An anatomico-morphometric analysis of proximal femur.

The proximal femur is an important area of interest as it is involved in the articulation of the hip joint and it contributes to the mechanics of locomotion and the weight bearing capacity of the femur. Pathologies like osteoporosis and fractures are common in this site, and surgical interventions like hip arthroplasty and internal fixtures with implants rely on knowledge about the anatomy of the proximal femur to ensure effective treatment. Hence, a greater understanding of these variations will be helpful in constructing better fitted prosthesis. In this study, six morphometric parameters of

Fat embolism syndrome caused by fracture or liposuction: a retrospective case series of nine patients.

BACKGROUND: Fat embolism syndrome (FES) is a rare and potentially fatal complication commonly observed after liposuction or fractures. Patients with FES often have an acute onset and a rapid course of disease. However, there is a paucity of research summarizing the clinical features of FES caused by simultaneous fracture or liposuction. METHODS: A comprehensive analysis was conducted to enhance understanding of patients with FES associated with either fractures or liposuction procedures. RESULTS: Nine patients who were diagnosed with FES were included in our study, of whom two were male. Six

A proposal for computed tomography-based algorithm for the management of radial head and neck fractures: the Proximal and Articular Radial fractures Management (PARMa) classification.

BACKGROUND: Owing to the great variety of fracture patterns and limitations of the standard radiographic investigation, all the already available classification systems for radial head and neck fractures (RHNFs) are limited by a poor-to-moderate degree of intraobserver and interobserver reliability. Although computed tomography (CT) is being increasingly used to better understand the fracture characteristics, a CT-based classification system of RHNFs is still lacking. Therefore, in this agreement study, we aimed to propose a classification system based on two-dimensional and three-dimensional

Efficacy of Three-Dimensional Printing in the Management of Frontal Bone Trauma.

Objectives  Craniomaxillofacial (CMF) trauma surgery is difficult because of its unique architecture and vast range of injuries in the head and neck area. This study sought to determine the potential of employing preoperative three-dimensional (3D)-printed models to improve frontal fracture healing outcomes. Methods  This prospective cohort clinical trial involved 20 patients who were surgically fitted and had a frontal bone fracture, as evidenced by computed tomography. The patients were separated into two groups: Group A: patients with frontal bone trauma reduced using 3D printing; and Group

Factors Associated With Head and Neck Polytrauma Presentation and Admissions at Emergency Departments of Varying Sizes.

Timely diagnosis of acute head and neck polytrauma presenting to emergency departments (EDs) optimizes outcomes. Since ED capacity influences triage and admission, the authors utilized the National Electronic Injury Surveillance System database to understand how ED size and trauma characteristics affect head and neck polytrauma presentation and admissions. Demographics and injury characteristics from the National Electronic Injury Surveillance System database from 2018 to 2021 were analyzed to delineate factors contributing to polytrauma presence and admission through multivariable logistic re

African primary research publications in plastic surgery: A PRISMA-S-compliant systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Plastic surgery (PS) in Africa is a relatively young surgery specialty, and the number of available plastic surgeons on average is one or two surgeons per country in many African low-income countries. This systematic review aims to geographically map the research activities through scientific publications of African PS centres, between February 2012-February 2023. METHODS: We searched four literature databases (Medline, Embase, Google Scholar and African Journal Online) and did a manual search. We included case reports, randomised controlled trials, and clinical, comparative, obse

Aesthetic Approaches to Zygomatic Fracture Management: Achieving Optimal Outcomes With Minimal Scarring.

The zygomaticomaxillary complex is integral to facial aesthetics and is frequently involved in facial fractures. These injuries often necessitate surgical intervention, with open reduction and internal fixation being the standard treatment. This article presents a novel philosophy for managing zygomatic fractures, emphasizing the "Scarless Surgery" technique. The authors' approach prioritizes minimal osteosynthesis material and fixation points while utilizing the least visible surgical access. For isolated zygomatic arch fractures, an intraoral technique is preferred, whereas the frontozygomat
