Congenital Genu Recurvatum: Report of Two Cases.

BACKGROUND: Congenital hyperextension of the knee joint is a rare malformation with a variety of names, principally genu recurvatum of knee, backward bending of the knee, and dislocation of knee. Abnormal anterior hyperextension position and limitation of flexion of tibiofemoral joint are the classical clinical presentation in an infant at birth. The accurate etiology of the malformation is undetermined. Congenital genu recurvatum (CGR) can occur as an isolated entity or can present in association with other congenital abnormalities like talipes equinovarus, developmental dysplasia of the hip,

Ipsilateral Knee Dislocation and Ankle Fracture Dislocation.

INTRODUCTION: A dislocated knee is a potential limb-threatening injury. Simultaneous dislocation of knee and ankle joint in an ipsilateral limb is a very rare pattern of injury. A few cases of ipsilateral hip and knee dislocation were described in literature. Rare injury such as posterior dislocation knee with ipsilateral ankle fracture dislocation cases was also presented. However, lateral dislocation of knee along with the same side ankle fracture dislocation is a rare scenario. To the best of our knowledge, these two simultaneous lesions do not seem to have been reported previously. Immedia

Bruck syndrome in 13 new patients: Identification of five novel FKBP10 and PLOD2 variants and further expansion of the phenotypic spectrum.

Bruck Syndrome (BS) is a very rare disorder characterized by osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) associated with congenital contractures and is caused by mutations in FKBP10 or PLOD2 genes. Herein, we describe 13 patients from 9 unrelated Egyptian families with BS. All patients had white sclerae, recurrent fractures, kyphoscoliosis and osteoporosis with variable degrees of severity. Large joint contractures were seen in 11 patients, one patient had contractures of small interphalangeal joints, and one patient had no contractures. Unusual findings noted in individual patients included microcephaly, de

Open Reduction of Neglected Knee Dislocation: Case Report of a Rare Injury.

Old neglected dislocation of knee joint is a rare injury. Any orthopaedic surgeon would have faced only a few cases of unreduced neglected dislocation in his life time practice. We report the case of a 30-year old male patient with one month old unreduced knee dislocation which was managed with open reduction and stabilization with two intra-articular crossed Steinman pins for six weeks, followed by removal of the pins and gradual weight bearing in hinged knee brace. At the end of one year, range of movement of knee joint was 0 to 50 degree with minimal knee pain on walking.

Neglected surgically intervened bilateral congenital dislocation of knee in an adolescent.

Neglected bilateral congenital dislocation of knee is unusual. A 12 year old boy presented with inability to walk due to buckling of the knee. The symptoms were present since the child learnt walking. He preferred not to walk. Bilateral supracondylar femoral osteotomy was done at the age of 6 years. Patient had a fixed flexion deformity of both knees, 30° in the right (range of flexion from 30° to 45°) and 45° fixed flexion deformity in left knee respectively (range of flexion from 45° to 65°) when presented to us. The radiological examination revealed bilateral congenital dislocation of knee

Dislocation following total knee arthroplasty: A report of six cases.

BACKGROUND: Dislocation following total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is the worst form of instability. The incidence is from 0.15 to 0.5%. We report six cases of TKA dislocation and analyze the patterns of dislocation and the factors related to each of them. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Six patients with dislocation of knee following TKA are reported. The causes for the dislocations were an imbalance of the flexion gap (n=4), an inadequate selection of implants (n=1), malrotation of components (n=1) leading to incompetence of the extensor mechanism, or rupture of the medial collateral ligament (MCC). Ipsilateral dislocation of knee, foot and ankle.

We present a case of ipsilateral dislocation of the knee, ankle and midfoot. No previous report of this combination of injuries was found in a review of the literature. In spite of the type of injury, no neurovascular compromise or complications turned up. Closed reduction of the dislocations was possible and performed under general anaesthesia. At the last examination, 4 years after injury, the alignment of the joints was preserved, and the range of motion of the three joints resembled that of the opposite side. Without fractures, the closed reduction and temporary immobilisation of all the a

Posterolateral dislocation of the knee joints: analysis of 9 cases.

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the traumatic pathological characteristics of posterolateral dislocation of knee joints and its treatment. METHODS: Nine cases of posterolateral dislocation of knee joint, 5 cases of fresh injuries (the fresh injury group) and 4 cases of old injuries ( the old injury group) were reviewed and analyzed. In the fresh injury group 4 cases failed in close reduction due to "buttonholing" through the medial joint, among them 3 cases underwent repair of the damaged ligaments. In the old injury group 2 cases underwent ACL and MCL repair only in acute stage, but re-dislocated. Of

[Treatment of complications of complete dislocation of the knee joint].

12 cases of complete dislocation of knee joint were reported. Of them, 5 were anterior, 3 posterior, 2 rotational and the remaining 2 were uncertain. Neurovascular complications occurred in 5: 3 with injury of popliteal vessels, 2 with injury of peroneal nerves. The limbs of the cases with vascular injury were all saved after repair of the vessel in 2, and following conservative treatment in 1. Surgical repair of cruciate and collateral ligaments as well as the capsule were properly carried out in 11 cases, in early due time. One of them has also had peripheral tear of meniscus which was repai
