Computed tomography and 3D visualization in forensic shooting distance estimation - A ballistic gelatine pilot study.

Accurate estimation of shooting distance is one of the main aspects in forensic gunshot case reconstruction. Reliable methods to estimate shooting distance are thus important for forensic practitioners. In this pilot study we test how computed tomography (CT) based evaluation of bullet cavitation could potentially be utilized to differentiate shooting distance. To conduct our study, we utilized ballistic gelatine blocks as a soft tissue simulant. Test shooting was performed from two distances, 20 and 100 m. Four expanding monolithic bullets were used all in 0.30 caliber (Barnes TTSX, Sako Blad

Minimal Propofol Dosing Triggers Propofol-Related Infusion Syndrome (PRIS) in a Geriatric Burn Patient: A Brief Report of Complex Burn Pharmacokinetics.

Background Propofol is an intravenous hypnotic agent widely used for anesthesia and sedation in critically ill, mechanically ventilated patients due to its rapid onset and offset, which facilitate ventilator weaning and extubation. Despite these benefits, propofol's lipid emulsion formulation poses an infection risk and is associated with propofol-related infusion syndrome (PRIS). PRIS is characterized by acute bradycardia that is resistant to treatment and may progress to asystole. Objectives We report the case of a 76-year-old woman who sustained full-thickness burns covering 30% of her tota

Altered gait biomechanics after peroneus longus tendon harvest for anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction : truth or myth?

AIMS: The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of peroneus longus tendon (PLT) harvest on gait biomechanics following anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. There is scarce evidence in the literature about the safety of PLT as a potential graft for ACL reconstruction, and no long-term studies with gait assessment exist. We analyzed changes in spatiotemporal parameters (STPs) using a computerized gait analysis system and assessed functional ambulation over time. METHODS: This prospective cohort study included 31 patients, including 23 males and eight females. The mean agewas

Effect of Additional Centralization Procedure on Intraoperative Ultrasound-Assessed Medial Meniscal Extrusion Compared With Medial Meniscal Posterior Root Repair Alone.

BACKGROUND: Medial meniscal extrusion (MME) contributes to knee osteoarthritis and is often caused by a medial meniscal posterior root tear (MMPRT). Although early surgical repair of MMPRT improves outcomes, MME often persists. Centralization techniques aim to reduce meniscal extrusion by anchoring the capsule to the tibial plateau; however, their clinical effectiveness when combined with MMPRT repair remains uncertain. PURPOSE: To evaluate the efficacy of centralization combined with MMPRT repair in reducing MME using intraoperative ultrasound. STUDY DESIGN: Case series; Level of evidence,

The Effects of Neuromuscular Training and Additive Visual Biofeedback on Landing Biomechanics and Sensorimotor Brain Activity in Young Female Athletes.

INTRODUCTION: Anterior cruciate ligament injuries are debilitating, often requiring surgical reconstruction and prolonged recovery. Female adolescent athletes are at particularly high risk for anterior cruciate ligament injury and display distinct neuromuscular control patterns during jump landing that further increase injury risk. Neuromuscular training (NMT) designed to reduce injury risk can be enhanced with automated movement corrective biofeedback to improve neuromuscular control and landing biomechanics; however, the central nervous system responses to targeted NMT that underlie adaptive
