This article reviews the emerging research on domestic violence offenders. A number of psychological and behavioral factors are correlated with battery, including pervasive psychological abuse, alcohol problems, violence in the family of origin, emotional insecurity, and features of antisocial and borderline personality disorders. OBJECTIVE: To determine the extent of physical and psychological abuse of pregnant women in an Australian population.
DESIGN: All women attending the public prenatal clinic of the Royal Women's Hospital (Brisbane) between 23 November and 18 December 1992 were interviewed and asked to complete a self-report questionnaire on their history of abuse.
RESULTS: Of 1014 women eligible to enter the study, 301 (29.7%) reported a history of abuse. Fifty-nine (5.8%) had been abused during the pregnancy. The proportion of women admitting to abuse rose over the duration of pregnancy to 8.9% at 36 weeks.

The present study is an extension of research that examined the relationship between borderline personality organization (BPO), anger (assessed with the Multidimensional Anger Inventory [MAI]), and wife abuse in 120 men who had committed wife assault. This study aimed at describing cases of elder abuse reported by witnesses, intervention offered and opinions of further intervention strategies. This study aimed at describing patterns of abuse of elderly persons living in their homes as experienced by district nurses in a county of Sweden. 12% of the district nurses (n = 153) reported 30 cases. To determine the incidence and type of wife abuse in relation to mental health status, a survey was undertaken in a community-based sample of wives. We studied the incidence of physical and psychological abuse in the family setting. Our analysis included the incidence of all types of aggression which required medical attention in the city of Murcia (Spain) between February and June 1988.
