Luminescent new zirconium-based coordination polymer for selective and sensitive detection of dichromate ions in aqueous media.

A new zirconium-based coordination polymer was synthesized through the coordination of zirconium(IV) ions with a newly synthesized π-conjugated amide-functionalized organic linker, namely N,N'-(1,2-phenylene)dioxamic acid. The ligand was prepared by reacting oxalic acid dihydrate (2 mmol) with o-phenylenediamine (1 mmol) in aqueous solution at 70 °C, forming a linker containing amide and carboxylate functionalities. The resulting linker solution was subsequently reacted with ZrOCl2·8H2O under hydrothermal conditions at 80 °C to form a robust and luminescent framework. The resulting compound 1

Direct Visualization of Canted Magnetization and Topological Charges in Self-Intercalated van der Waals Magnet Cr1+δTe2 with Hidden Structural Phases.

Intercalated van der Waals (vdW) magnets have attracted growing interest owing to their rich and highly tunable magnetic properties and their promise for ultracompact spintronic applications. A remarkable example is self-intercalated chromium tellurides (Cr1+δTe2), in which spatially ordered chromium atoms occupy the vdW gaps, yielding a variety of known compounds (e.g., Cr1.25Te2, Cr1.33Te2, and Cr1.5Te2) that host distinct and intriguing magnetic states. In this work, we uncover the existence of hidden, ordered self-intercalated phases that form spontaneously along with a twisted Cr1.5Te2 ph

Traffic-related air toxics and Parkinson's disease in California's Central Valley.

Growing evidence links air pollution to Parkinson's disease (PD), yet most research focuses on criteria pollutants like nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and fine particulate matter (PM2.5), which cannot pinpoint specific toxic constituents driving the association. This population-based case-control study from the counties of Fresno, Tulare, and Kern in central California (764 patients, 798 controls) investigated whether specific air toxics - metals with mobile-source/industrial contributions (nickel, zinc), vehicle-exhaust volatile organic compounds (benzene, 1,3-butadiene), and industrial/urban metals

Bond-length-driven magnetic transition in quasi-one-dimensional CrSbX3(X= S, Se).

Usingab initiocalculations, we investigate the magnetic ground states of quasi-one-dimensional insulating CrSb(= S, Se) with infinite double-rutile chains. Within conventional band theory, without explicit Coulomb correlations (), we obtain band gaps in close agreement with experiment. Remarkably, we find that the magnetic order is highly sensitive to the Cr-Cr bond length: increasing the bond length induces a transition from antiferromagnetic to ferromagnetic order at a critical distanceÅ. Accordingly, lies near the transition boundary, whereasis robustly ferromagnetic, in good agreement with

Molecular Mechanisms of Dissolved Organic Matter in Controlling Cr(III) Colloidal Deposition and Reversibility.

Transport of Cr(III) colloids in the subsurface poses environmental risks because they can be reoxidized to carcinogenic Cr(VI). Although dissolved organic matter (DOM) is known to determine the fate of colloidal Cr(III) via organic-mineral interactions, the molecular mechanisms controlling its mobility and deposition remain unclear. This study investigated changes in the deposition kinetics and characteristics of Cr(III) colloids in response to DOM composition and concentration. Quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation showed a nonmonotonic deposition pattern of Cr(III)-DOM colloids acros

From rice mill waste to water remediation: A circular economy and sustainability approach using magnesium ferrite incorporated inorganic matrix nanocomposites for chromium and nickel removal.

In this study, rice husk generated from the rice milling industry, commonly used as boiler fuel and subsequently discarded as ash along with wood residue ash, has been valorised into a functional bio-nanocomposite. Unlike conventional approaches that rely on synthetic or purified precursors, the present work directly utilizes this industrial waste, thereby addressing both waste management and material development within a circular economy framework. In this context, rice husk ash and wood ash were employed for the synthesis of magnesium ferrite-based bio-nanocomposite beads (MgF/RHWA) using a

Boron-Doped Carbon Dots Derived From Herbal Mixture for Selective Fluorimetric Sensing of Cr6+ and Their Environmental Applications.

Carbon dots prepared from natural resources are presently being used as chemosensors of different metal ions. In the present work, highly fluorescent and photostable boron-doped carbon dots (BCDs) with an average size of 10.7 nm were prepared from a powder mixture of Azadirachta indica, Momordica charantia, and Syzygium cumini in the presence of boric acid using a hydrothermal process. BCDs were characterized using HRTEM, XRD, XPS, Fourier transform infrared spectra (FTIR), UV-Vis, and fluorescence techniques. Maximum emission intensity of BCDs was recorded at 420 nm on excitation at 330 nm. T

Mitigating heavy metal stress in plants: Combined effects of cold plasma seed treatment and dopamine on the physio-chemical response of fenugreek under chromium toxicity.

This study investigated the physiological and biochemical responses of fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum L.) to dopamine (200 μM) application and seed treatment with atmospheric pressure non-thermal plasma (APNP) under chromium (Cr) stress (300 μM). APNP treatment markedly enhanced the hydrophilic properties of seed surfaces, thereby improving their interfacial affinity for water. Exposure to Cr stress alone led to a reduction in photosynthetic pigments and relative water content (RWC), alongside significant increases in hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂), malondialdehyde (MDA), and electrolyte leaka

3D Printing Filament Composition, Emissions, and Induced Proinflammatory Responses.

