We report a case of vesicocervical fistula following intrauterine device (Lippes loop) erosion following insertion 45 years ago. Vesicocervical fistula was suspected clinically. Ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging confirmed the presence of a foreign body. Biopsy and magnetic resonance imaging were performed to rule out malignancies of the urogenital tract. The fistula was managed by laparotomy, hysterectomy, and bladder flap closure. We report this case because of its rarity.

BACKGROUND: When there are no strings visible during an IUD (intrauterine device) check-up and ultrasound does not show an IUD in the uterine cavity, expulsion is commonly assumed. If the patient has abdominal pain further investigation is advised. This case shows that this policy does not cover every eventuality.

Osseous metaplasia of the endometrium is a rare disorder associated with the presence of bone in the uterine endometrium. Most patients with this condition presenting with infertility do so owing to the presence of a foreign body in the endometrium. We report a case of a 38-year-old woman who presented with secondary infertility due to osseous metaplasia in the endometrial cavity. AIMS: To share surgical management experiences of intra-abdominal intrauterine devices (IUDs) in tertiary center.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: A total of 27 patients were retrospectively analyzed. This retrospective study was conducted between September 1992 and April 2013 at Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology Tepecik Research and Training Hospital, Izmir, Turkey. Abdominal pain is one of the most common complaints in the pediatric ED. Because of the broad range of potential diagnoses, it can pose challenges in diagnosis and therapy in the preadolescent girl. Intrauterine device is the most widely used method of reversible contraception. It may cause various complications including perforation of uterus. The levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system (L-IUS) is widely used in contraception and in the treatment of menorrhagia, dysmenorrhea, adenomyosis, and endometriosis. Intrauterine contraceptive device (IUCD) is relatively safe but still with some serious risks. Uterus perforation is rare and would be fatal. A case of Cu-7 IUCD invading into the sigmoid colon through uterine perforation caused by a pelvic blunt trauma was presented. Our case showed that uterus perforation by an IUCD could induce utero-sigmoid fistula which is likely to be missed. Imaging is required when the patients with IUCD present abdominal pain, particularly with a history of trauma.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the biocompatibility of silk gel for cervical injection.
STUDY DESIGN: Silk gel was injected into the cervix of pregnant rats on day 13 (n = 11) and harvested at day 17. Histology of silk gel was compared with suture controls. Also, human cervical fibroblasts were cultured on silk gel and tissue culture plastic (TCP) in vitro. This case report details the emergency department course of a 34 year-old female who presented with abdominal pain and vaginal bleeding after reportedly falling one week earlier. She was subsequently found to have a drinking straw within her uterus next to an eight week-old live intrauterine pregnancy on ultrasound. This case report and discussion reviews the literature on retained foreign bodies in pregnancy while addressing the added complications of an evasive patient and a difficult consultant with significant intra-specialty disagreement.
