Insect cuticle is one of the most common biological materials, yet very little is known about its mechanical properties. Many parts of the insect exoskeleton, such as the jumping legs of locusts, have to withstand high and repeated loading without failure. This paper presents the first measurements of fracture toughness for insect cuticle using a standard engineering approach. Between 1999 and 2011 the Endo-Exo femur prosthesis has been applied to 54 patients. This comparatively new method for patient rehabilitation after upper leg amputation includes a two-step surgical procedure. BACKGROUND: Rotational Malalignment is abnormal rotational alignment between proximal and distal parts of femoral bone. If there is more than 15 degrees of rotational malalignment in femoral bone, the patient will have abnormality of gait and they will have difficulties to perform their daily life activities. The chances to have rotational malalignment in femoral fracture are increased after intramedullary nailing which is more than plate and screws fixation. This prospective study aimed at examining various injuries to the neck structures in deaths due to constriction of neck. Neck dissection technique, as advocated by Prinsloo and Gordon was undertaken to study the injuries to the thyro-hyoid complex, strap muscles, carotid vessels, etc. Of the 1746 medico-legal autopsies, conducted during the study period, 5% were deaths due asphyxia of which 82% were those of constriction of neck. The incidence of pediatric and adolescent deaths due to unnatural means is increasing. Fatal strangulation constitutes a significant group of violent deaths. AIM: The authors present their own experience in the treatment of war injuries to the extremities during the war in Croatia and in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
METHOD: From November 1991 until April 1994, 186 patients with war injuries to the extremities were treated. Thirty patients with 33 arterial injuries from blunt trauma of the lower extremity at Chulalongkorn Hospital, Bangkok, Thailand from January 1989 to December 1995 were reviewed. Eight patients (26.6%) were in shock on arrival. Twenty four (80%) presented with signs of ischemia.
