Penetrative Laryngeal Cartilage Fracture: A Case Report.

Laryngeal fractures are rare but potentially life-threatening. Because the larynx plays a central role in airway patency, phonation, and airway protection, disruption of its structural integrity can result in severe morbidity. Early diagnosis is critical; however, due to the rarity of this injury and the wide spectrum of clinical presentation, laryngeal trauma is frequently underrecognized. When identified, management must prioritize airway stabilization, followed by anatomic reconstruction to optimize long-term voice and swallow outcomes. Laryngeal fractures from penetrating trauma demand rap

Forensic Analysis of Decapitation in an Agricultural Worker: A Case Report on Farm Tractor-Related Fatality.

The agricultural sector relies heavily on farm workers who operate tractors and other associated heavy machinery, mostly attached to the vehicle itself. With that in mind, they are at high risk of occupational and road traffic-related fatalities. Decapitation resulting from these accidents is an exceptionally rare outcome. A 61-year-old male was found decapitated on a farm field he was working at, next to a running farm tractor. The body was delivered with a decapitated head, of which the spinal cord was striking through. Also, the left earlobe was completely amputated. On the upper part of th

The Experiences and Perceptions of Organizational Support Among Chinese Nurses Following Work-Related Musculoskeletal Disorders: A Qualitative Descriptive Study.

BACKGROUND: Work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs) are highly prevalent among nurses in China and can affect nurses' health, work ability, professional identity, and retention. Although Organizational Support Theory suggests that perceived organizational support shapes employees' post-injury attitudes and behaviours, little qualitative evidence explains how Chinese nurses interpret organizational responses after WMSDs, especially in the context of high clinical workloads and staffing pressure. OBJECTIVE(S): To explore and describe the experiences and perceptions of organizational supp

Sleep and Sugar: Deciphering the 2003-2023 Research Landscape on Sleep Disorders and Diabetes Mellitus via Bibliometric Study.

Radiation therapy is a crucial adjunct treatment for head and neck tumors, as well as primary or metastatic brain tumors. Radiation-induced brain injury is one of the most severe complications, postirradiation, in patients with head and neck tumors, and significantly impacts their quality of life. Currently, there are no effective treatments for radiation-induced brain injury, making the study of radiation-induced molecular mechanisms and the identification of early damage biomarkers critical for the early diagnosis and treatment of such injuries. In this study, twelve male C57 mice aged 6-8 w

Prognostic implications of alternative splicing events and key splicing factors in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma.

The incidence of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) remains high, accompanied by low 5-year survival rates. Identifying prognostic factors is essential for advancing personalized treatment approaches. Increasing evidence implicates aberrant alternative splicing (AS) plays a key role in tumor progression. Utilizing data from TCGA and TCGA SpliceSeq, prognosis-associated AS events were identified through Cox regression analysis. A prognostic risk model was developed via multivariate Cox and LASSO regression, with validation conducted using Kaplan-Meier survival analysis and ROC curve

Effect of Autologous Platelet-Rich Plasma on Thyroidectomy Scars: A Prospective Interventional Study in a Tertiary Care Hospital in India.

Introduction Thyroid disorders are highly prevalent in India, and thyroidectomy is a frequently performed surgical procedure to manage these conditions. While conventional thyroidectomy is effective, it often results in visible neck scars, leading to patient dissatisfaction and psychosocial concerns. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP), rich in growth factors and adhesion molecules, has shown promise in enhancing wound healing and modulating scar formation. However, its efficacy in improving thyroidectomy scars remains underexplored, particularly in the Indian context. Methods A prospective, randomized

Use of Endo GIA™ With Tri-staple™ and Local Muscle Flaps in Neopharyngeal Reconstruction Following Salvage Total Laryngectomy.

Salvage total laryngectomy (STLx) is associated with higher complication rates than primary procedures, particularly in patients with a history of radiation therapy, where delayed wound healing and pharyngocutaneous fistula remain major challenges. Commonly recommended approaches, such as pedicled or free tissue flaps, may reduce complications but often prolong operative time, enlarge the surgical field, and add morbidity. In this technical report, we describe a neopharyngeal reconstruction technique using Endo GIA™ with Tri-Staple™ Technology (Covidien, North Haven, Connecticut), reinforced w

On-Field Management of Athletic Head and Neck Injuries: Spinal Motion Restriction, Equipment Removal, Patient Transfer, and Spine Boarding Techniques.

