Epidemiology of Musculoskeletal Injuries in Frisbee Athletes and Associated Risk Factors: World Beach Ultimate Championship.

Frisbee has gained increasing popularity and is characterized by high-intensity running, rapid changes in direction, jumping, and indirect physical contact, exposing players to a risk of injury. This study aimed to determine the epidemiology of musculoskeletal injuries in frisbee athletes who participated in the World Beach Ultimate Championship in Portugal, and the risk factors associated with these injuries. The sample included 484 athletes aged 18-64 years, of whom 275 (56.8%) were male. Data was collected using a digital questionnaire. Across their frisbee practice, 391 (80.8%) athletes re

Lower Extremity Injuries in Adult Pickleball Players: A Systematic Review of Injury Types, Mechanisms, and Risk Factors.

Pickleball is one of the fastest-growing sports in the United States, particularly among adults aged 50 and older. As participation has increased, so have reports of musculoskeletal injuries, with the lower extremity frequently identified as the most commonly affected region. Despite growing clinical awareness, no systematic review has comprehensively examined the types, mechanisms, and risk factors of lower extremity injuries among adult pickleball players. A systematic review was conducted following Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. PubMe

Functional recovery effects of growth factor-stimulated mesenchymal stromal cells in a Wistar rat model of ankle sprain injury.

BACKGROUND: Ankle sprain is among the most frequent musculoskeletal injuries affecting the anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL). Current management emphasizes symptom relief rather than regeneration, often resulting in prolonged recovery and recurrent instability. Wharton's Jelly-derived mesenchymal stromal cells (WJ-MSCs) have emerged as promising candidates for ligament repair, particularly when primed with growth factors such as insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) and connective tissue growth factor (CTGF). METHODS: A two-phase study was conducted. In vitro, WJ-MSCs were stimulated with I

Dynamic balance status and ankle mobility in adolescent basketball players with a history of multiple lateral ankle sprains.

BACKGROUND: Lateral ankle sprains (LAS) are prevalent among adolescent athletes and can lead to persistent sensorimotor impairment. Although altered postural control is a known consequence, the impact of recurrent LAS on time-resolved landing dynamics, while accounting for maturational and anthropometric confounding factors, remains unclear in adolescent athletes. METHODS: We categorized 238 ankles from 156 adolescent basketball players into three LAS history groups: control, one-time, and multiple-time. Non-weight-bearing (non-WB) and weight-bearing (WB) ankle range of motion (RoM) were meas

Preventive efficiency of neuromuscular training in reducing lower limb injuries among youth soccer athletes: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

UNLABELLED: Lower-limb injuries are common in youth soccer. Neuromuscular training (NMT) warm-ups are used, but the preventive effects across injury types in young players are unclear. This review quantified NMT effectiveness for lower-limb injury prevention in 8-18-year-old soccer players. A PRISMA-guided systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials was conducted. Four databases were searched up to October 2025 using keywords including soccer/football, neuromuscular training, balance, proprioception, plyometrics, injury prevention, ACL, ankle sprain, and hamstring strai

Coaches' perceptions of injuries in women's football.

Despite the growth of women's football, limited research has examined injury profiles and at a non-elite level. This study aimed to evaluate coaches' perceptions of injuries and risk factors in senior non-elite women's football within the United Kingdom. A quantitative, cross-sectional, online survey was completed by 21 qualified coaches which examined perceived injury types, locations, mechanisms, risk factors, and the influence of the menstrual cycle. Data were analysed using frequency and descriptive statistics. Coaches perceived muscle strains/tears (81%) and ligament sprains/tears (67%) a

Altered kinematics and muscle activities during half squats in people with ankle sprain history.

Copers are individuals with a history of ankle sprain who return to daily and sports activities without recurrent instability. However, it is unclear whether copers can use movement strategies comparable to those of healthy individuals without a history of ankle sprain. Understanding these movement strategies may be important for designing effective training programs and avoiding unintended biomechanical adaptations. Therefore, we aimed to compare the kinematics and muscular activities of the lower limbs during half squats and gait between copers and healthy controls. Ten copers (3 females) an

Peroneal Reaction-Time Demonstrates a Greater Influence Than Peroneal Muscle Strength on Lateral Ankle Ligament Strain in People With Chronic Ankle Instability.

BACKGROUND: Lateral ankle sprains often damage the anterior talofibular (ATFL) and calcaneofibular (CFL) ligaments. Delayed peroneal muscle reaction time (reaction-time) and reduced peroneal muscle strength (strength) may increase the risk of recurrent sprains. Relationships between neuromuscular impairments and ligament strains remain unclear due to challenges in directly measuring ligament strains under dynamic conditions. HYPOTHESIS: Reaction-time and strength are correlated significantly with ATFL and CFL strains in people with and without chronic ankle instability (CAI). STUDY DESIGN: C

CFL rupture is a negative prognostic factor for return to sport after endoscopic Broström-Gould.

PURPOSE: Chronic lateral ankle instability (CLAI) often follows repeated sprains and may require surgery when conservative treatment fails. While the anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL) is most commonly injured, the impact of a concomitant calcaneofibular ligament (CFL) rupture on surgical outcomes remains unclear. The purpose of this study is to compare 5-year clinical and functional results of All Inside Endoscopic Broström-Gould (BG) according to the presence or absence of a CFL rupture. METHODS: Patients who underwent All Inside Endoscopic BG for ATFL rupture between January 2018 and Dec

Achilles Allograft Reconstruction for Ankle Multiligament Injuries in a Patient Presenting With Rotational Ankle Instability: A Surgical Technique.

The ankle comprises two main ligamentous complexes: the medial and lateral complex. In cases of chronic ankle instability following a sprain involving both complexes, rotational ankle instability can develop. We introduce a 25-year-old male with rotational ankle instability who reported having 20 episodes of "giving away" over the 6 months following an ankle sprain. Due to persistent instability, the patient was deemed a candidate for surgical reconstruction. An Achilles tendon allograft was utilized to reconstruct four ligaments-two from the lateral complex (the anterior talofibular ligament
