Assessment of lignocellulose hydrolysate component consumption by co-culture of Acinetobacter baylyi ADP1 and Lipomyces starkeyi Y-1389.

One of the major uses of petroleum products is transportation fuel such as gasoline and diesel, consumption of which substantially contributes to global warming. Oleaginous microorganisms capable of growing on lignocellulose hydrolysates serve as sustainable alternatives to hydrocarbon derived fuels. Co-culturing of two oleaginous microorganisms Acinetobacter baylyi ADP1 and Lipomyces starkeyi Y-1389 potentially allow us to overcome limitations of each of them, i.e., a relatively low lipid productivity for the former and a sensitivity to lignin hydrolysate products of the latter. This study in

Economic development and carbon emissions across world regions: Exploring heterogeneous drivers.

Global economic expansion has improved living standards and reduced global poverty. However, this expansion has been almost relied on burning fossil fuels, leading to unprecedented climate-changing CO2 emissions. This study attempts to understand the varying relationship between economic expansion and carbon emissions using multivariate regional comparison. For the period 2000 to 2021, we developed a panel dataset for 37 countries in four regions-Africa and the Middle East (AME), America, the Pacific-Asia, and Europe. Hence, this study examines the impact of economic growth, industrialization,

Evaluation of factors causing lateral migration of light non-aqueous phase liquids (LNAPLs) in onshore oil spill accidents.

Contamination of groundwater by harmful substances poses significant risks to both drinking water sources and aquatic ecosystems, making it a critical environmental concern. Most on-land spill events release organic molecules known as light non-aqueous phase liquids (LNAPLs), which then seep into the ground. Due to their low density and organic composition, they tend to float as they reach the water table. LNAPLs encompass a wide range of non-aqueous phase liquids, including various petroleum products, and can, over time, develop carcinogenic chemicals in water. However, due to frequent change

Study of Soybean Oil-Based Non-Isocyanate Polyurethane Films via a Solvent and Catalyst-Free Approach.

Synthesizing polymeric materials that are both sustainable and practical has become a priority. Polyurethanes (PUs) are becoming more popular because of their countless applications and exclusive properties in many sectors. While considering the current issue of environmental problems and the excessive use of petroleum products, nonisocyanate PU (NIPU) are favored due to their sustainability and low toxicity compared to conventional PU. In this work, flexible NIPU films were made using a green and facile method. For that, soybean oil (SBO) was used as the starting material and converted into e

Fuel forensics: Recent advancements in profiling of adulterated fuels by ATR-FTIR spectroscopy and chemometric approaches.

Gasoline and diesel are the main petroleum products used for road transportation in India. Due to this reason, adulteration can be done by fraudsters using different miscible substances such as kerosene, turpentine, thinner, ethanol etc. In this work, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) coupled with principal component analysis (PCA) and partial least square regression (PLSR) were used to investigate adulteration in petroleum products and to design an adulterant profiling. ATR-FTIR has an advantage over other traditional methods as it is less time-consuming and needs no extraction p

The application of laser‑induced fluorescence in oil spill detection.

Over the past two decades, oil spills have been one of the most serious ecological disasters, causing massive damage to the aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems as well as the socio-economy. In view of this situation, several methods have been developed and utilized to analyze oil samples. Among these methods, laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) technology has been widely used in oil spill detection due to its classification method, which is based on the fluorescence characteristics of chemical material in oil. This review systematically summarized the LIF technology from the perspective of excitat

Direct sulfur-containing compound speciation in crude oils and high-boiling fractions by APCI (+) FT-ICR mass spectrometry.

In this study, we focus on advancing the methodology for detecting sulfur-containing compounds (SCCs) in crude oils and their derivatives. These compounds are critical for geochemical analysis, crude oil evaluation, and overcoming production and refining challenges. Although various analytical techniques exist, the precision and resolution power of Fourier Transform Ion Cyclotron Resonance Mass Spectrometry (FT-ICR MS) stand out. However, the current methods for characterizing SCCs in petroleum products often lack standardization and tend to be complex and time-consuming. Our research introduc

Recent advances in functional micro/nanomaterials for removal of crude oil via thermal effects.

Crude oil is one of the most widely used energy and industrial raw materials that is crucial to the world economy, and is used to produce various petroleum products. However, crude oil often spills during extraction, transportation and use, causing negative impacts on the environment. Thus, there is a high demand for products to remediate leaked crude oil. Among them, oleophilic and hydrophobic adsorbents can absorb crude oil through thermal effects and are research hotspots. In this review, we first present an overview of wettability theory, the heating principles of various thermal effects,

Surfactant foam injection for remediation of diesel-contaminated soil: A comprehensive study on the role of co-surfactant in foaming formulation enhancement.

Aqueous foam injection is a promising technique for in-situ remediation of soil and aquifers contaminated by petroleum products. However, the application efficiency is strongly hindered by foam's instability upon contact with hydrocarbons. Addressing this, we propose a new binary surfactant mixture of Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate (SDS) and Cocamidopropyl Hydroxysultaine (CAHS). This study investigates CAHS's role as a co-surfactant in enhancing foam stability against antifoaming diesel oil under static and dynamic conditions. Using a dynamic foam analyzer (DFA-100), we assessed static foam's stabili
