Inflammatory changes of the shoulder joint could be detected at a very early stage, when the clinical and radiological examinations were unremarkable. In 50% of the cases a rupture of the rotator cuff could be demonstrated. Calcific tendinitis at the site of origin of the rectus femoris muscle is a rare lesion. Presumed to be formed by deposition of hydroxyapatite crystals, this entity may be confused with other lesions such as os acetabuli or posttraumatic abnormalities. The characteristic location and appearance of the calcifications in a symptomatic patient with no history of trauma should allow diagnosis and subsequent symptomatic therapy.

Author examined the effect of adductor tenotomies in spastic patients. The changes of passive abduction, of the shaft-neck angle, of Wiberg's angle and of the decentric distance are evaluated following the operation. It was found that the change of the supplementary development of the acetabulum decreases with the time. With this operation the scissoring gait and the subluxation of the hip can be eliminated.

Twenty cerebral palsy patients who had undergone soft-tissue surgery at the hip (adductor tenotomy, medial lengthening of the hamstrings) were compared with a matched group of another 20 patients with a similar age range and findings and with additionally performed iliopsoas release, 2 or more years after surgery. A new method of performing iliopsoas recession in patients with cerebral palsy is described. The approach to the tendon is made by means of a medial incision. The method has been used on seven hips, and the results are comparable to those obtained by a formal anterior approach.