BACKGROUND: Although rare, athletic head and cervical spine injuries can be devastating. All health care professionals involved in the on-field care of athletes with these injuries should be aware of updated national guidelines as well as individual institutional practices regarding head and neck immobilization after on-field injuries. Appropriate prehospital management-including evaluation, equipment removal, spine board immobilization, and patient transfer-can mitigate further risk for these injured athletes. INDICATIONS: The goal of spinal-motion restriction is to reduce spinal instability

Frontline sigvotatug vedotin plus pembrolizumab vs pembrolizumab for non-small cell lung cancer with PD-L1 tumor proportion score ≥50%: phase III study design.

Integrin beta-6 (IB6) is a tumor-associated membrane protein involved in many cellular processes, including wound healing and tissue remodeling. While IB6 expression is constitutively low in healthy tissues, high IB6 expression in numerous cancers, including non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), is associated with poor outcomes. In a phase I study, the novel IB6-directed vedotin-based antibody-drug conjugate sigvotatug vedotin (SV) showed manageable safety and encouraging efficacy as a monotherapy and in combination with pembrolizumab in patients with advanced solid tumors, including NSCLC. Changes in the blink reflex after a sport-related concussion: Test-retest reliability of a blink reflexometer in high school athletes.

INTRODUCTION: Sport-related concussion (SRC) is a traumatic brain injury affecting approximately 20 % of high school athletes annually. Recent investigations propose the blink reflex as a potential diagnostic measure for SRC, with studies showing significant changes in the reflex post-concussion. The current study aims to assess the baseline test-retest reliability of the EyeStat device, a handheld blink reflexometer, in a cohort of healthy high school athletes. METHODS: A prospective cohort study of healthy youth athletes at a local high school was conducted. The EyeStat device, an FDA-appro

The "Belt and Suspenders" Repair Approach to Intraoperative Sagittal Sinus Injury During Cranial Vault Surgery.

This case report detailed a successful surgical repair of a superior sagittal sinus (SSS) injury during a 16-month-old girl's craniosynostosis surgery. The patient presented with symptoms of increased intracranial pressure including irritability, stumbling, and sleep disturbances, stemming from metopic craniosynostosis. During the fronto-orbital advancement procedure, an iatrogenic SSS injury was sustained at the anterior fontanel. The surgical team used an innovative "belt and suspenders" repair technique. This approach involved immediate bleeding control with finger pressure, followed by Gel

fMRI Activation in Sensorimotor Regions at 6 Weeks After Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction.

BACKGROUND: Brain activity during knee movements is altered throughout the sensorimotor network after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR). Patients at 2 to 5 years after surgery appear to require greater neural activity to perform basic knee movement patterns, but it is unclear if brain activity differences within sensorimotor regions are present early after surgery. It is also unknown whether uninvolved knee movements elicit similar or unique activity compared with involved knee movements. PURPOSE: To examine brain activity in sensorimotor regions during involved and uninvolved

A Two-Year Prospective Study of the Mechanisms and Patterns of Limb Injury in Multiply Injured Patients at UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital, Osogbo, Nigeria.

BACKGROUND: Multiple injured patients are patients who sustained injury to more than one system in the body, while a polytraumatized patient is the one who sustained injury to two or more regions of a system in the body. Better patient outcomes and effective management depend on an understanding of the patterns and characteristics of limb injuries in the multiply injured individuals. This is especially important in places with little resources, like Southwestern Nigeria, where trauma is common and it's important to make the best use of the few available medical resources. Therefore, the aim of

Unusual Brachial Plexus Injury Caused by a Personal Watercraft Fall.

Brachial plexus injuries after personal watercraft accidents have been rarely reported. We present a 38-year-old female who was riding a personal watercraft when she was struck by an ocean wave and ejected backwards. The motor exam demonstrated bilateral upper extremity weakness. Brachial plexus MRI revealed left C4-C5 and C5-C6 nerve root sleeve tears, with possible similar contralateral injuries. The patient was observed for two days without clinical improvement and was sent home with an appointment to the peripheral nerve clinic and evaluation with a physiatrist. She completed six weeks of
