Corneal epithelial changes in a patient treated with belantamab mafodotin.

The aim of the study is to report a case of corneal epithelial changes in a patient with refractory multiple myeloma (MM) who was treated with belantamab mafodotin (BM). A 55-year-old man diagnosed with refractory MM was referred to our hospital for treatment with BM, an antibody-drug conjugate targeting B-cell maturation antigen. After 33 days of treatment, the patient experienced a bilateral reduction in visual acuity (VA), along with dry eye symptoms such as itchy eyes and a sensation of having a foreign body. Slit-lamp examination revealed the presence of diffuse microcystic epithelial cha

Penetrating Ocular Fish-Hook Injury.

Penetrating ocular injuries caused by fish hooks, although rare, present unique challenges and significant risks to ocular structures and vision. We report a case of a 36-year-old male who presented with a fish hook embedded in his right eye. Clinical examination revealed a fish hook perforating the cornea, entering at the nasal cornea at 3 o'clock and exiting at the temporal cornea at 7 o'clock. Despite initial attempts to employ the advance-and-cut technique, the unsuccessful utilization of a wire cutter led to a shift in the removal approach. The modified backout method was successfully emp

Delayed-onset pressure-induced interlamellar stromal keratitis (PISK) and interface epithelial ingrowth 10 years after laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis.

PURPOSE: To report a case of pressure-induced interlamellar stromal keratitis (PISK) 10 years after laser assisted in situ keratomileusis (LASIK). OBSERVATIONS: A case of a 36-year-old man who underwent LASIK and presented with PISK 10 years later. Before presenting to our department he consulted elsewhere for red eye, decreased visual acuity, foreign body sensation, and pain on the RE for 1 week. He was then prescribed topical prednisolone six times per day and was lost to follow-up. On examination and after 1 month of continuous use of steroids uncorrected distance visual acuity (UCDV) was

Inert 37-Year-Old Intrastromal Corneal Graphite From Penetrating Ocular Trauma: A Case Report.

Ocular trauma is the most frequent cause of monocular blindness. Ocular surface injury is the commonest among ocular injuries. Corneal abrasion and foreign body are the most common corneal injuries. A 40-year-old dentist with a history of partially penetrating corneal injury due to a pencil presented with and retained graphite bodies in the cornea 37 years after injury. His refraction was +1.0 sphere with no astigmatic error. There was no evidence of any inflammatory reaction. Intrastromal corneal graphite particles can be inert and cause no inflammatory reaction or astigmatic error even decad

A case of panuveitis caused by caterpillar setae.

INTRODUCTION: Panuveitis is a serious inflammatory disease. Setae are fibers produced by many insects and plants. Many case reports have described caterpillar and spider fibers entering the eye. These hairs are covered with tiny barbs that help them enter and migrate into the eye tissue, leading to severe inflammation. Normally, they are buried mainly in the conjunctiva and cornea. However, in the present case, they entered the posterior segment of the eye, which is very rare. CASE DESCRIPTION: A female patient presented with a complaint of repeated foreign body sensation, redness, pain, and

Eye trauma from a cat scratch with retention of the claw in the anterior chamber in a dog.

BACKGROUND: Cat scratches and ocular foreign bodies are frequent reasons for consultation in veterinary ophthalmology. CASE DESCRIPTION: We here present an unusual case combining trauma to the cornea and lens by a cat scratch with retention of the claw in the anterior chamber. Management consisted of the removal of the claw, reconstruction of the cornea, and mechanized ablation of the lens by phacoemulsification with implantation of an artificial lens. CONCLUSION: The progression during the follow-up period was considered satisfactory, with positive responses to visual tests and intraocular

[Explosives-based vole traps-A novel injury pattern in the eye region].

BACKGROUND: A novel method for trapping voles is the use of pistol-like explosive tools loaded with bolt-action ammunition. When triggered the vole is killed by the very high gas pressure created. Accidental releases can result in facial and/or eye injuries. The aim of this work was to describe the injury pattern in the patient and to experimentally verify whether there is a risk of penetrating eye injuries. METHODS: Two emergency patients presented to our eye clinic with eye injuries after unintentional triggering of the explosive trap. Based on the new pattern of injury noted, experiments w

Incidental finding of a retained intracorneal wooden foreign body.

We present a case of an intracorneal wooden foreign body that remained undetected for 15 years following an ocular injury sustained during gardening. The patient presented with stable visual acuity despite the long-standing presence of a wooden splinter embedded in the cornea. Interestingly, Pentacam corneal tomography did not show any abnormalities despite the foreign body piercing through the corneal stroma and endothelium. This case may serve as an opportunity to re-examine the approach to managing chronic and stable intracorneal wooden foreign bodies and explore the implications of continu

Occult intraocular aluminium foreign body causing rhegmatogenous retinal detachment: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Ocular trauma is complex and varied, and some occult intraocular foreign bodies (IOFBs) can lead to uncommon symptoms and signs. We report a case of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (no obvious wound, no pain, no intraocular infection or other symptoms) caused by an occult intraocular aluminium foreign body, which could have been easily missed. CASE PRESENTATION: A 42-year-old male presented to the outpatient department of our hospital complaining of fluttering black dots and decreased vision in his left eye that began 3 months earlier. He was diagnosed with "floaters" at a commu

Recurrence of gigantic overhanging bleb post excision: a case report.

PURPOSE: To report the case of an extremely large overhanging bleb, extending from superior fornix to limbus, in a 57-year-old poorly controlled diabetic, six years after trabeculectomy for an uncontrolled primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) with recurrence, months after complete excision. METHODS: An overhanging bleb is defined as a filtering cicatrix which has been massaged downward over the cornea by eyelid action. It has been linked to anti-metabolite use during glaucoma filtering surgery. Despite being functional, these blebs result in patient discomfort ranging from foreign body sensatio

AVASCULAR OVERHANGING BLEB REDUCTION WITH MODIFIED SUTURELESS TECHNIQUE.

A late postoperative trabeculectomy complication could be the overhanging bleb, especially when antimetabolites are used. It can be associated with hypotony, foreign body sensation, dellen, and visual compromise. We report a case of an avascular overhanging bleb successfully reduced with a modified sutureless technique. Nine years before, our patient had trabeculectomy using mitomycin C. After the surgery, the intraocular pressure was correct, without progression in the visual field, but on slit-lamp examination, a large avascular overhanging bleb was noted. Partial excision was performed with

Large Number of Eyelashes in the Lacrimal Sac Found by Dacryoendoscopy: A Case Report.

Foreign objects sometimes enter the lacrimal sac. Here, we report the case of a patient with many comb-shaped eyelashes in the lacrimal sac and discuss the potential of using dacryoendoscopy to detect and remove foreign bodies from the lacrimal apparatus. A 65-year-old woman with a teary eye underwent dacryoendoscopy. There was no abnormality in the canaliculi. The internal ostium was blocked by a large number of black, comb-shaped eyelashes. Numerous bunched eyelashes covered with small white debris were found in the upper part of the lacrimal sac. No eyelash bundles were present from the low
