Keratitis caused by Nocardia farcinica in a contact lens wearer.

Bacterial keratitis is an infection of the cornea. This kind of infection can progress quickly and if left untreated, it can eventually cause complete blindness. While Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa are most commonly responsible for this type of infection in the United States, Nocardia spp. is rarely encountered. Here we describe an interesting case of Nocardia farcinica keratitis in a 31-year-old male patient having an extended wear of contact lenses. The patient presented at the emergency department with irritation, foreign body sensation, redness, and pain of his left eye.

User-demand fast-curable ocular glues enforced by multilength tunable networks.

Achieving fast and secure wound closure without ocular foreign body sensation is highly desired in ophthalmologic surgery. Sutureless approaches using tissue adhesives are gaining popularity, but their practical use is limited by the difficulty in controlling adhesion time and satisfying safety standards without compromising adhesive performance. Herein, we report user-demand hydrogel-forming ocular glues based on multilength photo-crosslinkable hyaluronic acid (HA), achieving firm tissue adhesion under wet and dynamic conditions and possessing cornea-like optical transparency. The HA-based ph

Transient Receptor Potential Channels: Important Players in Ocular Pain and Dry Eye Disease.

Dry eye disease (DED) is a multifactorial disorder in which the eyes respond to minor stimuli with abnormal sensations, such as dryness, blurring, foreign body sensation, discomfort, irritation, and pain. Corneal pain, as one of DED's main symptoms, has gained recognition due to its increasing prevalence, morbidity, and the resulting social burden. The cornea is the most innervated tissue in the body, and the maintenance of corneal integrity relies on a rich density of nociceptors, such as polymodal nociceptor neurons, cold thermoreceptor neurons, and mechano-nociceptor neurons. Their sensory
