Dual-Mode "Turn-On/Off" Chemosensor for Trivalent Cations and Arsenate: Live Cell and Logic Gate Functionality.

This study introduces a novel chemosensor (RbT) for the selective and highly sensitive detection of Al³⁺, Fe³⁺, Cr³⁺ (M³⁺) ions and arsenate anion (AsO₄³−). The sensor was synthesized through the strategic integration of Rhodamine B, phosphorus oxychloride, and Tryptamine, and operates via a chelation-enhanced fluorescence (CHEF) mechanism in an H₂O/ACN (3:7, pH 7) system. Upon coordination with M³⁺ ions, RbT exhibits a strong fluorescence enhancement and a visible deep-pink color change, enabling dual spectroscopic and visual detection. The sensor exhibits remarkable sensitivity within the mi

Effects of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungus on the functional bacteria assembly in promoting plant growth and nutrient acquisition in karst soil.

BACKGROUND: The poor soil nutrients in the degraded karst region frequently restrict vegetation growth. Soil bacterial communities are essential drivers of biogeochemical cycling and regulate soil nutrient availability. Arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi play a fundamental role in shaping rhizosphere bacterial communities and promoting plant growth and nutrient acquisition. Nevertheless, how AM fungi mediated bacterial community interaction and assembly involved in nutrient cycling to promote plant growth and nutrient acquisition in karst soil remains unclear. In this study, a greenhouse pot ex

Physiological and transcriptomic cooperative regulatory mechanisms of Cotinus Coggygria in response to drought and rewatering processes.

BACKGROUND: Global drought represents a pressing environmental challenge, necessitating a deeper comprehension of how plant species at various stages of drought response adapt to such stress. Cotinus coggygria, a deciduous tree species known for its autumn color transformation, holds significance for arid and semi-arid ecological contexts. Presently, investigations into C. coggygria primarily concentrate on the effect of drought on its leaf color, with limited examination of the fundamental mechanisms involved. Through the merging of physiological and transcriptomic data analysis of C. coggygr

Modern Quantum Chemistry Methodology for Predicting 31P Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Chemical Shifts.

Phosphorus-31 nuclear magnetic resonance (31P NMR) spectroscopy is a powerful analytical physical chemistry experimental technique that is widely used to study the structure and dynamics of phosphorus-containing compounds today. Accurate calculation of 31P NMR chemical shifts lies in the basis of the proper assignment of NMR signals, as they can be closely spaced to each other in the NMR spectra of systems that bear nuclei with subtly different electron environments, like complex organophosphorus compounds, nucleic acids, and phosphates, etc. The most advanced quantum chemistry (QC) methods al

Influence of Light, Temperature, and Nutrient Availability on Growth and Biochemical Composition of Scenedesmus quadricauda Cultivated in Municipal Wastewater.

Municipal wastewater contains high amounts of nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P), as well as other compounds that are harmful to the environment; however, it can also be used as an algae growth medium. In this study locally (Lithuania) isolated algae Scenedesmus quadricauda were cultivated in local (Vilnius city) municipal wastewater. Data show that Scenedesmus algae can be grown in municipal wastewater as successfully as in Bold's basal medium for 14 days. Algae cultivation significantly reduced the concentration of organic nitrogen forms and phosphate levels. The nitrogen concentration in waste

Nucleophilic Addition of Stabilized Phosphorus Ylides to Closo-Decaborate Nitrilium Salts: A Synthetic Route to Boron Cluster-Functionalized Iminoacyl Phosphoranes and Their Application in Potentiometric Sensing.

This work explores a novel and efficient synthetic approach to a new class of boron cluster derivatives via the nucleophilic addition of stabilized phosphorus ylides, Ph3P=CHR2 (R2 = COOEt, CN), to a series of nitrilium salts of the closo-decaborate anion, [2-B10H9NCR1]- (R1 = Me, Et, nPr, iPr, Ph). The reaction proceeds regio- and stereospecifically, affording a diverse range of iminoacyl phosphorane derivatives, [2-B10H9NH=C(R1)C(PPh3)R2]-, in high isolated yields (up to 95%). The obtained compounds (10 examples) were isolated as tetrabutylammonium or tetraphenylphosphonium salts and thoroug

Study on the effect of phosphate-doping in wollastonite scaffolds on their physicochemical properties and critical calvarial defect repair.

