Rational design of Cr(VI) aptamer guided by revealed cation-mediated binding mechanism and construction of a label-free fluorescent aptasensor.

Aptasensors are widely recognized as practical and rapid detection tools for heavy metal pollution due to their high specificity and sensitivity. However, screening aptamers for small molecules (including ions) is significantly challenging. To date, only two Cr(VI) aptamers have been reported, which cannot meet the demand of aptasensor development for Cr(VI) detection. In this work, aiming at rational design of Cr(VI) aptamers, a new pattern of cation-mediated binding mechanism of aptamer Cr-62mer with target CrO42- was revealed for the first time by combined molecular dynamics (MD) simulation

Ladder-Like Structural Architecture of Layered Magnetic A2.4 Cr8Te14 (A = Rb, Cs) Compounds by Self-Flux Synthesis.

The discovery and control of intergrowth structures represent an important avenue for the targeted synthesis of new, more complex structure types. When including magnetic framework metal atoms, this enhanced complexity can transfer to rich magnetic ground states. Here, we show that the subtle adjustment of the composition of alkali-tellurium fluxes enables the synthesis of a new family of alkali chromium tellurides, A2.4 Cr 8 Te 14 ${\rm Cr}_{8}{\rm Te}_{14}$ (A = Rb, Cs). Their ladder-like crystal structures integrate the 2D character of delafossite-like A CrTe 2 $A{\rm CrTe}_{2}$ with

Inverse Ni/CeCrOx Catalysts for Enhanced Low-Temperature CO2 Methanation.

Low-temperature methanation technology offers a promising pathway for carbon recycling and sustainable energy storage by enabling near-equilibrium CO2 conversion under atmospheric pressure. However, efficiently activating CO2 at low temperatures remains a significant challenge due to the kinetic limitations of hydrogenation intermediates. We construct a composite oxide-metal interface structure by anchoring highly dispersed CeCrOx nanoclusters onto metallic nickel via an ion-exchange method. This catalyst exhibits superior activity compared to conventional Ni/oxide catalysts with identical com

Preparation of Poly-Quaternary Ammonium Functionalized Nonwovens via Mussel-Inspired In Situ Covalent Cross-Linking and Their Adsorption Properties.

Hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) is a highly toxic pollutant that is widespread and hazardous. Since Cr(VI) mainly exists in the form of anions in natural water, adsorption shows great advantages in the removal of Cr(VI), but the method is greatly affected by pH, and the development of adsorbent materials with excellent adsorption properties in a wide pH range is still expected. In this study, a novel strategy for the universal surface functionalization of poly-quaternary ammonium via in situ covalent cross-linking was proposed by combining mussel-inspired adhesion and macromolecular grafting, whi

Fabrication of multifunctional membranes via integrating g-C3N4 with Fe single-atom sites for efficient wastewater treatment.

The development of multifunctional membranes that combine rapid adsorption with photo-Fenton-like degradation capabilities is of great significance for enhancing the purification efficiency of wastewater containing diverse pollutants. Herein, a heterogeneous photo-Fenton-like catalyst featuring Fe single-atom sites stabilized by polydopamine on graphitic carbon nitride (denoted as Fe-PDA-CN) was synthesized and embedded into a polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) matrix to fabricate a Fe-PDA-CN/PVDF composite membrane through a non-solvent induced phase separation (NIPS) method. Efficient electro-Fenton-like degradation of para-nitroaniline via synergistic MIL-53(Fe,Cr)MOF/NGO heterogeneous catalysts.

The utilization of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) for the removal of pollutants in water has sparked heightened attention in recent research. This work explored in situ H2O2 generation by developing a MIL-53(Fe,Cr)/nitrogen-doped graphene oxide (NGO) electro-Fenton-like system to degrade p-nitroaniline (PNA). At optimal conditions of 10 wt% NGO and 90 wt% MIL-53(Fe,Cr), 98.68 % degradation efficacy was realized (initial PNA concentration = 10 mg/L), along with a kinetic constant of 0.38 min-1, surpassing earlier Fe/C micro-electrolysis and FeSO4.7H2O/H2O2 systems by 19 times and ∼5 times, res

A Selective Naked-Eye and Fluorescent Sensor for the Detection of Cr(III) and Cu(II) Ions and Their Cell Imaging Applications.

