Retrospective analysis of suicide cases in the province of Ferrara.

INTRODUCTION: In 2016, the Postgraduate School of Forensic Medicine of the University of Ferrara presented a paper at the Annual Congress of the AAFS that analyzed some characteristics of suicides in the territory of the Province of Ferrara between 1996 and July 2016. This presentation is intended to stand as an ideal follow-up to that work. Since 2017, the number of suicides in Italy has been progressively decreasing and peaked in 2021 (0.40 per 10,000 inhabitants). In Emilia-Romagna, available data confirm a steady decline in the number of suicides since 2001. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Records

Lateral Extra-articular Procedures Reduce the Risk of Revision of Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction in Elite Athletes: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis of Comparative Studies.

BACKGROUND: Lateral extra-articular procedures (LEAPs) have gained increasing attention as an adjunct to anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR), particularly in individuals at high risk for reinjury. When combined with ACLR, LEAPs contribute to the restoration of normal knee kinematics and provide a significant reduction in residual anterior laxity compared with isolated ACLR. This added stability provides a protective effect on the intra-articular graft, promoting improved healing and integration while reducing mechanical stress on the reconstructed anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).

Novel parathyroid hormone-based bone graft substitute, KUR-111, in treatment of tibial plateau fractures: a prospective, randomised, open-label, multicenter study.

BACKGROUND: The treatment of closed tibial plateau fractures (TPF) is complex and carries a risk of malunion. Parathyroid hormone (PTH) plays a key role in bone metabolism, and a PTH-peptide (PTH1 - 34) promotes bone healing. The objective was to evaluate the safety and efficacy of a novel PTH-based bone-graft-substitute (KUR-111) in the treatment of TPF. METHODS: The study was a randomised, controlled, multicenter, open-label (dose-blinded), and dose-finding clinical trial. Subjects were randomised into 3 groups (iliac crest autograft (control); KUR-111-low; and high-dose TGplPTH1-34). The p

Clinical and economic impact of wound care in the UK: a critical review of Guest's publications, 2015-2025.

Wound care in the UK has long been challenging, clinically complex and economically burdensome. Wounds affect millions of patients annually, costing the NHS billions of pounds. Despite the scale of this problem, wound care services have historically been subject to fragmentation, variable clinical practice, delayed interventions, a lack of coordinated policy focus and poor data collection. Between 2015 and 2025, this situation has persisted in the face of increasing pressure on NHS resources, rising patient demand and growing evidence of suboptimal outcomes, particularly for chronic wounds suc

Clinical and Radiographic Patterns of Charcot Arthropathy of the Knee: A Report of 3 Cases.

CASE: Three patients aged 29, 30, and 38 with diabetes mellitus presented with medial tibial plateau fractures after the insidious onset of knee pain. All were treated with open reduction and internal fixation that failed early and required revision surgery. None were initially diagnosed with a neuropathic knee. In retrospect, the clinical scenario and fracture patterns were similar and should raise suspicion for charcot arthropathy. CONCLUSION: Atraumatic pain with a progressive deformity and fragmentation of the medial plateau are concerning for Charcot knee. Correct diagnosis is crucial to

Comparative Outcomes of Arthroscopic Versus Open Meniscus Repair: An Observational Study.

INTRODUCTION: Meniscal tears are among the most frequent knee injuries requiring surgical intervention. Arthroscopic repair has largely supplanted open repair due to its minimally invasive nature, yet long-term comparative outcomes remain poorly characterized. This study compared clinical outcomes of arthroscopic versus open meniscus repair using a large multicenter electronic health record database. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We performed a retrospective cohort analysis using the TriNetX US Collaborative Network, including adult patients (18-60 years) who underwent meniscus repair between 2010 a
