Selective deoxygenative bis- and monoborylation of carboxylic esters via boryloxy chromium-carbenes.

Fischer-type metal carbenes are versatile intermediates that mediate a wide array of molecular transformations. However, their classical synthesis typically requires stoichiometric amounts of chromium and hazardous reagents such as diazo compounds or organolithium species, posing significant safety and operational concerns. A recent copper- and palladium-catalyzed Brook rearrangement of aroylsilanes opened a catalytic strategy to alleviate these problems. Herein, we report a complementary strategy that enables catalytic deoxygenative borylation of carboxylic esters under conditions consistent

Directional charge transfer driven by superior interfacial electric field in AT-PDI/BOB toward simultaneous removal of tetracycline and Cr(VI).

In order to solve the problem of compound pollution of antibiotics and heavy metals in water, AT-PDI/Bi4O5Br2 (AT-PDI/BOB) composites with strong interfacial electric field (IEF) were prepared by hydrothermal method. In the coexistence system containing Tetracycline (TC) and Cr(VI), the material shows obvious synergistic degradation effect, with a degradation rate of 88.9% for TC and 98.2% for Cr(VI). The 10-h flow experiment validated its stability, maintaining the degradation rates of TC and Cr(VI) at approximately 73% and 86%. The enhanced IEF largely illustrates a significant performance i

Heavy metals and per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances in breast milk: associations with infant birth outcomes in an E-waste recycling area.

Many environmental pollutants are released during the dismantling of electronic waste (e-waste). Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and heavy metals are representative pollutants of persistent and hazardous contaminants that are known to pose threats to human health. In an e-waste dismantling area, 149 mothers with singleton births and their infants were recruited in 2021 to investigate associations between heavy metals and PFAS concentrations in postpartum breast milk and infant birth outcomes. The concentrations of six heavy metals and six PFAS compounds were measured in breast milk.

Sustainable Synthesis of Biomass-Based Carbon Quantum Dots for Selective Fluorescent Recognition of Cr3+ and In Vitro Antioxidant Applications.

The development of cost-effective, eco-friendly, sensitive, and efficient analytical platforms for the monitoring of metal ions holds profound practical value. In this work, edible fungus carbon quantum dots (Ef-CQDs) are synthesized via a facile hydrothermal route using edible fungus as a green carbon precursor, and a novel fluorescence sensing strategy is established for the rapid and selective detection of Cr3+ in environmental water matrices. Systematic optical investigations revealed that the as-prepared Ef-CQDs displayed outstanding selectivity toward Cr3+ over other coexisting metal ion

Compositional Tuning of Mixed Chromium Monopotassium Phosphates by Ni2+/Co2+ Substitution for Energy Storage Applications.

This study synthesized a solid-solution series of KCo1-xNixCr2(PO4)3 phosphates with the α-CrPO4-type three-dimensional framework, in which edge-sharing CrO6 octahedra and PO4 tetrahedra create tunnels hosting K+ cations. Systematic Ni2+/Co2+ substitution was used to tune dielectric and charge-transport properties. All compounds showed stable paraelectric behavior; increasing Co content enhanced polarizability and dielectric permittivity while maintaining low dielectric loss. When used as electrode materials in graphite-based supercapacitors, higher Co content led to improved electrochemical p

Enhanced anti-toxicity memory of Cr(VI)-4-CP stressed denitrification by bio-promoter: Microbial cooperation and multi-path electron transfer drive toxics transformation-migration.

Coexisting heavy metals and organic pollutants in industrial wastewaters posed synergistic inhibition to denitrification by activating dissimilatory nitrate reduction and disrupting electron supply-consumption balance. Taking Cr(VI) and 4-chlorophenol (4-CP) as representative pollutants, this study proposed a combined bio-promoter composed of growth factors and phosphomolybdic acid (PMo₁₂) to accelerate recovery and establish anti-toxicity memory under compound stress. The promoter restored over 90% nitrogen removal within 9 T and maintained 63.6% nitrogen removal under Cr(VI)-4-CP re-stress.

