Adverse events of romidepsin versus tucidinostat for peripheral T-cell lymphoma: a pharmacovigilance study using the Japanese adverse drug event report database.

BACKGROUND: Peripheral T-cell lymphoma (PTCL) is a heterogeneous group of lymphomas with poor prognosis, particularly in patients with relapsed or refractory (R/R) disease. Romidepsin and tucidinostat are histone deacetylase inhibitors used to treat R/R PTCL. No head-to-head post-marketing surveillance studies have compared adverse events (AEs) between the two agents. In this brief report, the AE profiles of romidepsin and tucidinostat were compared using the Japanese Adverse Drug Event Report (JADER) database to facilitate their differentiation and promote the management of AEs. METHODS: We c

Simultaneous surgical treatment of multiple abdominal echinococcosis and benign pelvic organ tumours: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Echinococcosis of the liver is a parasitic infection that poses a significant healthcare challenge in endemic regions. The majority of cases present with either no clinical signs or non-specific ones, making differential diagnosis difficult until after the operation. Preoperative diagnostics rely mainly on computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, and ultrasound. The usual treatment for liver echinococcosis involves an operation, such as percutaneous intervention, surgical resection of the cyst as well as surrounding liver tissue, or major liver resection, followed by prolon

Differentiated effects of sources of malaria messages on mosquito bed net use among women of reproductive age in Uganda: a propensity score matched analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Malaria remains a significant public health challenge, particularly in high-burden settings such as Uganda. Social and Behaviour Change Communication (SBCC) interventions play a vital role in influencing knowledge, attitudes, and practices related to malaria prevention. However, despite the widespread promotion of mosquito bed net (MBN) use, there is limited evidence on the comparative effectiveness of different media platforms in encouraging their adoption. This study estimated the effect of exposure to malaria messages from different media platforms on MBN use among women of re

Important potential risks not reflected in Japanese drug labeling: implications for risk management plan termination.

BACKGROUND: Risk management plans (RMPs) support lifecycle management of drug-related risks. In Japan, however, their use in clinical practice remains limited, and healthcare professionals often rely on the package insert for safety information. After RMP termination at re-examination, healthcare professionals may no longer readily identify unresolved risks absent from the package insert through either the package insert or the Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency (PMDA) RMP source. OBJECTIVES: We investigated the extent to which important potential risks in RMPs are reflected in the pa

The importance of the tortoise tick Hyalomma aegyptium as a carrier of bacterial agents on a wide range.

Ticks are important vectors of various microorganisms, including bacteria. In this study, we examined Hyalomma aegyptium ticks collected from 240 spur-thighed tortoises Testudo graeca at 42 localities in the Mediterranean and Middle East and analysed them for the presence of bacteria of the genera Anaplasma, Borrelia, Coxiella, and Rickettsia. Altogether, 576 out of 928 analysed ticks (62.1%) were positive for at least one of the tested bacteria. The highest prevalence in individual ticks was found for Borrelia turcica (43.6%), followed by Rickettsia (12.3%) and Anaplasma (6.1%). No sample was

Community acceptance of Ivermectin mass drug administration for malaria in Southern Thailand.

Thailand's goal to eliminate malaria by 2030 faces significant challenges, in part due to inadequate vector control measures. Innovative strategies, such as mass drug administration (MDA) of ivermectin, have shown promise in improving vector control efforts. This study aims to assess the factors influencing the acceptance of ivermectin MDA among residents in southern Thailand. In 2022, a cross-sectional study was conducted in three districts of Surat Thani Province, southern Thailand, where an ivermectin MDA program was planned. Quantitative data were collected through structured surveys admin

Molecular docking to homology models of human and Trypanosoma brucei ERK8 that identified ortholog-specific inhibitors.

Human African Trypanosomiasis (HAT), also known as sleeping sickness, is a lethal disease caused by two vector-borne parasites: Trypanosoma brucei gambiense and Trypanosoma brucei rhodesiense. The limited number of antitrypanosomal therapies for treating these deadly parasites suffer from toxicity, poor efficacy, and unspecified targets; thus, more and better medicines are needed. We used in silico methods to predict features of the bioactive compound AZ960 that make it an ortholog-specific inhibitor for the extracellular-signal regulated kinase 8 of T. brucei (TbERK8). Our homology models sho

An Investigation of Mucosal Leishmaniasis in the Military Health System.

Leishmaniasis is a protozoal infection with an increased risk of transmission to those serving in the U.S. Military due to theaters of operation in endemic regions. There has, in recent decades, been robust experience with old-world leishmaniasis in the Military Health System (MHS); however, new-world leishmaniasis, which may result in mucosal leishmaniasis, has been less studied. A total of 88 patients from 2012 to 2022 with diagnosis codes for "mucocutaneous leishmaniasis" or "leishmaniasis, unspecified" were identified in the Military Data Repository and reviewed. Within this cohort, upon m

An Unusual Case of Anterior Mediastinal Cystic Echinococcosis Successfully Resolved with Multidisciplinary Approach.

Human echinococcosis is a zoonotic disease caused by accidental ingestion of tapeworm eggs of the genus Echinococcus, shed in the feces of animal definitive host. In the human duodenum, these eggs release oncospheres, which penetrate the intestinal wall and via the bloodstream reach the liver-the most common site for development of cysts. However, it is important to remember that any other organ can be affected via the bloodstream, due to larvae size. In Europe, the most diagnostically relevant species are Echinococcus granulosus, with a median incidence of 0.6 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, a

The real-world analysis of adverse events with azacitidine: a pharmacovigilance study based on the FAERS and WHO-VigiAccess databases.

BACKGROUND: Azacitidine is used to treat myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) and acute myeloid leukemia (AML). It acts as a cytosine analog and DNA methyltransferase inhibitor, inducing DNA hypomethylation to reverse epigenetic modifications and restore normal gene expression. However, adverse events (AEs) associated with azacitidine are mainly reported in clinical trials, with limited real-world evidence. This study aims to assess the AE profile of azacitidine by utilizing data from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS) and WHO-VigiAccess databases. METHODS
