BACKGROUND: Honey is a viscous, supersaturated sugar solution derived from nectar gathered and modified by the honeybee, Apis mellifera. Honey has been used since ancient times as a remedy in wound care. Evidence from animal studies and some trials has suggested honey may accelerate wound healing.
OBJECTIVES: The objective was to determine whether honey increases the rate of healing in acute wounds (burns, lacerations and other traumatic wounds) and chronic wounds (venous ulcers, arterial ulcers, diabetic ulcers, pressure ulcers, infected surgical wounds).

A total of 65 suicidal cases due to sharp force injuries (cut and/or stab wounds) were investigated. Suicide by sharp force injuries accounted for 2.5% of all suicides in our prefecture during 1995-2005. The 65 victims were composed of 49 males and 16 females, and the age range of 50-70 years was most common. We report the case of an isolated atherosclerotic aneurysm of the superficial femoral artery (SFA). The patient was a 76-year-old man who presented with intermittent claudication and muscle weakness in his right leg. Angiography showed an aneurysm in the lower portion of the right SFA, but no abdominal aortic aneurysm or any other peripheral aneurysms were detected. Management of bone loss that occurs after severe trauma of open lower extremity fractures continues to challenge reconstructive surgeons. Sixty-one patients who had 62 traumatic open lower extremity fractures and combined bone and composite soft-tissue defects were treated with the following protocol: extensive debridement of necrotic tissues, eradication of infection, and vascularization of osteocutaneous tissue for one-stage bone and soft-tissue coverage reconstruction. Retrograde arterialized venous flaps were applied to skin and soft-tissue defects in 13 patients with an average age of 34.4 years. Ten defects were located on the hand, and three on the lower leg. OBJECTIVE: To study a new kind of operation for displaced talar neck fractures.
METHODS: From April 1996 to March 2001, 9 talar neck fractures were treated by internal fixation of absorbable lag screw with a medial approach and cut of medial malleolus to expose the fractures. A non-weight-bearing below-knee cast was applied for 6 to 12 weeks after operation. Once union of the fracture site is apparent, the patient should remain non-weight bearing in a removable short-leg and keep exercise every day.
