Peri-procedural and early body temperature trajectories after endovascular thrombectomy and clinical outcomes in intensive care unit patients with acute ischemic stroke: a retrospective cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Body temperature after endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) is often summarized by single measurements or fever thresholds, which do not capture temporal patterns. We examined peri-procedural and early post-EVT temperature trajectories and their associations with 90-day outcomes in ICU patients with acute ischemic stroke. METHODS: This single-center retrospective cohort included 237 ICU patients undergoing EVT. Axillary temperature was recorded at nine prespecified time points from EVT initiation through 72 h. Patient-specific cubic curves were clustered using Gaussian mixture models.

Physiological Responses to Intermittent Environmental Heat Stress in Mice.

Environmental heat stress is an emerging ecological problem, yet the physiological mechanisms linking repeated heat exposure to cardiovascular disease risk remain incompletely understood. Here, we investigated the systemic, cardiovascular, metabolic, and immune consequences of intermittent environmental heat stress. C57BL/6J Mice were exposed to intermittent hyperthermia (30°C-37°C, 3 h/day, 4 days/week) for up to four weeks under controlled environmental conditions. The core body temperature, blood pressure, and endothelial activation were measured by SoHo telemetry devices, tail-cuff, and in

Stress-specific NONO interactomes reveal a key role of Hsp70 chaperone activity in regulation of paraspeckle formation.

Paraspeckles are stress-induced nuclear RNA-protein condensates that assemble on the long non-coding RNA NEAT1. Their increased formation under certain cellular circumstances has gained growing interest due to their association with serious human diseases, such as neurodegenerative disorders and cancer. The biological functions of paraspeckles still appear obscure, but increasing evidence suggests that they contribute to regulation of gene expression by recruiting specific proteins and RNA molecules. Here, we have characterized and compared two stress-enriched interactomes of the essential par

Dynamic assessment of occupational heat stress in deep mine roadways: A coupled heat-moisture model for predictive microenvironmental analysis.

Deep mining operations generate extreme thermal environments that impose serious occupational health risks on miners. To dynamically capture the spatiotemporal evolution of heat-moisture exposure, we developed a three-dimensional transient model incorporating a moving-mesh technique to simulate progressive excavation. The model, rigorously validated against field measurements (relative errors <2.0 %), demonstrates that excavation induces distinct airflow zones, with vortices near the working face forming critical hotspots of health risk. Within these zones, recirculation drives localized surge

Limitations of the 1D inverse thermal modelling method for ultrasonic thermometry.

Structural health monitoring often involves temperature measurement. However, traditional sensors cannot measure subsurface temperature non-invasively, making them unsuitable for monitoring temperature-driven damage mechanisms such as high-cycle thermal fatigue. This limitation arises, in part, due to effective thermal low-pass filtering caused by material properties. A previous feasibility study demonstrated that subsurface temperature can be inferred non-invasively in mild steel subjected to uniform heating. This was achieved using the ultrasonic-based inverse thermal modelling (ITM) method,

Modulation of host proteostasis by Prevotella corporis via induction of the heat shock response.

Neurodegenerative protein conformational diseases (PCDs) are progressive, currently incurable disorders driven by toxic protein aggregation that leads to neuronal death. Emerging evidence supports a microbial role in PCDs, including the most prevalent: Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease. While metagenomic studies consistently associate gut dysbiosis with these disorders, the mechanisms by which microbes influence host proteostasis remain poorly understood. In particular, considerable attention has been given to proteotoxic bacteria, whereas the mechanisms by which commensal microbes confer pr

Inhibition of transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 (TRPV1) by a novel selective antagonist for anti-nociceptive effect on inflammatory pain without hyperthermia.

Nowadays, chronic pain remains a major clinical challenge because of the unsatisfactory efficacy and nonnegligible side effects of current treatments. Pharmacological antagonists of the transient receptor potential vanilloid-1 (TRPV1) channel for chronic pain relief have been confirmed in numerous preclinical studies. However, no TRPV1 antagonist has been approved in clinical, indicating an urgent need to develop effective TRPV1 antagonists with analgesic properties. In this study, we reported a TRPV1 antagonist 1-(1H-indazol-4-yl)-3-((2-(4-methylpiperidin-1-yl)-6-(trifluoromethyl)pyridin-3-yl

Atypical neuroleptic malignant syndrome without hyperthermia or rigidity in the ıntensive care unit: a diagnostic challenge.

Neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS) is a potentially life-threatening condition associated with dopamine antagonist medications. Although the classical presentation includes hyperthermia, generalized rigidity, autonomic instability, and altered mental status, atypical forms lacking these features may occur and complicate diagnosis. We report a case most consistent with atypical NMS in a 76-year-old patient who developed acute delirium and intermittent paratonia without fever or sustained rigidity following antipsychotic exposure. The clinical course was characterized by marked autonomic insta

Hyperthermia-Enhanced Adeno-Associated Virus Gene Therapy: Mechanisms, Delivery Technologies, and Translational Potential.

