The safety aspects of radiological methods continue to evolve. In this paper we report on two cases of skin burns in MRI caused by induced electrical current. A second- and a third-degree skin burn occurred during imaging in a 1.5 T system. The electromagnetic radiofrequency field inadvertently led to electrical currents caused by a conducting loop through the extremities and trunk. Skin burns induced by electrical current may occur in extremely rare cases even with standard MR imaging protocols operating within all current safety guidelines by inadvertently forming a closed conducting loop. BACKGROUND: Pyogenic granuloma is a common benign skin tumor. The multiple disseminated form of the disease is relatively rare.
METHODS: We examined three patients who developed giant pyogenic granuloma after burns from boiling milk. The patients were a 1.5-year-old boy, a 5-year-old girl, and a 35-year-old woman, All three patients had second-degree burns over their face and trunk.
RESULTS: In these patients, pyogenic granuloma had developed over the previously burned areas 2-3 weeks after exposure. The general condition of the patients remained good and all lesions involuted spontaneously.

From 1981 to 1990, 297 cases of carcinoma of the thoracic esophagus were resected in our department. Among these cases, 225 cases (84.3%) were reconstructed cervical esophagogastrostomy via the posterior mediastinal route. We investigated the role of mesenteric lymph nodes in postburn systemic spread of intestinal bacteria. Group 1 minipigs (n=8) had a 40% third-degree burn. The relationship of bacterial translocation to gut blood flow and mucosal integrity was studied in pigs. To study the causes of burn injuries and the nature of their medical treatment, we investigated the medical histories of hospitalized patients admitted to the burn center of Taipei City Ho-Ping Hospital from June 6, 1983 to June 6, 1987. The origin and course of the coronary arteries were studied in 1,436 Syrian hamsters belonging to 10 breeding colonies subjected to high endogamous pressure by mating either animals of the same litter or first cousins. The 202 deaths connected with burns in 1976-1986 included 134 in which death occurred during the fire. In 49 cases the face was so badly charred that it was not possible to judge whether hemorrhage had occurred in the eyelids and/or conjuctivae. The method of accelerated plasty with an inguinal flap was used for treatment of 13 patients with electric burns and frostbites of the IV degree.