Constructing amorphous-crystalline FeS via coordination regulation of ethylenediamine for efficient Cr(VI) removal from groundwater.

The low reactivity of crystalline ferrous sulfide (FeS) limits its application for hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) remediation in groundwater. Herein, we synthesize low-crystallinity FeS via coordination regulation using ethylenediamine (EDA), N,N'-dimethylethylenediamine (DMEDA), ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA), and citric acid (CA). Among these, EDA-FeS exhibits the highest Cr(VI) removal efficiency (26.55 times that of unmodified FeS) with an optimal EDA-to-Fe(II) molar ratio of 2:1 and a maximum removal capacity of 159.04 mg/g. The material demonstrates robust environmental applicabili

Synergistic adsorption and reduction of Cr(VI) by ferrocene-functionalized polyethyleneimine-crosslinked lignin composite.

To overcome the limitations of low specific surface area and functional group reactivity of lignin, a novel ferrocene-loaded, polyethyleneimine (PEI)-crosslinked lignin composite (FLP) was developed via glutaraldehyde-mediated grafting of PEI and strategic immobilization of ferrocene (Fc), which effectively improved the pore structure, surface accessibility, and redox-assisted reduction capability of the material. FLP achieved a Cr(VI) removal efficiency of 96.53%, and the maximum adsorption capacity was 536 mg g-1. The adsorption behavior followed the pseudo-second-order kinetic model, while

Single Cell Transcriptomic Atlas Reveals Cellular Heterogeneity and Molecular Mechanisms in Pediatric Airway Hyperresponsiveness Epithelium.

BACKGROUND: Airway hyperresponsiveness (AHR) is a clinically important feature of chronic pediatric inflammatory airway disease, but its cellular architecture remains incompletely resolved. Because bulk transcriptomic approaches can mask signals from rare or state-specific cell populations, single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) offers a useful framework for examining epithelial and immune cell diversity in hyperresponsive airways. METHODS: Publicly available scRNA-seq data (GEO: GSM8722221) from bronchial brushing specimens of pediatric AHR patients (10x Genomics Chromium platform) were proc

Enhanced Alkaline Water Electrolysis Using Cr-Doped NiCoP/Ni3S2 Hollow Nanowires with Heterointerfaces as Bifunctional Catalysts.

For the goal of mitigating energy scarcity via hydrogen production from water electrolysis, the high performance, low cost transition-metal-based catalysts are essential to be designed and manufactured. In this study, we prepare chromium-doped nickel cobalt phosphide/nickel sulfide (Cr-NiCoP/Ni3S2) heterostructured hollow nanowires on conductive nickel foam through a two-step hydrothermal method coupled with low temperature phosphorization procedure. Benefiting from the remarkable electron transport capability inherent in transition metal compounds, the large specific surface area afforded by

Synthesis of Eco-Friendly Sustainable Carbon Dots: A Fluorescent Probe for Chromium VI Ions in Aquatic Environment.

Owing to its high toxicity and water solubility, chromium (VI) poses severe risks to biological systems through aquatic environments. Therefore, it is important to develop new, sustainable, and efficient detection techniques for Cr6+ ions. In this study, blue-emitting carbon dots (DL-CDs) were synthesized from biomass via a direct heating method using Dalbergia latifolia leaves as the carbon source. Upon excitation at 380 nm, the DL-CDs exhibit strong blue fluorescence emission at 435 nm. The synthesized DL-CDs possess an average particle size of approximately 5.5 nm and are rich in surface fu

Mahonia-derived carbon dots for dual-ion ratiometric sensing and cellular bioimaging.

