Trichoderma induces bacterial wilt resistance through synergistic activation of salicylic acid and ethylene signaling in tomato plants.

Bacterial wilt is one of the most devastating plant diseases affecting economically important crops globally. Several biocontrol agents have been investigated for the control of this disease. Most studies are limited to initial screening or preliminary investigations of disease-suppression efficacy. Investigations into the mechanisms by which the biocontrol agents modulate plant responses are rarely reported. This study investigated the mechanism by which Trichoderma harzianum alters plant hormonal responses. Initially, the roles of two hormones, SA and ET, were confirmed by using SA- and ET-i

Positive Syphilis Serology With Concurrent Disseminated Talaromycosis marneffei in a Patient With HIV: A Case Report.

BACKGROUND Talaromyces marneffei (TM) infection is an opportunistic infection that typically affects individuals with compromised immune systems. TM is an invasive fungal infection associated with high mortality in patients with advanced human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) disease. Syphilis, caused by Treponema pallidum, is a re-emerging infectious disease with diverse clinical manifestations. While primary syphilis often goes unnoticed, secondary syphilis is characterized by systemic symptoms and variable skin lesions, earning it the epithet "the great imitator." In areas where TM is non-endem

Interfacial electronic regulation of Ru-functionalized bimetallic MOF/metal oxide nanozyme for multimodal detection of tetracyclines and d-penicillamine.

Tetracycline antibiotics (TCs) and d-penicillamine (D-PA) belong to typical emerging contaminants of Pharmaceuticals and Personal Care Products (PPCPs). This work constructs an interfacial electronically synergized Ru-functionalized Zr/Ce co-modified UiO-66-NH2/Mn-CeO2 heterostructured nanozyme (RZCMC), where interfacial electronic modulation accelerates reciprocal redox cycling of Mn2+/Mn3+ and Ce3+/Ce4+ metal valence pairs to endow RZCMC with prominent peroxidase (POD)-mimicking catalytic activity as well as dual-emission fluorescence for ultrasensitive quantitative detection of PPCPs. RZCMC

Early life antibiotic-use and risk of childhood type 1 diabetes: a nationwide cohort study utilising data linkage.

Antibiotic use in early life is associated with autoimmune diseases like Type 1 diabetes (T1D), but evidence is inconsistent. We examined associations of prenatal and early-childhood (0-5 years) antibiotic use and T1D in New Zealand, a country with high antibiotic consumption. Using linked data, we identified antibiotic use during pregnancy and the first 5 years for all children born between 2005 and 2010 (n = 315,789), followed until 2021. Associations were assessed using Cox proportional hazard regression, adjusted for parental and perinatal factors. For prenatal exposure, we assessed associ

Lethal and Sublethal Effects of Three Novel Insecticides on Biological Parameters of Pink Bollworm, Pectinophora gossypiella (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae).

Pink bollworm (Pectinophora gossypiella) is a serious pest of cotton that causes huge economic losses in major cotton-growing regions. The development of resistance to transgenic Cry1Ac and Cry2Ab in India has led to long-term reliance on insecticides, thus enables the larvae to experience sublethal effects due to its concealed feeding behavior. This study investigated the impact of sublethal concentrations (LC10 and LC30) of emamectin benzoate, spinetoram, and spinosad on P. gossypiella. The results showed that emamectin benzoate was more toxic to P. gossypiella (LC50-2.12 mgL-1) than spineto

Characterization, pathogenicity and complete genome of Klebsiella aerogenes isolated from diseased Macrobrachium rosenbergii larvae.

Macrobrachium rosenbergii is an economically important freshwater aquaculture species in China. In 2025, severe mortality was observed among postlarvae in a commercial hatchery in Gaoyou, Jiangsu Province. In the present study, a dominant bacterial strain, designated MRW3, was isolated from diseased postlarvae and identified as Klebsiella aerogenes through physiological and biochemical characterization, and molecular identification. Experimental challenge tests revealed that the LD50 of strain MRW3 for M. rosenbergii was 2.1 × 105 CFU/mL at 7 dpi. Histopathological analysis demonstrated that M

Emergence of Macrolide-Resistant Bordetella pertussis, Peru, 2025.

We report the emergence of macrolide-resistant Bordetella pertussis during a pertussis outbreak in Peru. Among 68 cases, 31% carried the A2047G gene mutation, conferring resistance to macrolides. Whole-genome sequencing revealed 2 genetically distinct groups, indicating multiple introductions into Peru. Our findings support strengthening surveillance for macrolide-resistant pertussis to inform control strategies.

Acute respiratory deterioration in rheumatoid arthritis-associated interstitial lung disease associated with pulmonary Mycobacterium abscessus infection: a case report.

Nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) are important pathogens in patients with chronic lung diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis-associated interstitial lung disease (RA-ILD). Although acute exacerbations of ILD associated with NTM infection have been reported sporadically, cases involving pulmonary Mycobacterium abscessus infection remain extremely limited. We describe a fatal case of acute respiratory deterioration in a patient with RA-ILD following pulmonary infection with M. abscessus. A 76-year-old man with longstanding RA-ILD developed pulmonary NTM disease initially caused by Mycobacter

Metagenomic Characterisation of Antibiotic Resistance in Anaerobic Digesters and Their Implications for Environmental Health.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in environmental systems represents an emerging One Health challenge, with anaerobic digesters potentially serving as reservoirs of resistance-associated genetic features. This study analysed four publicly available anaerobic digester shotgun metagenomic datasets (M2, M3, M12 and M17) retrieved from the NCBI Sequence Read Archive to characterise microbial functions, resistance-associated annotations and antibiotic target loci. The datasets were generated using Illumina HiSeq 2000 sequencing and analysed through quality assessment, assembly, functional annotation

Falling short: Inadequate target attainment in guideline-based therapy of nontuberculous mycobacterial disease.

Nontuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) infections are a scourge that affect growing patient populations due to the rise of risk factors associated with these opportunistic pathogens. Cure rates are unacceptably low despite intensive multidrug and multi-year therapy. The issue of poor drug exposure relative to inferior potency of repurposed antibiotics against NTM pathogens is broadly recognized as a major factor underlying dismal success rates. Yet, a quantitative and systematic evaluation of probabilities of pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic (PK-PD) target attainment (PTA) is lacking. Here, we leve