The reconstruction of critical-size skull defects is challenged by the limited availability of autologous bone grafts and the mismatch between degradation rate and new bone formation in synthetic scaffolds. Wollastonite (CaSiO3; CSi), despite its favorable bioactivity, suffers from rapid degradation and inadequate structural stability, hindering its clinical application. In this study, we conducted systematic parameter optimization by fabricating a series of 3D-printed wollastonite scaffolds with uniform phosphate-doping levels (CSi-Px, where x = 0, 3, 6, and 9 mol%) via digital light processi

Predictive models for the removal efficiency of emerging organic contaminants based on conventional water quality parameters in horizontal subsurface flow constructed wetlands.

This study examines the prospects of predicting the removal efficiency of emerging organic contaminants (EOCs) (pharmaceuticals-PhCs and personal care products-PCPs) based on conventional water quality parameters (CWQPs) including total suspended solids (TSS), chemical oxygen demand (COD), ammonium‑nitrogen (NH4+-N) and total phosphorus (TP) in horizontal subsurface flow constructed wetlands (HFCWs). Although previous research demonstrates a correlation between CWQPs and EOCs removal in CWs, research is lacking in evaluating the possibilities of developing predictive models. To bridge this gap

Marine Bioceramic Generation for Bone Tissue Regeneration: Sea Urchin (Echinometra mathaei) Exoskeleton-Derived Calcium Carbonate as a Precursor for Hydroxyapatite Synthesis, Incorporated into Chitosan Based-Hydrogel and 3D-Printed PCL Scaffold for Osteogenic Differentiation.

The marine environment is a rich and diverse habitat, home to numerous organisms that serve as valuable sources of biological and pharmacological compounds. The skeletal structures of many marine invertebrates represent precursors for calcium phosphate (CaP) bioceramics. This study demonstrates hydroxyapatite (HA) synthesis from sea urchin (Echinometra mathaei) shell and spine, a sustainable CaCO₃ source. FTIR and XRD analysis revealed the presence of characteristic peaks associated with hydroxyapatite. SEM-EDS observations indicated that synthesis parameters determined the calcium to phosphor

Zinc-catalyzed dehydrogenative coupling of primary alcohols and secondary/benzyl phosphine oxides for alkene synthesis.

A zinc-catalyzed method has been developed for the direct conversion of primary alcohols into alkenes under acceptorless dehydrogenation conditions. Utilizing a simple and Earth-abundant zinc catalyst, this approach enables the dehydrogenative coupling of primary alcohols with either diphenylphosphine oxide (to generate symmetric alkenes) or benzyl phosphine oxides (to generate asymmetric alkenes), affording a diverse range of alkenes in moderate to high yields with (E)-selectivity. This strategy provides a promising facile route for alkene synthesis directly from readily accessible alcohols,

Novel Insights into Driving Forces of Carbon Burial, Nutrient Heterogeneity, and Pollutant Release Pathways in Urban Lake Sediments.

Characterizing the variation of pollutants in lake sediment and clarifying their release into overlying water are essential for remediating contaminated sediment. In this study, the total carbon in urban lake sediments significantly decreased with increasing depth, indicating a gradual reduction in carbon burial capacity. Initially, carbon and nitrogen were sequestered by the lake sediments, but they gradually diffused into the water or escaped into the atmosphere over time. The C/N ratios and carbon isotope ratios indicated a shift from algae to C4 or crassulacean acid metabolism plants as th

A-Site Solid Solution Effects on Electrical Resistivity, Oxidation Resistance, and Hardness of MAX Phases V2(As1-xPx)C and V2(As1-xGex)C.

MAX phases are a class of compounds known for having both metallic and ceramic properties, such as good electrical conductivity, oxidation resistance, and high hardness. The bulk of the research on their properties focuses on those with titanium at the M-site and metals from groups 13 to 15, e.g., aluminum, at the A-site. Here, we expand the properties repertoire with new arsenic-containing A-site solid solutions, V2(As1-xPx)C and V2(As1-xGex)C. The structure and elemental composition of the solid solutions were resolved with powder X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy with energy-d

Hydrogen Shift Reactions in Nonhydrocarbon Peroxy Radicals.