Adeno-associated virus (AAV) gene therapy is a promising therapeutic approach for both inherited and acquired disorders, yet its effectiveness is often limited by barriers that reduce target cell uptake and transgene expression. While body temperature is known to have a significant impact on viral infection, its controlled regulation for AAV gene therapy has been little explored. This article reviews therapeutic hyperthermia, carefully controlled mild heating, as a complementary strategy to improve delivery and expression. Evidence from cell and animal studies suggests that transient mild heat

Heat-related illness symptoms among migrant farmworkers: a systematic literature review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Farmworkers are at risk for heat-related illnesses (HRI) due to intensifying heat exposure resulting from climate change. Migrant farmworkers might be at further increased risk due to limited control over workplace conditions and language and cultural barriers. This systematic literature review and meta-analysis aims to assess the global prevalence of self-reported heat-related illnesses among migrant farmworkers. METHODS: We searched five databases for peer-reviewed literature and additional sources to capture grey literature in any language up to October 2024. Studies providing

Neurophysiological measures of exercise-induced fatigue in athletes: a scoping review protocol.

OBJECTIVE: This scoping review will map the existing literature on neurophysiological measures used to assess exercise-induced fatigue in athletes. INTRODUCTION: Exercise-induced fatigue, defined as a transient reduction in physical performance resulting from central and peripheral mechanisms, is a critical factor influencing training adaptation, recovery, and injury risk in athletes. Traditional monitoring tools often lack precision or ecological validity. Neurophysiological approaches, including autonomic, central, and peripheral measures, offer objective means of quantifying fatigue. Howev

Heat stress promotes myocardial injury and ventricular arrhythmia through DRP1-mediated mitochondrial dysfunction.

BACKGROUND: With global warming, extreme summer heat has led to a higher morbidity and mortality of heat stroke (HS). Although heat stress has been linked to arrhythmias and cardiomyocyte injury, the specific molecular mechanisms and effective intervention strategies remain to be clarified. METHOD: We retrospectively collected clinical data from HS patients. A rat HS model was established, and the underlying mechanisms were investigated using biochemical and electrophysiological approaches, combined with proteomics and metabolomics analyses of myocardial tissues and cells. Thermo-Mechanical Deformation, Jamming Risk and Life Management of Main Steam Valves in Ultra-Supercritical Steam Turbines: A Short Review.

Ultra-supercritical (USC) steam turbines combine severe steam conditions with increasingly frequent start-up, shutdown, and load-following operations. Their main steam valves must preserve pressure boundary integrity, sealing, and rapid actuation while non-uniform heating, creep, cyclic plasticity, oxidation, wear, and contact redistribution alter component geometry. However, the relevant evidence remains fragmented across alloy development, component thermo-mechanics, valve aerodynamics, and lifetime monitoring. This short, mechanism-oriented review integrates these domains through a material

Pharmacological activation of HSF1 by HSF1A mitigates heatstroke-induced acute kidney injury via ferroptosis inhibition.

Heatstroke-induced acute kidney injury (HS-AKI) is a serious clinical complication, with ferroptosis implicated in its pathogenesis. While heat shock factor 1 (HSF1) is a known regulator of ferroptosis, its role in HS-AKI remains unclear. Here, we demonstrated that heatstroke triggered ferroptosis-associated renal damage in mice, characterized by elevated serum creatinine, blood urea nitrogen, and tissue iron deposition, alongside transcriptomic signatures of ferroptosis and HSF1 pathway activation. Notably, HSF1 expression was transiently activated by heat stress, and simultaneously promoted

Heat-shock pathway activation by TRC051384 protects spiral ganglion neurons from noise-induced hearing loss.

Noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) is a major public health problem caused by damage to cochlear hair cells, synapses, and spiral ganglion neurons (SGNs). Since effective treatments are lacking, we investigated cellular stress responses induced by moderate and loud noise in a mouse model of cochlear synaptopathy. RNA sequencing and spatial transcriptomics revealed that noise exposure elicited a robust but transient upregulation of endoplasmic reticulum chaperones and proteasome subunits in SGNs and their supporting cells. To target this response, we administered TRC051384, a small-molecule acti

Influence of physiological and pharmacological factors on conducted electrical device safety thresholds.

Conducted electrical devices (CEDs) deliver brief, high-voltage pulses that depolarise peripheral motor nerves and produce transient neuromuscular incapacitation. Although these pulse characteristics generally remain well below myocardial stimulation thresholds, deaths temporally associated with CED exposure have raised concerns that physiological or pharmacological factors present during deployment may reduce the cardiac safety margin or precipitate fatal arrhythmias. This review examines the potential effects of sympathetic activation, metabolic acidosis, myocardial ischaemia, heart failure,

Slc16a5 (MCT6) knockout induces sex-dependent changes in auditory function, hair cell viability and cochlear transcriptomic programs in the mouse.

The maintenance of cochlear homeostasis requires precise metabolic regulation, yet the specific roles of monocarboxylate transporters in auditory function remain poorly understood. Monocarboxylate transporter 6 (Mct6), encoded by Slc16a5, is a membrane transporter of the solute carrier 16 family involved in the cellular transport of metabolites related to energy metabolism and signaling. Here, we investigated the impact of Mct6 deficiency on cochlear physiology, hair cell viability and molecular stability in mice. We identified Mct6 as a critical, sex-dependent regulator of cochlear stress res
