[Acropathia ulcero-mutilans non familiaris (Bureau-Barrière). (Case report with special reference to the x-ray findings) (author's transl)].

Four cases of non-familiar acropathia ulcero-mutilans (Bureau-Barriere) are described. In all cases there was a history of alcoholism, abnormal liver function, painless foot ulcers and polyneuritis. The radiological changes were confined to the lower extremities. There were osteolytic changes in the metatarsal heads and the bases of the proximal phalanges, particularly of the great toes; in addition, there was general demineralisation of the bones of the feet. One case was remarkable in that the tarsal bones and the proximal protions of the metatarsals were also involved. A variety of bone def

Skeletal lesions in the broiler, with special reference to dyschondroplasia (osteochondrosis). Pathology, frequency and clinical significance in two strains of birds on high and low energy feed.

The material consisted of 2,950 broilers of the variety Hybro Compact of two lines. An equal number of birds of both lines were given either a high energy feed (H) or a low energy feed (L), containing all nutrients known to be required by broilers. During the first 3 weeks, H and L starter feeds were given and thereafter H and L finishing feeds. At 21, 35, and 45 days of age, the birds were weighed in groups, and feed conversion calculated. At 21 days of age, the frequency of crooked toes and swollen hocks was registered. Birds were taken from each group for necropsy at regular intervals. Both

Snowblower injuries.

A study was made over two winters in Chittenden County, Vermont of 15 persons injured by snowblowers and 17 neighbors who owned such machines but had not been injured. Twelve of the 15 injuries involved amputation, fracture, or laceration of fingers from contact with an impeller blade in inadequately guarded chutes. Injured persons commonly had less experience (but not significantly so) with their machines than did uninjured owners, but both reported extensive safety-related and other problems with their machines. Better design standards could probably avoid such problems. Safety education and

Lisfranc's tarsometatarsal fracture-dislocation.

Lisfranc's fracture-dislocation is an injury at the tarsometatarsal joints. Usually the metatarsals dislocate dorsally and laterally. These frectures can be subtle, and a knowledge of the normal relationships is essential. Review of foot radiographs indicated that the most constant normal relationship of the tarsometatarsal joints is the alignment of the second tarsometatarsal joint, which, fortunately, is involved in most Lisfranc's dislocations. There is more variation in normal alignment of the other tarsometatarsal joints, but gross abnormalities are detectable, and the presence of associa

Lag screw fixation of avulsion fractures of the second phalanx in the horse.

Avulsion fractures of the posteromedial eminence of the 2nd phalanx were repaired, using an ASIF cortex screw in 3 reining Quarter Horses. Within 9 and 11 months, respectively, 2 horses were sound and back in competition as reining horses. The other horse was sound for pleasure class showing at 7 months after surgery.
