Vibration disturbance compensation in in situ confocal microscopy.

In situ microscopic measurement, conducted within the natural environment of a material or device, offers precise observations directly at the sample location, mitigating potential damage or deformation during transport. However, the inherent vibration of microscopic measurement equipment can introduce blurring and distortion to images, compromising measurement accuracy. This study proposes employing an acceleration sensor to detect microprobe vibrations and subsequently calculates three-dimensional coordinate displacements to compensate for measurement discrepancies. This approach can diminis

Effects of Vibration Direction and Pressing Force on Finger Vibrotactile Perception and Force Control.

This paper reports about the effects of vibration direction and finger-pressing force on vibrotactile perception, with the goal of improving the effectiveness of haptic feedback on interactive surfaces. An experiment was conducted to assess the sensitivity to normal or tangential vibration at 250 Hz of a finger exerting constant pressing forces of 0.5 or 4.9 N. Results show that perception thresholds for normal vibration depend on the applied pressing force, significantly decreasing for the stronger force level. Conversely, perception thresholds for tangential vibrations are independent of the

A Miniaturized Ultrasonic Micro-Hole Perforator for Minimally Invasive Craniotomy.

OBJECTIVE: Micro-hole perforation on skull is urgently desired for minimally invasive insertion of micro-tools in brain for diagnostic or treatment purpose. However, a micro drill bit would easily fracture, making it difficult to safely generate a micro-hole on the hard skull. METHODS: In this study, we present a method for ultrasonic vibration assisted micro-hole perforation on skull in a manner similar to subcutaneous injection on soft tissue. For this purpose, a high amplitude miniaturized ultrasonic tool with a 500 μm tip diameter micro-hole perforator was developed with simulation and ex

Investigation on Quasi-Lamb Wave Modes in AlN-on-Si MEMS Resonators.

Aluminum nitride (AlN)-on-Si MEMS resonators operating in Lamb wave modes have found wide applications for physical sensing and frequency generation. Due to the inherent layered structure, the strain distributions of Lamb wave modes become distorted in certain cases, which could benefit its potential application for surface physical sensing. This article investigates the strain distributions of fundamental and 1st-order Lamb wave modes (i.e., S0, A0, S1 , and A1 modes) associated with their piezoelectric transductions in a group of AlN-on-Si resonators. The devices were designed with notable c

Activation function 2 (AF2) domain of estrogen receptor-α regulates mechanotransduction during bone fracture healing in estrogen-competent mice.

External mechanostimulation applied by whole-body low-magnitude high-frequency vibration (LMHFV) was demonstrated to cause no or negative effects on fracture healing in estrogen-competent rodents, while in ovariectomized (OVX), estrogen-deficient rodents bone formation after fracture was improved. Using mice with an osteoblast-specific deletion of the estrogen receptor α (ERα), we demonstrated that ERα signaling in osteoblasts is required for both the anabolic and catabolic effects of LMHFV during bone fracture healing in OVX and non-OVX mice, respectively. Because the vibration effects mediat

Research on the Method of Reducing Dynamic Cutting Force in Aspheric Machining.

With the rapid development of photoelectric communication and other fields, the demand for high-precision aspheric mirrors has been increasing. Predicting dynamic cutting forces is vital in selecting machining parameters and also affects the surface quality of the machined surface. This study comprehensively considers the effects of different cutting parameters and workpiece shape parameters on dynamic cutting force. The actual width of cut, depth of cut, and shear angle are modelled while considering the effects of vibration. A dynamic cutting-force model considering the aforementioned factor

A novel rat-tail model for studying human finger vibration health effects.

It has been hypothesized that the biodynamic responses of the human finger tissues to vibration are among the major stimuli that cause vibration health effects. Furthermore, the finger contact pressure can alter these effects. It is difficult to test these hypotheses using human subjects or existing animal models. The objective of this study was to develop a new rat-tail vibration model to investigate the combined effects of vibration and contact pressure and to identify their relationships with the biodynamic responses. Physically, the new exposure system was developed by adding a loading dev
