Gender- and age-specific patterns of tennis-related injuries in pediatric populations: Insights from emergency room data (2014-2023).

INTRODUCTION: Pediatric tennis participation has grown steadily, yet limited research exists on sex- and age-based injury differences in this population. Understanding these patterns can inform tailored injury prevention efforts. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We queried the National Electronic Injury Surveillance System (NEISS) for tennis-related emergency department (ED) visits in patients under 18 years old from 2014 to 2023. Injuries were analyzed by sex, age group, injury type, and body region. National estimates (NEs) were calculated using NEISS sample weights. Statistical comparisons were perf

Ankle joint contact forces and muscle contributions during walking differentiate chronic ankle instability from copers and uninjured controls.

BACKGROUND: Chronic ankle instability (CAI) is associated with abnormal joint loading and an increased risk of early joint degeneration, yet the underlying biomechanical mechanisms remain unclear. It is unknown whether altered ankle loading reflects chronic effects of repeated ankle sprains rather than a single traumatic event, and how muscle forces contribute to these differences. METHODS: Ankle joint contact forces (JCF) and muscle contributions during walking were compared among 21 uninjured controls, 21 copers (individuals with a prior ankle sprain but no persistent symptoms), and 21 indi

Delayed reaction time and altered spatial activation of Fibularis longus in chronic ankle instability: A high-density surface electromyography study.

Chronic ankle instability (CAI) is characterized by recurrent episodes of sprain and delayed activation of the fibularis longus, which compromises dynamic ankle stabilization. However, whether delays in muscle reaction time occur uniformly across its neuromuscular compartments or follow a region-specific pattern remains unclear. This study aimed to compare global reaction time and determine whether this temporal response differed between the anterior and posterior regions, while also characterizing the spatial distribution of fibularis longus activation during sudden ankle inversion in individ

A Rat Model of Lateral Ankle Sprain Induced by Manual Manipulation, with Controlled Force and Angle: An Experimental Study.

Closed modeling methods for lateral ankle sprain (ALAS) avoid surgical drawbacks but lack standardization due to reliance on the operator's subjective force, leading to variable outcomes. This study aimed to refine a closed ALAS rat model by quantifying manipulation parameters and establishing optimal ranges for different injury grades. Ninety rats were randomly assigned to groups receiving manual ankle inversion under different combinations of force (0-8 N or 8-16 N) and plantar flexion angle (100°-130° or 130°-160°), with control groups. A flexible thin-film pressure sensor and a goniometer
