BACKGROUND: Ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM) is a noninvasive imaging modality that enables in-vivo visualization of the structures of the anterior segment of the eye. Unlike routine ophthalmic diagnostic ultrasound which uses frequencies of 5-10 MHz, UBM utilizes ultrasound frequencies in the range of 50-100 MHz. The high-frequency probes in UBM allows for higher resolution and better visualization of subsurface ocular structures, even in the presence of anatomic or pathological obscuration. UBM has qualitative as well as quantitative applications in various disorders affecting the anterior seg

The absence of the Meibomian gland is a rare cause of evaporative dry eye disease. A 45year old Lady, a known patient of our clinic whom we have been managing for allergic conjunctivitis for the past 5 years, started complaining of her eyes feeling dry and foreign body sensation 2 years ago. Her ocular surface disease index was 12.5, dry eye symptom score was 7 out of 14. She had no Meibomian orifices on her lower lid margin, but the upper lid orifices were present in both eyes, with normal expression of fluid when expressed. There were 23 and 25 Meibomian orifices opening in the upper lids re

Ocular allergy covers a series of immune-allergic inflammatory diseases of the ocular surface, with different degrees of involvement and severity. These pathologies are caused by a variety of IgE- and non-IgE-mediated immune mechanisms and may involve all parts of the external eye, including the conjunctiva, cornea, eyelids, tear film, and commensal flora. The most frequent is allergic conjunctivitis, a condition with different clinical forms that are classified according to the degree of involvement and the presence or absence of proliferative changes in the palpebral conjunctiva, associated

Acute hydrops refers to sudden corneal edema caused by rupture of Descemet's membrane (DM) - often in progressive keratectasia. It leads to a sudden decrease in visual acuity, pain, and foreign body sensation as well as an increased glare sensation. Acute hydrops usually heals with scarring within months, but complications such as corneal perforation, infectious keratitis, and corneal vascularization may occur. The prevalence in keratoconus patients is 2.6 to 2.8%. Risk factors include keratoconjunctivitis vernalis, atopic dermatitis, high keratometry, male gender, and eye rubbing. Keratoplast

Thygeson's superficial punctate keratitis (TSPK) is a recurrent bilateral corneal epithelial disease. Typically, small, multiple discrete epithelial lesions occur in the central cornea. However, dendritic corneal lesions are rare. Herein, we report a rare case of TSPK in both eyes after a unilateral dendritic corneal lesion. A 42-year-old woman presented with decreased vision and foreign body sensation in her right eye that persisted for 1 month. Her uncorrected visual acuity and best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) were 20/160 in the right eye. Slit-lamp microscopy revealed a dendritic lesion

Ocular foreign bodies may be threat to vision loss. Superficial foreign body present on the conjunctiva or cornea can be easily detected and removed, and may not cause much harm if treated appropriately without delay. Subconjunctival foreign bodies are relatively rare, commonly missed and present as foreign body granuloma, even if they are visible their extent in deeper tissue is difficult to assess. Foreign bodies penetrating the ocular coat can result in partial or full thickness penetration of cornea and sclera with or without involvement of posterior segment. Here we present a case of subc