A newly synthesised colorimetric and fluorescent chemosensor (P1) was developed for the selective detection of Cr3+ and Cu2+ ions in the presence of various competing cations and anions. The structure of P1 was thoroughly characterized using FT-IR, NMR, high-resolution mass spectra, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction techniques. The 1:1 binding ratio of the probe was verified using Job's plot analysis, and further density functional theory calculations were performed to gain insight into the coordination mode, metal-ligand bonding, and optimized molecular geometry of the complexes. Sulfur disproportionation in engineered environmental systems: A critical review of mechanisms, applications, and emerging perspectives.

Sulfur disproportionation (SDP), a microbial metabolism that couples the oxidation and reduction of intermediate-valence sulfur compounds, is increasingly recognized as a key process in both natural sulfur cycling and engineered environmental systems. Despite growing interest, our understanding of SDP remains incomplete, and its practical significance has often been overlooked. This critical review integrates recent advances in ecophysiology, molecular mechanisms, and reactor-scale applications to establish a unified framework and provide practical guiding principles for SDP. We first summariz

Effect of framework material and gyroid lattice design on the biomechanics of all-on-four full-arch prostheses.

BACKGROUND: This finite element analysis (FEA) aimed to evaluate the biomechanical behavior of all-on-four implant-supported full-arch prostheses fabricated from different framework materials and internal designs. METHODS: Three-dimensional FEA models were constructed to simulate bar- and Toronto-type frameworks made of cobalt-chromium (Co-Cr), titanium (Ti), and polyetheretherketone (PEEK) materials. Each framework was modeled as a conventional solid structure, and metallic frameworks were also modeled with a gyroid lattice design. Vertical and oblique (30°, 150 N) loading conditions were ap

A thermal-responsive quaternary ammonium-functionalized composite SiO2@QA-PNIPAM for efficient removal of Cr(VI) from wastewater.

Hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) is a highly toxic, mobile heavy metal that threatens water safety and human health. Although the adsorption method is widely used for Cr(VI) removal, the regeneration of conventional adsorbents often relies on chemical elution by toxic compounds, risking secondary pollution. To address this, we developed a thermal-responsive composite adsorbent, SiO2@QA-PNIPAM, for the environment-friendly and energy-efficient Cr(VI) removal. This intelligent material was fabricated by grafting temperature-sensitive poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) and positively charged quater

Spatial distribution of Mn oxides in paddy soil profiles regulates rice grain accumulation of Ni and Cr through adsorption and oxidation.

Paddy soils derived from basalt weathering contain high levels of Fe-Mn oxides, along with elevated nickel (Ni) and chromium (Cr), posing threats to rice safety. Unlike Fe oxides, Mn oxides exhibit both adsorption and oxidation capabilities, creating complex regulatory mechanisms for Ni and Cr. The environmental impacts of these oxides depend on their spatial distribution, though the mechanisms remain unclear. This study investigates the synergistic regulation of δ-MnO2 on the speciation transformation and bioavailability of Ni and Cr. Pot experiments were setup using δ-MnO2 distributed either

Strigolactone-mediated regulation of chromium uptake, redox homeostasis, and photosynthetic carbon metabolism during Cr (VI) stress tolerance in Capsicum annuum L.

Strigolactones mitigate Cr(VI) toxicity in Capsicum annuum by limiting chromium uptake and reprogramming photosynthesis and redox metabolism, thereby preserving chloroplast function and cellular integrity. Agricultural soil contamination and its impact on the crops require alternative strategies to reduce associated environmental risks. Strigolactones (SLs) are emerging phytohormones that regulate plant development and stress adaptation; however, their role in hexavalent chromium [Cr(VI)] tolerance remains poorly understood. Here, we investigated the mechanistic basis of SL-mediated mitigation