Hydrogen shift reactions (H-shifts) are important unimolecular steps in the autoxidation of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). These potentially lead to the formation of highly oxygenated organic molecules (HOMs) that contribute to the formation of secondary organic aerosol (SOA). Although H-shift chemistry in hydrocarbon peroxy radicals (RO2) is well-studied, the impact of incorporating a heteroatom, oxygen, nitrogen, sulfur, or phosphorus (O, N, S, or P), into the carbon backbone remains largely unexplored. We have used a multiconformer transition state theory approach to calculate H-shift r

Unsaturated Phosphorus Electrophiles to Probe Protein Tyrosine Phosphatases.

Protein tyrosine phosphatases (PTPs) represent an important pharmacological target and subject of study. Although a number of broad-spectrum electrophilic, phosphotyrosine-mimicking probes have been developed to covalently capture the catalytic site of these enzymes, there is still a high demand for PTP probes with high target selectivity that are accessible in a synthetically straightforward way. Unsaturated phosphorus (V) (P(V)) compounds have recently emerged as powerful cysteine-selective bioconjugation reagents (P5-labeling). Herein, we introduce ethynyl-substituted aryl phosphonamidic an

Phosphorus-Nitrogen Co-doped Carbon Dots for Fluorescence Detection of Tigecycline: Mechanistic Exploration.

Carbon dots (CDs) have been broadly employed in many fields due to their excellent fluorescence property, especially in pharmaceutical analysis. Herein, we developed a simple and rapid method to prepare the phosphorus-nitrogen (P, N) co-doped carbon dots via a 3-minute 50-second microwave-assisted synthesis, using N-butyldiethanolamine as the carbon source with phosphoric acid accelerating the CDs formation reaction. The prepared CDs (termed CD1) were characterized by TEM, FT-IR, XPS, XRD and fluorescence spectroscopy. P, N co-doped CDs exhibited notable water solubility, a quantum yield of 19

Chemical inhibition of INO1 reduces phytic acid in rice and wheat grains for enhanced micronutrient bioavailability.

Phytic acid (PA), the major phosphorus storage compound in cereal grains, chelates essential minerals such as iron and zinc, thereby preventing their absorption in the human intestine and contributing to micronutrient deficiencies. Myo-inositol 3-phosphate synthase 1 (INO1) is a key enzyme in PA biosynthesis, catalysing the pathway's first step and determining PA contents in cereal grains. Although the genetic modification of PA biosynthesis enzymes can reduce PA levels in grains by disrupting enzyme function, it often impairs germination and seedling growth. Here we used a plant chemical biol

Natural Compound-Driven Nano-Self-Assembly for Multimechanistic Transdermal Antiobesity Therapy.

Obesity is a complex metabolic disorder characterized by excessive fat accumulation and chronic, low-grade inflammation, contributing to a range of associated diseases. Conventional treatments are often limited by poor targeting, low efficacy, and undesirable side effects. Natural compounds with anti-inflammatory and metabolic regulatory properties have attracted considerable attention due to their safety and multitarget mechanisms. Herein, we propose an effective antiobesity strategy involving the construction of a carrier-free nanodrug (CG NPs) via the self-assembly of two natural compounds,

The Simplest Phosphinylperoxy Radical and Its Isomers in the Photochemical Phosphorus-Hydrogen-Oxygen Network.

The oxidation of phosphine (PH3) plays an important role in the photochemical phosphorus-hydrogen-oxygen network of the Earth's atmosphere. The phosphinyl radical (•PH2) is a key intermediate in the photochemistry of PH3, and its reactions with O2 yield phosphorus oxyacids as stable reservoirs via the intermediacy of yet elusive radicals. Herein, we report the identification of the simplest phosphinylperoxy radical H2POO• in gas phase reaction between •PH2 and O2. The characterization of H2POO• with matrix-isolation IR and UV-vis spectroscopy is supported by D- and 18O-isotope labeling experim

Dual cation-anion substitution in phosphorus-based perovskites A3PX3(A = Ca, Sr; X = Cl, F): structural, mechanical, electronic, and optical properties.

We present a comprehensive density functional theory investigation of cubic perovskites A3PX3(A = Ca, Sr; X = Cl, F) to explore the influence of cation-anion substitution on their structural, mechanical, electronic, and optical properties. Structural optimization confirms lattice expansion when substituting Ca with Sr and F with Cl. Electronic band structure calculations reveal direct band gaps at the Γ point, with values 1.85 eV (2.90 eV) for Ca3PF3, 2.06 eV (2.97 eV) for Sr3PF3, 1.96 eV (2.77 eV) for Sr3PCl3, using the PBE (HSE06) functional, respectively. These results demonstrate that subs