The presence of hexavalent chromium (Cr6+) and silver ions (Ag+) in pharmaceutical systems poses significant safety concerns due to their toxicity and bioaccumulation potential. Therefore, the development of rapid, reliable, and matrix-tolerant sensing platforms is highly desirable. Herein, ultra-small carbon quantum dots (CDs, ∼0.982 nm) were synthesized from Mahoniae Caulis extract and m-phenylenediamine (m-PD) as carbon and nitrogen sources. The natural heteroatoms and phytochemicals in Mahoniae Caulis endowed the CDs with abundant surface functionalities, strong green fluorescence, and exc

A sensitive ratiometric fluorescence sensor for Pb(II) and Cr(VI) simultaneous detection based on microfluidic chip utilizing dual-emission-channel carbon dots strategy.

Pb(II) and Cr(VI) are persistent environmental pollutants. Their high toxicity and bioaccumulative potential endanger ecosystem stability and human health, raising significant concern in environmental research and regulation. Herein, dual-channel carbon dots (DC-CDs) are prepared by employing a one-step hydrothermal method with tris(hydroxymethyl)aminomethane and m-dihydroxybenzene as precursors. Optical analysis indicates the DC-CDs possess dual emission centers, with emission maxima at 425 nm and 525 nm, which are observable under corresponding excitation wavelengths. Both emission peaks are

Comparison of measured and modeled data for carcinogen workplace exposure assessment: a case study on chromium trioxide under REACH and OSH frameworks.

INTRODUCTION: Occupational exposure to chromium trioxide (CAS number: 1333-82-0) remains a major concern in the electroplating sector. Risk assessment is regulated under both the REACH Regulation, which focuses on substance-related risks across the supply chain, and Occupational Safety and Health (OSH), which emphasizes workplace-specific exposure. The two regulatory frameworks adopt different approaches, particularly regarding the role of exposure models and monitoring for workplace risk assessment. This study investigated the outcomes of exposure assessment under REACH and OSH, comparing mod

Combined Developmental Toxicity of Ecologically Relevant Concentrations of the PFOS Alternative F-53B and Hexavalent Chromium in Zebrafish, Danio rerio.

6:2 Chlorinated polyfluoroether sulfonate (F-53B), an emerging per- and polyfluoroalkyl substance used as a perfluorooctane sulfonate substitute in electroplating, may co-occur with Cr(VI) in industrially affected aquatic environments. However, their combined developmental toxicity in vertebrates remains poorly understood. This study compared the effects of F-53B and Cr(VI) alone and in combination on zebrafish embryos and larvae exposed from 0 to 120 hpf at environmentally relevant concentrations (10 and 100 μg/L). Developmental toxicity, ocular morphology, retinal histology, locomotor behavi

The combined toxic effects of long-term exposure to environmentally relevant concentrations of imidacloprid and chromium on Xenopus laevis tadpoles: Growth, oxidative stress, and molecular mechanisms.

Imidacloprid (IMI) and chromium (Cr), as widely co-occurring pesticide and heavy metal pollutants in freshwater ecosystems, pose potential threats to non-target aquatic organisms. Despite their frequent detection in the environment, systematic investigations into their combined toxicity mechanisms remain limited, particularly in ecologically significant amphibians. Therefore, in this study, the mechanisms of single and combined toxicity of IMI and Cr in Xenopus laevis tadpoles were investigated at environmentally relevant concentrations (41.4 μg/L IMI; 54.6 μg/L Cr). The results showed that th

New Insights into Circularly Polarized Luminescence from Chromium(III) Spin-Flip Emitters.

Circularly Polarized Luminescence (CPL) is emerging as a central tool for chiral photonics, enabling applications ranging from sensing and security inks to circularly polarized organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). While most highly developed CPL emitters are organic chromophores, lanthanide complexes, or 4d/5d transition‑metal compounds, recent work has placed kinetically inert chromium(III) polypyridines at the forefront of the field. Their near‑infrared (NIR) metal‑centered 'spin‑flip' emissions produce long-lived and relatively large dissymmetry factors (|glum| ≈ 2·10-1) when chirality is