This study addresses current gaps in the 3D printing literature for filament composition (polymer type, color, and brand), aerosol emissions, and human health risks. Six metals (aluminum, magnesium, manganese, chromium, iron, and copper) were found in nonmetal filaments depending on polymer type, color, and brand using inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry. For copper- and steel-filled filaments, scanning electron microscopy and elemental analysis indicated a higher metal concentration within the filaments than on the surface. More VOCs were emitted from acrylonitrile butadiene styrene

Double macrocyclic cationic crosslinked network enabling ultrafast and efficient aqueous Cr(Ⅵ) remediation.

The efficient Cr(VI) remediation from industrial wastewater is of critical importance in water purification. Herein, we rationally constructed a dual-macrocyclic cationic cross-linked network (P1) through a quaternization-driven nucleophilic substitution strategy. The incorporation of calixarene units suppresses excessive aggregation of porphyrin macrocycles, thereby improving the accessibility of adsorption sites, while the cross-linked network provides mesoporous features and interparticle voids that facilitate the diffusion of chromium species. In addition, the porphyrin and calixarene buil

Conformation-Guided Remote C-H Functionalization of Aromatic Compounds.

Achieving site-selective C-H functionalization at remote, unbiased positions of the aromatic ring remains a major challenge in the field. We report a conformational control strategy that enables remote meta-selective C-H borylation of mono- and 1,2-disubstituted (poly)arenes via arene π-complexation with Cr(CO)3. The chromium tripod adopts a preferred conformation, exposing the meta-C-H bond, while a tailored iridium catalyst bearing 2-aminophenanthroline ligands reinforces this effect and overrides intrinsic substrate bias. In polyaromatics, the chromium tripod acts as both a conformational d

Comprehensive Health Risk Assessment of Electronic Cigarette Aerosols: Metal and PAH Characterization, Oxidative Potential, and Cancer Risk Estimation.

Electronic cigarettes (ECs) have emerged as popular alternatives to traditional cigarettes (TCs), yet their health impacts remain contentious due to limited systematic evaluations integrating multiple toxicological end points. This study provides a comprehensive assessment of EC aerosol toxicity by combining chemical characterization, oxidative potential (OP) measurement, and health risk modeling with systematic cross-study comparisons. Chemical analysis revealed that five metals (Cu, Ni, Ag, Zn, and Pb) originate exclusively from device components, while cross-study comparison identified subs

Organic cultivation on the Yungui plateau improves green tea flavor while reducing heavy metal accumulation.

Organic (ORG) and conventional (CON) teas are produced under distinct cultivation systems that may influence tea quality and safety. However, comparative studies focusing on plateau regions remain limited. In this study, tea samples from the same cultivar cultivated under ORG and CON systems in the Yungui Plateau were comparatively analyzed in terms of physicochemical properties, heavy metal contents, and volatile profiles. Compared with CON green tea, the contents of tea polyphenols, catechin, and quercetin in ORG green tea increased by 6.95%, 75.9%, and 11.9%, respectively, whereas the conte

Structure-Activity Relationship of Oxyphosphonate Inhibitors: Role of Heteroatoms in Controlling Pitting Corrosion of Ferritic-Martensitic Steel EP-450.

The structure-activity relationship of three oxyphosphonate inhibitors differing in heteroatom type (C, N, S) was examined to clarify their influence on the pitting corrosion resistance of ferritic-martensitic steel EP-450 in chloride media. Gravimetric tests in 10% FeCl3, supported by surface microscopy and adsorption analysis, showed that EP-450 is highly susceptible to localized attack, with pits nucleating preferentially at carbide-enriched, chromium-depleted regions. Addition of dimethyl(1-hydroxycyclohexyl)phosphonate reduced the corrosion rate from 49 to 33 mm/year at 2.0 g/L, correspon

In Silico Investigation of Phytochemicals from Djiboutian Plants Targeting Sulfate and Phosphate Transporters Involved in Dichromate Uptake.

Background/Objectives: Chromium contamination represents a major environmental challenge due to its detrimental effects on plant growth and agricultural productivity. Since dichromate uptake in plants occurs mainly through sulfate and phosphate transporters, identifying natural compounds capable of competitively inhibiting these transport pathways may provide an eco-friendly strategy for reducing chromium accumulation. This study aimed to investigate the inhibitory potential of phytochemicals from Djiboutian medicinal plants against sulfate and phosphate transporters using an integrated comput

Microalgae-based integrated treatment of tannery wastewater: emphasizing microbial synergy for sustainable remediation.

Tannery wastewater (TWW) presents a complex and toxic mixture of pollutants, including heavy metals such as chromium, cadmium, lead, and nickel, as well as organic compounds, surfactants, sulfides, chlorides, and dyes. Conventional treatment methods often lead to high operational costs, sludge generation, and disposal issues. This review critically examines the integration of microalgae-based systems with physical, chemical, and biological methods for advanced TWW remediation, emphasising mechanistic insights and consortia-driven treatment. Microalgae facilitate pollutant removal through bioso

Stereoelectronically Controlled Regioselective Allylation of Aldehyde Under Photoredox/Chromium Catalysis.

The formation of structurally defined α,γ-disubstituted allylmetallic intermediate which could undergo regioselective allylation with carbonyl compounds remains a formidable challenge in synthetic chemistry. Although regioselective in situ formation of α,γ-disubstituted allylchromium intermediate controlled by coordinative directing groups has been achieved, how to achieve high selectivity for reactions involving α,γ-disubstituted allylic chromium intermediates through electronic control has been elusive. In this study, we report a silyl-group-directed strategy that exploits the α-silicon effe
