BACKGROUND: Morel-Lavallée syndrome, which appears after tangential trauma of highly vascularised tissues, is characterized by closed internal degloving injuries resulting in subcutaneous fluid collection. Management of severe limb trauma continues to challenge surgeons. Suitable treatment should be individualised for each patient, taking into consideration not only the wound extremity but also the associated injuries, age and socioeconomic status of the patient with the goal to recover function and to improve patient quality of life. The aim of this report is to present a severe degloving multiplane lower limb injury case in which a conservative treatment of the wound was performed with negative pressure therapy and dermal substitute, avoiding amputation and restoring limb function.

BACKGROUND: Clostridium spp. are saprophytic Gram-positive bacteria found in soil and capable of generating endospores. Spore germination occurs when environmental conditions are favorable. Clostridium spp. can cause infections of compound fractures and deep wounds contaminated from soil micro-organisms.

This study was made to investigate the clinical effects of repairing lower limb defects with an improved retrograde sural nerve flap. From November 1996 to September 2010, a total of 56 patients with soft-tissue defects of the lower limb received improved retrograde sural neurocutaneous flap repair. There were 21 women and 35 men ranging in age from 12-73 years (average age 45.9). Eight patients had dorsal foot defects, five patients had foot bottom defects, four patients had heel defects, six patients had defects around the ankle, and 15 patients had defects below the lower third of the leg.

BACKGROUND: While multiple studies have examined amputations that have occurred during the current conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, none of these studies have provided an overarching characterization of all of these injuries.
METHODS: A retrospective study of all major extremity amputations sustained by US Service Members from January 2001 through July 30, 2011, was performed. OBJECTIVES: Shortening after intertrochanteric hip fractures with sliding constructs is an increasingly recognized problem by the orthopaedic community. It often results in a limb length discrepancy causing maladaptation of the abductor lever arm. Functional limitations can also result from altered hip biomechanics and negatively influence patient outcomes. We hypothesized that with trochanteric entry nailing, calcar reduction, and intraoperative compression, a near-normal restoration of gait parameters and satisfactory outcomes can be achieved.

The aim of this study was to monitor injury incidence and pattern in Norwegian male professional football over six consecutive seasons and compare the risk of injury between the preseason and competitive season. All time loss injuries were recorded by the medical staff of each club. In total, 2365 injuries were recorded.
