Injuries to vessels and nerves are very rare complications of arthroscopic meniscal surgery. The clinical development and diagnosis of such complications are described and illustrated by cases described in the literature and by two of our own cases. Tendocutaneous free flap transfer has been used to treat troublesome wounds involving skin and tendons, with the dorsum of the foot being the most frequent donor site. Tibial plateau fractures can occur concomitant with injuries to the collateral and cruciate ligaments, menisci, and surrounding nerves and arteries. The purpose of this article is to record the frequency of these soft tissue injuries with tibial plateau fractures. Anatomic dissections were performed on five cadaveric lower extremities. Measurements of important neurovascular structures in relation to the fibula were obtained at 1-cm intervals along the length of the fibula with the tip of the fibular head as the reference point. Any knee that is dislocated or that has both anterior and posterior cruciates and one collateral ligament torn should be carefully evaluated for neurologic and vascular injury. A retrospective review is presented of neurologic complications in our first 143 consecutive adult patients (208 liver transplants in 143 adults and 18 children) undergoing liver transplantation. Nineteen (13.2%) of the 143 patients developed neurologic complications in the postoperative period. Immunosuppression was initiated intraoperatively with steroids with the addition of azathioprine on Day 1 and cyclosporine, adjusted by RIA to a level of 400-600 ng/ml, on Day 2 post-transplantation. Complete dislocation of the knee is recognized to be an extremely severe injury, representing one of the few true orthopedic emergencies. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate complications of laparoscopic hysterectomy.
METHODS: A retrospective analysis of complications was tabulated from hospital and office records. Forty-five consecutive patients had laparoscopic hysterectomies from November 1991 to November 1992. Complications were divided into operative, anesthetic, postoperative, nursing, and equipment. Each complication was subjectively graded from mild to severe.

PURPOSE: It is believed that secondary operations involving the inguinal region are associated with a significant morbidity that includes infection, lymphatic obstruction, lymphorrhea, and neurovascular injury. In a retrospective study, 31 patients were identified over a period of 25 years as having sustained traumatic knee dislocations without associated fractures. Three patients had early amputation secondary to vascular complications. Ten popliteal artery disruptions and five peroneal nerve palsies were diagnosed. At the time of follow-up evaluation (average, 40 months), 16 patients were examined. Operatively treated patients (n = 6) tended to have better motion (129 degrees) than nonoperatively treated patients (108 degrees). Varus instability was seen in only two patients treated nonoperatively.

Nineteen knee dislocations in 18 patients (one bilateral) occurred over a period of twelve years. The age range was 17 to 70 years with an average age of 33 years. Three young patients with an isolated popliteal artery occlusion are presented, two with severe claudication and the third with a critical ischaemic foot. The work-up of these patients leads to certain aetiologic possibilities: microtrauma, smoking and contraceptive pills.
