BACKGROUND: This video article describes the use of bone-anchored prostheses for patients with transtibial amputations, most often resulting from trauma, infection, or dysvascular disease. Large studies have shown that about half of all patients with a socket-suspended artificial limb experience limited mobility and limited prosthesis use because of socket-related problems. These problems occur at the socket-residual limb interface as a result of a painful and unstable connection, leading to an asymmetrical gait and subsequent pelvic and back pain. In almost all of these cases, a bone-anchored

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: RA is characterized by the presence of autoantibodies among which rheumatoid factors (RFs) and antimodified protein antibodies (AMPA) are serological hallmarks of the disease. In recent years, several novel insights into the biology, immunogenetics and clinical relevance of these autoantibodies have been obtained, which deserve to be discussed in more detail.
RECENT FINDINGS: RFs from RA patients seem to target distinct epitopes which appear to be quite specific for RA. Determination of immunoglobulin A (IgA) isotypes of RF and anticitrullinated protein antibodies (ACPA) ma

Raynaud's phenomenon (RP) is a vasospastic disorder that affects the small blood vessels in the extremities such as the hands, feet, fingers or toes. It is a debilitating condition that can severely impact the patient's quality of life. Botulinum toxin (BTX) has been examined as a treatment option for RP, but its effect has been inconclusive. A systematic review has been conducted to determine the current evidence of BTX as a treatment for RP secondary to scleroderma. Major clinical databases Medline, Embase (via Ovid), the Cochrane Central Library, ClinicalTrials.gov, EU Clinical Trials Regis

INTRODUCTION: Syndromic hearing loss (SHL) is characterized by distinctive clinical phenotypes as well as genetic and phenotypic heterogeneity. More than 400 species of SHL have been described, the majority of which are autosomal dominant.
METHODS: 11 forms of SHL were obtained from 14 unrelated families with probands ranging in age from 5 to 78 months. The results of whole exome sequencing(WES), audiological characteristics, middle and inner ear radiological findings, and additional clinical phenotype characteristics were retrospectively analyzed.
RESULTS: Fourteen people with SHL were foun

INTRODUCTION: First Ray Instability (FRI) and especially hypermobility leads to the collapse of the medial longitudinal arch's structural framework, which reduces the foot's ability to become a rigid lever for propulsion, resulting in progressive foot deformities. Early detection of FRI with prompt intervention helps prevent degenerative foot deformities. Various manual, device-based and radiographic diagnostic tests for FRI quantification have been described in the literature. We aim to conduct an up-to-date, comprehensive, systematic review of the literature reporting on diagnostic tests to

Hook-nail deformity is frequently seen after a fingertip amputation, whether or not flap reconstruction has been done. It is more frequent if the bony support is missing. The deformity results in esthetic and functional impairment which can lead to complete finger amputation. Correction is surgical, but is difficult and surgical series are small. Soft-tissue flap augmentation is simple, but does not add a bony support. Bone augmentation using local flaps is limited by the small size of the distal phalanx remnant. Toe transfer is more logical but, as it is a highly demanding technique, only a f

Introduction: It has long been accepted that trauma is one of the most important and frequent predisposing factors for onychomycoses. However, the role of direct trauma in the pathogenesis of fungal nail infections has only recently been elucidated in a series of 32 cases of post-traumatic single-digit onychomycosis. The importance of repeated trauma due to foot and toe abnormalities was rarely investigated. Aimof the study: This is a multicenter single-author observational study over a period of 6 years performed at specialized nail clinics in three countries. All patient photographs taken by

OBJECTIVES: Spondyloarthritis (SpA) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA) are hallmarked by immune cell infiltration in synovial joints. Although, in general, different sites are affected, misclassification or delayed diagnosis due to overlapping clinical manifestations is not uncommon. Here, we investigated the diagnostic potential of mass cytometry (MC) in early peripheral SpA (pSpA) and RA patients in a small pilot study.
METHODS: Peripheral blood and synovial fluid mononuclear cells (PBMC and SFMC) of 4 pSpA, 7 RA, and 1 undifferentiated arthritis (UA) patient(s) were evaluated using a 37-marker

INTRODUCTION: Traumatic fingertip amputation is the most common type of upper extremity injuries. The V-Y advancement flap is a reliable method for reconstructing fingertip defects, but it is associated with complications such as hook-nail deformity and suture site ischemia. Here, we describe our modifications to V-Y advancement flap technique, termed as "V advancement eversion flap" and review the outcomes of this procedure in 21 patients with fingertip amputation.
METHODS: This was a retrospective review of 21 consecutive patients with fingertip injury who were treated surgically using the

