A dual-channel gas chromatographic method is described in this paper that can be conveniently used for quantitation of NF3/CF4 mixtures with a thermal conductivity detector (TCD) on one channel for the quantitation of high-concentrations, and a pulsed discharge helium ionization detector (PDHID) on a second channel for the quantitation of low concentrations. The interaction between nuclear graphite and molten fluoride salts (46.5 mol % LiF/11.5 mol % NaF/42 mol % KF) is investigated by synchrotron X-ray diffraction and C K-edge X-ray absorption near-edge structure (XANES). It is found that there are a large number of H atoms in IG-110 nuclear graphite, which is attributed to the residual C-H bond after the graphitization process of petroleum coke and pitch binder. A combination of gas-phase 3D quadrupole ion trap mass spectrometry experiments and density functional theory (DFT) calculations have been used to examine the mechanism of thermal decomposition of fluorinated coinage metal carboxylates. The precursor anions, [CF(3)CO(2)MO(2)CCF(3)](-) (M = Cu, Ag and Au), were introduced into the gas-phase via electrospray ionization. Multistage mass spectrometry (MS(n)) experiments were conducted utilizing collision-induced dissociation, yielding a series of trifluoromethylated organometallic species and fluorides via the loss of CO(2), CF(2) or "CF(2)CO(2)".

The inhibitory effect of CH(3)F on methanogenesis in mesophilic anaerobic granules was tested at different concentrations (0-10% v/v, in the gas phase) and verified by the stable carbon isotopic signatures of CH(4) and CO(2). The thermal decomposition properties of hexafluoropropane clean gaseous fire-extinguishing agent were studied in tubular reactor from 500 to 750 degrees C and the decomposed gas was characterized by gas chromatography(GC), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Xenon fluoride nitrate has been synthesized by reaction of NO(2)F with [FXeOXeFXeF][AsF(6)] at -50 °C. Fourier transform microwave spectra in the 6-20 GHz region are obtained for the complex formed between 1,1,2-trifluoroethylene and hydrogen chloride, including both (35)Cl and (37)Cl isotopomers.
