Goldenhar syndrome (GS) is a rare congenital disorder characterized by multiple facial anomalies. This case report describes a GS presenting with bilateral cleft lip and palate and bilateral transverse facial cleft. We performed a single-stage surgery to repair the bilateral cleft lip and bilateral transverse facial cleft when the patient was 4-months-old. Bilateral cleft lip repair using the Mulliken method was performed first, and then the bilateral transverse facial cleft was corrected. Orbicularis oris muscle repair was done at each clefts. Anatomical approximation technique was used and t

INTRODUCTION: the infraorbital foramen (IOF) is a hole located in the maxillary bone and delivering passage to the infra orbital vascular-nervous bundle. It is an essential structure in the management of orofacial pathologies. Its precise location allows optimal anesthesia of the infraorbital nerve during cleft lip and palate surgery or alcoholization during the management of essential V2 neuralgia. The aim of our research was to determine the morphology and morphometry of the infraorbital foramen in a sample of the Cameroonian population.
METHODS: we included 208 CT-scans of patients meeting

Commissurotomy is a surgical technique whereby the lip commissure is incised. Indications for commissurotomy include cheiloplasty, partial commissurectomy, or access to the caudal portion of the maxilla or mandible for oral surgery. Carbon dioxide (CO2) laser was used for commissurotomy in dogs for partial commissurectomy (n = 7) or access for oral surgery (n = 60). All dogs had oral or maxillofacial neoplasms that required resective surgery. The CO2 laser was used to perform commissurotomy or commissurectomy, as indicated. Commissurotomy healing was evaluated at 2 weeks with longer-term follo

Introduction: Although selective denervation (SD) improves clinician-graded, objective, and patient-reported smile symmetry, changes in resting symmetry have not been comprehensively studied. Objective: To assess mid-term changes in resting facial symmetry after SD, and to evaluate changes in perceived emotions in faces at rest and with smiling. Methods: Nonflaccid facial paralysis (NFFP) patients undergoing SD were studied from September 2021 to October 2022. Patient-reported, clinician-graded, and objective metrics of resting and smile symmetry were quantified. Results: Fourteen patients (me

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Macrostomia is a congenital deformity found in Tessier no. 7 facial clefts defined as an enlargement of the mouth at the oral commissure. Several techniques are described in literature to achieve optimal functional and aesthetic results, with varying results and surgeon preferences. In this case series we report surgical repair of macrostomia with a vermillion square flap method for the oral commissure combined with either Z-plasty or W-plasty closure for the skin.
CASES PRESENTATION: A retrospective case analysis of 12 patients with macrostomia operated over the

Perioral tissues are among the first areas to show signs of facial aging, leading many patients to seek perioral fillers as their initial cosmetic treatment. These fillers offer a temporary solution by enhancing volume and reducing common facial lines. Various regions within the perioral area can be targeted, including the lips, nasolabial folds, philtral columns, vertical lip rhytids, oral commissures, melomental folds, mentolabial folds, and nasolabial folds. The technique for injecting perioral fillers depends on the specific region, chosen product, and the desired outcome of augmentation.

INTRODUCTION: Following surgical repair, patients with unilateral cleft lip (UCL) exhibit dynamic asymmetry during facial expressions compared to healthy individuals. Previous studies using Euclidean distances to describe this asymmetry fail to take the direction of the movement into account. The aim of this study is to compare differences in participants with UCL and controls using analysis of motion vectors during facial expressions.
METHODS: In this cross-sectional study, twenty-six pediatric participants were recruited: 13 participants with repaired left UCL and 13 participants with no cr

Background: Most of the characteristic facial features of patients with unilateral macrostomia are attributed to the malformation of commissure muscles. This study aimed to evaluate a modified surgical treatment for such patients that focuses on both appearance and symmetry. Methods: Twenty-seven patients with macrostomia underwent surgery using the proposed method. Facial measurements were analyzed preoperatively, 1 week postoperatively, and during a long-term follow-up using statistical software. Results: The overall length ratio of the healthy and affected sides of the vermillion preoperati

BACKGROUND: Nonflaccid facial palsy is a debilitating entity characterized by hypertonicity, synkinesis, and hypomobility. Patients with nonflaccid facial palsy often have smile asymmetry and restriction because of disruption of normal vector forces on the modiolus. Excision of the depressor anguli oris can lead to improved oral commissure excursion, smile angle, dental show, and symmetry.
METHODS: All depressor anguli oris resection cases between January 8, 2018, and December 26, 2019, were reviewed. Patients with postoperative photographs were included in this cohort study. Preoperative and

INTRODUCTION: The superior labial artery (SLA) is a facial artery (FA) that drains into the peri-oral region (dangerous area of face). Owing to the recent rise in the demand for reconstructive procedures and filler injections in this region, it is important to understand its arterial topography. This paper aims to study the embranchment pattern of the labial arteries in the eastern Indian population.
METHOD: An observational study using conventional dissection and dry dye injection methods was conducted to visualize the facial and superior labial arteries in 56 hemifaces. The origin, morphome

In the past, lip reconstruction after ablative surgery has been performed by primary closure and more recently by free flap transfer technique. Cheek's skin flap has been used to reconstruct the lower lip cutaneous portion. This study presents a reconstructive method for the vermillion and the lip's cutaneous portion using the Goldstein-Robotti techniques (for the vermillion) and the buccinator flap to reconstruct the cutaneous lip portion and the perioral muscles. This procedure allows a complete reconstruction with a double layer technique for defects of more than one-third of both lips, tog
