Regional skin hypoplasia has been described in several genetic syndromes, including focal dermal hypoplasia (FDH), microphthalmia with linear skin defects (MLS), oculocerebrocutaneous syndrome (OCCS), and terminal osseous dysplasia and pigmentary defects (TODP). All but OCCS have been reported to follow an X-linked inheritance pattern. We describe a 14-year-old girl with clinical features overlapping with these disorders. She had mild mental retardation, macrocephaly, microphthalmia, right-sided morning glory optic disc anomaly, palmar and lip pits, and polysyndactyly. A swirling pattern of sk

Eye movements constitute one of the most basic means of interacting with our environment, allowing to orient to, localize and scrutinize the variety of potentially interesting objects that surround us. In this review we discuss the role of the parietal cortex in the control of saccadic and smooth pursuit eye movements, whose purpose is to rapidly displace the line of gaze and to maintain a moving object on the central retina, respectively. From single cell recording studies in monkey we know that distinct sub-regions of the parietal lobe are implicated in these two kinds of movement. The middl

Oral-facial-digital syndrome type I (OFDI) is a congenital X-linked dominant disorder characterized by anomalies of the oral cavity, face and digits sometimes associated to cerebral malformations and polycystic kidney disease. The gene, responsible for this syndrome, is ofd1. Clinically it is seen only in females. Lesions of the mouth include median pseudoclefting of the upper lip, clefts of the palate and tongue, and dental anomalies (missing or supernumerary teeth, enamel hypoplasia, and teeth malpositions). Dysmorphic features affecting the head include hypertelorism, frontal bossing, micro

PURPOSE: To report a case of lichen planus-lupus erythematosus overlap syndrome with eyelid involvement. Lichen planus and lupus erythematosus infrequently coexist in the same patients. Ocular involvement has rarely been reported for both diseases.
CASE REPORT: We describe a case of lichen planus-lupus erythematosus overlap syndrome with eyelid involvement. Histopathologic and immunofluorescent studies were done on buccal, lip, left conjunctival, malar, auricular and scalp lesions. The immunopathologic features of the conjunctiva, buccal mucosa and lip were consistent with lichen planus, whil

An uncommon autopsy case involving Proteus syndrome with multiple hamartomatous lesions in a 52 year old woman is reported. At birth, hemihypertrophy was noted on the right side of the face. Leiomyoma of the urinary bladder was extirpated at 37 years of age. She died of sepsis due to a brain abscess. At autopsy, diffuse asymmetrical lipomatosis was noted on the right side of the face, scalp, lip, oral mucosa, tongue and on the left side of the cerebellar peduncle. Multiple meningiomas, cavernous hemangiomas and osseous hypertrophy overlapped in the intracranial regions. The present case is con

Four cases of pediatric Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) with lymphoproliferative disorder are described and other lymphoid lesions in previously reported cases of pediatric AIDS are reviewed. The lymphoproliferative disorder was characterized by polyclonal, polymorphic B-cell content without evidence of cellular atypia, necrosis or prominent mitotic activity but with predominantly extranodal systemic and prominent pulmonary involvement. Since the lesion has overlapping features it is considered to be intermediate between benign and malignant lymphoproliferations and designated as po

Four new species of hoplolaimoid nematodes (Merlinius adakensis, Pratylenchoides megalobatus, Pratylenchus pratensisobrinus, and Pratylenchus ventroprojectus) are described from Adak Island in the Aleutian chain. M. adakensis n. sp. is separated from other species by body length (0.96-1.3 mm), stylet length (32-36 mum), number of tail annules (49-68), and c' (3.1-4.1). P. megalobatus n. sp. differs from all known Pratylenchoides spp. by having a very long esophageal gland lobe (b' = 2.4-3.3, overlap 3-6 times the body width). P. pratensisobrinus n. sp. closely resembles P. pratensis (de Man) F