De novo germline variants of the SRY-related HMG-box 11 gene (SOX11) have been reported to cause Coffin-Siris syndrome-9 (CSS-9), a rare congenital disorder associated with multiple organ malformations, including ear anomalies. Previous clinical and animal studies have found that intragenic pathogenic variant or haploinsufficiency in the SOX11 gene could cause inner ear malformation, but no studies to date have documented the external ear malformation caused by SOX11 deficiency. Here, we reported a Chinese male with unilateral microtia and bilateral sensorineural deafness who showed CSS-like m

BACKGROUND: Reverse homodigital artery island flap (RHDI) has been reported to have some postoperative complications. Cross-finger reverse digital artery island flap (CRDI), which is harvested from an adjacent intact finger, has been used to decrease these complications. This study aimed to provide a review of the CRDI procedure and compare the clinical outcomes of CRDI with those of RHDI.
METHODS: RHDI has been performed for fingertip amputations with deficit of 1.5-2.5 cm before 2018, and CRDI has been performed since 2018. We assessed the functional and aesthetic outcomes, including finger

INTRODUCTION: The toes are the distal extension of the foot increasing its weight-bearing area and the security of the stance. The nails are the acral part of the toes and are so intimately linked with the distal interphalangeal joint, its ligaments, and tendons that they were also called musculoskeletal appendages. The big toe is of particular importance for gait and stance. Anatomic alterations of the foot and toe lead to pathological changes of the nails, both directly as well as indirectly.
METHODS: The author evaluated the clinical photographs of 1,663 patients examined for toenail condi

BACKGROUND: Individuals with serum antibodies to citrullinated protein antigens (ACPA), rheumatoid factor, and symptoms, such as inflammatory joint pain, are at high risk of developing rheumatoid arthritis. In the arthritis prevention in the pre-clinical phase of rheumatoid arthritis with abatacept (APIPPRA) trial, we aimed to evaluate the feasibility, efficacy, and acceptability of treating high risk individuals with the T-cell co-stimulation modulator abatacept.
METHODS: The APIPPRA study was a randomised, double-blind, multicentre, parallel, placebo-controlled, phase 2b clinical trial done

OBJECTIVES: To investigate the hypotheses that in patients with SSc, the temperature gradient between the dorsum of the foot and toes (distal-dorsal difference [DDD]) is 'more negative' (toes cooler) than in healthy controls, is greatest along the first (great) toe and that the severities of thermographic abnormalities in the feet and hands are correlated.
METHODS: Thermographic images of the dorsum of each hand and foot were captured using a thermal camera attached to an iPhone in 40 patients with SSc and 20 healthy controls. DDDs along the fingers (index, middle, ring and little) and toes (

Toe deformities are often correct with a simple proximal interphalangeal joint fusion whatever if the joint is mobile or rigid. Percutaneous technique allows a different approach of the deformity. Fusion is no more the only solution. This article shows the different procedure that can be done percutaneously. Like all technique, it needs a specific training.

Tenosynovitis with psammomatous calcifications (TPC) is a rare, benign condition currently regarded as a pseudotumor possibly related to repetitive use and/or trauma with a predilection for females at acral sites. Thirty-five cases have been reported, with the largest series comprising 23 patients; yet, TPC remains poorly recognized by pathologists and clinicians alike. We report a series of eighteen additional cases along with radiology and clinical follow-up. Our cohort demonstrated a strong female sex predilection (14 females and 4 males), with ages ranging from 12 to 71 years (mean 50 year

Transplant renal artery stenosis is the most common vascular complication that occurs following kidney transplantation and can lead to graft dysfunction and even its loss. The present report describes A patient with endstage renal disease who underwent living related renal transplantation. He had oliguria and creatinine rise in the post-operative course but all doppler ultrasonography (DUS) during the 2 months post-operation for the renal graft showed a normal mean resistive index in the graft renal artery. Hemodialysis treatment started and continued for 4.5 months. On post-operative day 137,

INTRODUCTION: Lower extremity (LE) reconstruction in the elderly population presents a multifaceted challenge, primarily due to age-related degenerative changes, comorbidities, and functional decline. Elderly individuals often encounter conditions such as osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, and cardiovascular and peripheral artery disease (PAD), which can severely compromise the structural integrity and function of the lower limbs. As such, we aim to assess postoperative complications and functional recovery following LE reconstruction in elderly patients.
METHODS: Patients ≥ 18 years who underwent
