The coordination environment of Co center sites has a crucial influence on the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) performance of Co-based materials. However, the structure-performance relationship of Co-based OER electrocatalysts still remains unclear. Herein, cobalt phosphate with an unsaturated coordination structure was successfully prepared by partial removal of crystal water from Co3(PO4)2·8H2O while other features including chemical composition and crystal structure remain unchanged. The tetrahedrally coordinated cobalt phosphate obtained after electrochemical activation exhibits markedly s

Single-atom catalysts have emerged as highly effective alternatives to conventional metal catalysts due to their uniform active sites and superior catalytic performance. Stabilizing single zinc atoms on nitrogen-doped mesoporous carbon (NMC) enhances their stability, selectivity, electrical conductivity, and compatibility with green chemistry principles. In this study, a Zn@NMC catalyst was synthesized via solvent evaporation-induced self-assembly, followed by thermal polymerization and pyrolysis, and characterized by 1H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller, thermogravimetr

Soils are Earth's largest carbon reservoir, yet microbial mechanisms controlling decomposition, and their warming response, remain poorly resolved, especially in subsoils. Using genome-resolved proteogenomics within a replicated whole-soil warming experiment (0-90 cm, +4 °C, 7.5 years) we map microbial traits, their depth stratification, and warming responses. Depth is the dominant driver of microbial community and trait structure. Depth-wise, metabolism converge on low-molecular-weight and C1 compounds, challenging glucose-centric models, with surface soils enriched in methanol oxidation and

As oxygenated biofuels gain prominence in sustainable energy strategies, understanding their reaction kinetics with hydroxyl (˙OH) radicals is essential for predicting combustion behavior. In this work, all six hydrogen-atom abstraction (HAA) pathways in the solketal (2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxolane-4-methanol) + ˙OH reaction were characterized using high-level ab initio calculations and variational transition state theory (VTST). Molecular geometries and vibrational frequencies were obtained at the M06-2X/6-311++G(d,p) level, with single-point energies refined at the QCISD(T)/CBS level. Low-freque

Measurements of gaseous and particulate pollutants were conducted inside and outside a classroom in an urban area of Athens, Greece, using both reference instruments and low cost sensors. These data were used to evaluate indoor air quality and to estimate the emissions of total volatile organic compounds (VOCs) inside the classroom. The average air exchange rate during classes was estimated at 6.4 h-1, based on the CO2 concentration measurements. Paints, craft materials, and cleaning products have been identified as major indoor sources of VOCs. Total VOC emission rates varied depending on the

Herein, we report a potassium persulfate (K2S2O8) promoted methodology for the selective N-methoxymethylation of benzamides. Utilizing methanol as both the solvent and a sustainable C1 source, the developed protocol exhibits broad functional group tolerance with good to excellent yields. The deuterium-labelling experiment and reported literature suggest a radical-mediated pathway, offering a green, operationally simple approach for the synthesis of N-methoxymethylated benzamides.

The selective oxidation of methane under mild conditions remains a formidable challenge because of the inert C─H bond and the ease of over-oxidation. Here we report a facile strategy that enables methane conversion at room temperature and ambient pressure using molecular O2 and commercially available Cu powder in dilute aqueous H2SO4. The reaction is capable of proceeding with only trace CO2 formation, producing methyl bisulfate and methanol as the primary partial oxidation products. In situ Raman spectroscopy indicates that an in situ O2-derived Cu2O surface is the reaction-relevant phase ass

Free fatty acids (FFAs) are important targets in metabolic diseases. However, accurate quantification of a wide range of C2-C24 FFAs in the liver is challenging due to their structural diversity and large variations in abundance. To address this, a stepwise derivatization pretreatment was employed in this study: after liver homogenization, short-chain fatty acids were first extracted with diethyl ether-water (1:1, V/V). The ether layer was dehydrated with anhydrous Na2SO4 and then derivatized with BSTFA. The remaining pellet was extracted with chloroform-methanol (1:2, V/V), and after nitrogen

Bi-reforming (BRM) and tri-reforming (TRM) of methane have emerged as advanced, hybrid reforming methods that simultaneously utilize CH4, CO2, H2O, and, for TRM, O2 to produce cleaner, more flexible syngas for next-generation chemical and energy systems. This review compiles findings from 220 studies, primarily published between 2015 and 2025 that investigate the basics of reactions, catalyst development, thermodynamic behavior, and the transition to industrial deployment. BRM combines steam and dry reforming, achieving CH4 conversions of 85-95% and CO2 conversions of 50-80% at 750-900 °C. Syn

Filamentous fungi generate chemical diversity through several evolutionary strategies, including the elaboration of conserved biosynthetic intermediates into structurally distinct secondary metabolites. Emodin and its corresponding anthrone are central intermediates in fungal aromatic polyketide metabolism, yet the enzymatic logic that remodels these precursors into more complex scaffolds remains incompletely understood. To investigate this process, we examined an infection-responsive non-reducing polyketide synthase biosynthetic gene cluster (barc) from the entomopathogenic fungus Metarhizium

Sexually deceptive orchids mimic female mating signals of their pollinators to achieve pollination. In Australia, multiple orchid genera exploit male thynnine wasps as pollinators, raising the possibility of convergent evolution of floral traits. This study investigates the chemical basis of attraction in Spiculaea ciliata and its pollinator Thynnoturneria abspiculus, uncovering the use of shared chemical attractants. Flowers of S. ciliata were collected in the field and extracted in dichloromethane and methanol. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and field bioassays were used to ide

Conventional extraction of bioactive alkaloids relies on volatile organic solvents. This study evaluated 21 deep eutectic solvents (DESs) through experimental screening and multi scale computational profiling to extract piperine (PIP) from Piper nigrum and hydroxy sanshools (HAS and HBS) from Zanthoxylum bungeanum. For rigid PIP, a choline chloride/1,2-butanediol (1:4, 20% water) DES achieved 60.11 mg/g (a 1.53-fold increase over methanol). For flexible sanshools, a urea/acetic acid (1:2, 30% water) DES yielded 59.36 mg/g (HAS) and 14.61 mg/g (HBS). Molecular dynamics revealed that extraction

Methanol steam reforming (MSR) is an important route for on-site H2 production, yet practical application is generally constrained by high operation temperature and substantial energy consumption. Photothermal catalysis, in which hot electrons participate in catalytic reaction, offers a promising pathway for low-temperature MSR. Herein, a Cu/CeZrOx photothermal catalyst (denoted as CuCZ) was prepared through a coprecipitation-calcination-reduction strategy. The optimized CuCZ achieves a hydrogen production rate of 180.9 µmol g-1 s-1 under full-spectrum irradiation at 199°C, which is 26.2 times
