BACKGROUND Infantile corneal foreign bodies (CFBs) are rare and frequently result in delayed diagnoses and treatment challenges. This report describes a case of a very young infant with a small plastic CFB that was successfully removed. CASE REPORT A 2-month-old boy was observed to have a "small dot" foreign body on his left cornea by his parents. No crying response to the CFB or other symptoms had ever been identified. Slit lamp examination revealed the presence of a small, oval, plastic foreign body in the corneal epithelial layer. This CFB was determined to be an ornament affixed to the dre

A 68-year-old male developed foreign body sensation in both eyes, photophobia and tearing in the right eye approximately 6 weeks after initiating dupilumab for severe atopic dermatitis. The right eye presented a crescent-shaped superficial-stromal ulcer in the peripheral cornea with an undermined edge, which was separated from the limbus of the cornea by a clear zone. The left eye had a pannus at the limbus of the cornea. Corneal scraping, bacterial culture, and fungal culture excluded infections. The patient was administered 0.1% fluorometholone eye drops and recombinant bovine basic fibrobla

BACKGROUND: Fungal keratitis can develop after plant injury or after prolonged glucocorticoid use. Typical manifestations include corneal infiltrates, satellite lesions, plaques, and an immune ring. Some cases exhibit atypical signs, requiring reliance on etiological examination. Notably, fungi previously deemed nonpathogenic to humans can cause keratitis with rare clinical manifestations. This report details the clinical signs and successful treatment outcomes of keratitis caused by Phaeoisaria sp.

We present the case of a 13-month-old girl with Down syndrome who underwent probing to alleviate nasolacrimal duct obstruction (NLDO). During the procedure, a distal portion of the deployed Crawford hook fragmented and became lodged in the right nasopharynx. Traditional intraoperative methods of visualization were unsuccessful; however, extraction of the fragment was achieved by using a nasogastric bridle magnet. This case demonstrates a novel method of metallic foreign body removal, which may be useful when exact location cannot be determined.

Pilomatrixoma is a rare benign tumor originating from hair follicle matrix. It is commonly misdiagnosed clinically. The authors present an unusual case of a Pilomatrixoma in a young adult with epiphora mimicking dacryocystitis. An 18-year-old female presented with right eye tearing and nodular mass (12 mm × 10 mm) localized under the medial canthal tendon, resembling acute dacryocystitis for 2 months. Following 1-week oral antibiotic treatment, nasolacrimal duct obstruction was detected with lacrimal irrigation. On palpation, the mass was nontender, painless, reddish in color, and hard in cons

Ophthalmomyiasis externa is the most common manifestation of Oestrus ovis (sheep nasal botfly) in humans. Several cases have been reported from various regions of India with the first case reported by Elliot in 1910. Here, we report such a case from North India along with the review of literature from India of the last fifteen years. A farmer presented to us with unilateral ocular symptoms of redness, foreign body sensation and severe watering in left eye who was misdiagnosed as acute conjunctivitis elsewhere. On slit lamp examination, multiple translucent larvae were found in his conjunctival

BACKGROUND: Post-COVID-19 Syndrome, marked by systemic immune dysregulation, has been linked to various ocular manifestations, including conjunctivitis, anterior uveitis, and vitritis. Emerging evidence highlights the role of inflammatory mediators, cytokines, and abnormal immune cell activation in post-viral complications, which may contribute to corneal damage. This case report describes immune-related peripheral keratopathy in a patient with Post-COVID-19 Syndrome, emphasizing that it may influence the ocular surface immune microenvironment.

Dry eye disease (DED), also known as keratoconjunctivitis sicca, is a multifactorial ocular disease characterized by tear film insufficiency due to diverse etiologies including aging, incomplete and infrequent blinking, hormonal changes, medications, and systemic diseases. Classified into aqueous-deficient dry eye (ADDE), evaporative dry eye (EDE), and mixed subtypes, DED presents with symptoms such as irritation, stinging, redness, foreign body sensation, sensitivity to light, and blurred or fluctuating vision. While rare, severe cases may lead to vision loss. With its rising global prevalenc

Vernal keratoconjunctivitis (VKC) is a seasonally recurring form of allergic conjunctivitis that leads to bilateral inflammation of the cornea and conjunctiva. Symptoms may include itching, foreign body sensation, discharge, and conjunctival hyperemia. Severe cases may result in corneal complications including erosions, shield ulcers, plaques, microbial keratitis, corneal scarring, limbal stem cell deficiency, and keratoconus. Epidemiological data reveal that it mainly affects children and young adults, with male predominance and a higher prevalence in warmer climates. The etiology is multifac

A young male, a known steroid responder with vernal keratoconjunctivitis, presented with diminished vision, redness and foreign body sensation in his left eye for 20 days. He was on anti-glaucoma medications and tacrolimus 0.03% eye ointment. On examination, greyish-white coarse lesions were observed on his left cornea, along with a few medium to large keratic precipitates (KPs). The corneal scraping demonstrated microsporidial spores, and 2 hourly lubricating eyedrops were initiated. Three days later, the patient remained symptomatic; therefore, a 4 hourly dose of loteprednol 0.5% was initiat

PURPOSE: Adenoviral keratoconjunctivitis is the most common infectious disease in ophthalmology. Its clinical forms include epidemic keratoconjunctivitis (EKC) and pharyngoconjunctival fever (PCF). EKC can be complicated by multiple subepithelial infiltrates (MSI) of the cornea, which affect visual outcomes. As at present, artificial intelligence and machine learning are becoming increasingly important not only in the diagnostic imaging field but also in the clinical data science field, we investigated a predictive model for the development of corneal MSI in adenoviral keratoconjunctivitis.
