sprinting, which may limit sensitivity. The Maximum-Speed Single-Leg Bridge Test (MS-SLBT) was developed to assess hamstring function at joint angles better resembling sprinting, but a direct comparison to the NHE and published sprint kinematics is lacking. This cross-sectional study compared muscle activation of the semitendinosus, biceps femoris, gluteus maximus, medial gastrocnemius, and rectus femori

Chronic proximal hamstring tears, often resulting from sports-related trauma or repetitive strain, present a challenging clinical scenario characterized by long-standing tendon damage and functional impairment. These injuries, particularly common in the fourth and fifth decades of life, significantly affect an individual's quality of life and athletic performance and require effective treatment strategies. Surgical intervention is indicated when conservative treatments fail, with the primary goal of restoring the mechanical function of the hamstrings. Traditional primary repair may not be feas

BACKGROUND: The use of quadriceps tendon (QT) autograft for anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction has been increasing since 2014. Studies have shown that QT is comparable to hamstring tendon (HT) and bone-patellar tendon-bone (BTB) autografts in terms of outcomes, although QT autograft has lower rates of donor site morbidity. Systematic reviews and meta-analyses have been previously conducted on this topic, although none have focused solely on data of patients at least 5 years out from surgery.
HYPOTHESIS/PURPOSE: The purpose of this meta-analysis was to demonstrate that QT may not

PURPOSE: To investigate kneeling tolerance in patients undergoing hamstring (HT) versus quadriceps (QT) anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) and investigate correlation with patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs).
METHODS: After recruitment and randomisation, 112 patients (HT = 55; QT = 57) underwent ACLR. Patients were assessed at 6, 12 and 24 months using the Kneeling Tolerance Test, which evaluates patient-reported pain in a position of both 90 (KT90) and 110 (KT110) degrees of knee flexion. PROMs collected included the International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC) quest

BACKGROUND: Anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) often involves harvesting a bone-patellar tendon-bone (BPTB) autograft. How graft harvest affects tendon strain across the 3 distinct regions (medial, lateral, and central) is not known.
PURPOSE: To (1) quantify strain in the 3 regions of the patellar tendon during 60% of maximum voluntary isometric contraction (MVIC) in 90° of knee flexion and (2) assess how effort level in 2 different knee joint angles (60° and 90°) impacts strain in the medial and lateral regions of the patellar tendon, in 2 cohorts of patients after ACLR using a

BACKGROUND: Graft selection is an important part of preoperative planning for anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR). In addition, ACLR with the remnant preservation technique has recently gained attention due to potential benefit in bone-tendon healing, graft revascularization, and proprioceptive nerve remodeling. However, the ideal graft choice remains controversial, and there is limited research comparing autograft and allograft in ACLR with remnant preservation.
PURPOSE: To compare knee muscle strength, neuromuscular control, and patient-reported outcomes between hamstring (HS)

BACKGROUND: Asymmetric landing kinetics 6 months after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) are associated with higher risk of second anterior cruciate ligament injury. Little is known about landing kinetics after ACLR with an all-soft tissue quadriceps tendon (QT) autograft despite its increasingly common use in young, active patients.
PURPOSE/HYPOTHESIS: The purpose of this study was to compare landing kinetics during a bilateral drop vertical jump (DVJ) 6 months after ACLR in participants who had undergone primary ACLR with a QT or bone-patellar tendon-bone (BTB) autograft. The

INTRODUCTION: anterior cruciate ligament rupture has evolved to be one of the most common sports injuries with a remarkable increase in its incidence in the last two decades, with Return-To-Sport being a crucial approach in the choice of autologous graft for its surgical repair, the most commonly used being hamstring and quadriceps tendon graft.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: a prospective randomized study was performed with 32 patients divided into two groups, one for each type of graft, with 13 patients in each. They were evaluated before surgery, at 30, 180 and 360 days after the procedure using sc

INTRODUCTION: More extensive and cohesive studies on quadriceps tendon rupture (QTR) repair surgery are required to guide effective treatment strategies. Therefore, in this study, we aimed to identify predictors of subjective functional recovery following QTR repair surgery.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: This multicentre retrospective cohort study enrolled 191 adults (age ≥ 18 years) who underwent surgical unilateral QTR repair (2010-2022) and had ≥ 1-year postoperative follow-up at three trauma centres in Germany. Multiple linear regression and moderation analyses evaluated seven patient-centred fa

CASE: An active healthy 68-year-old male sustained a bilateral quadriceps tendon rupture while running. He underwent a simultaneous bilateral quadriceps tendon repair in a dual-surgeon approach. The right quadriceps tendon was repaired with a tourniquet, while the left quadriceps tendon tear was repaired without one. Postoperatively, the patient developed deep vein thrombosis in the right leg, which led to a bilateral pulmonary embolism. This case illustrates a potential complication of tourniquet use in patients undergoing quadriceps tendon repairs.
CONCLUSION: The use of tourniquets in orth

INTRODUCTION: Patellar tendinopathy (PT) rehabilitation programmes frequently incorporate eccentric exercise (EE), where participants have limited control over the range of motion, speed, force production and load. Newly developed training protocols that employ visual feedback with specialised devices offer controlled management of loads, speeds and forces across the full range of motion, potentially providing greater benefits.
OBJECTIVE: This protocol outlines a randomised controlled trial designed to compare the effects of a visuomotor torque feedback (TF) protocol with a traditional EE pro
