INTRODUCTION: Trauma resulting from acute burns is relatively common and we wished to study the incidence, outcomes and factors related to mortality and hospital length of stay to identify potential areas of prevention and improve the care of burn-injured patients. To do so, we studied a population of adult burn injury patients from a large area of Canada (the Calgary Health Region (CHR) over a 10-year period. Burn data from this population-based sample has never been published and is not currently included in the American Burn Association Repository report.

This study was conducted to identify the epidemiology of face burns in Korean adults caused by flambé drinks in the hope of developing preventive programs. We reviewed the medical records of 25 patients with burns caused by flame drinks that were admitted to the Hallym Burn Centre, Hangang Sacred Heart Hospital, Seoul, Korea, during the 30-month period of July 2002 to December 2004. BACKGROUND: Injuries by airbags are seen more frequently as more vehicles are equipped.
CASE REPORTS: 7 cases of burns by airbags are reported. Most of burns are second degree lesions located on upper extremity and trunk.
DISCUSSION: Lots of components are implicated in airbag deployment. So, three types of burn are described: thermal, chemical and friction. The treatment is simple. But, omission could be potentially dangerous, especially alkali chemical keratitis.
