Patients often cite a history of trauma prior to the diagnosis of a sarcoma. Sparse literature suggests that there may be a link between sarcoma development and trauma. A 10-year review of academic tertiary-referral sarcoma center database was examined to identify patients who developed a sarcoma after having a history of a significant musculoskeletal trauma. BACKGROUND: Mucor fungi are found ubiquitously in the environment and rarely cause infections in humans. Mucormycosis is typically seen in immunocompromised patients, but has been increasingly documented in previously healthy trauma patients. Mortality due to these infections can be high due to delayed diagnosis from a subtle clinical presentation and spread of infection by angioinvasion. OBJECTIVE: To explore the effectiveness of one-stage debridement and two-stage Ilizarov bone transport technology in repairing post-traumatic lateral malleolus defect.
METHODS: Between June 2013 and December 2016, 7 patients with bone defect of lateral malleolus were treated. There were 5 males and 2 females with an average age of 45.9 years (range, 35-60 years). There were 6 cases of traffic accident injury and 1 case of strangulation injury. All patients had extensive soft tissue injury and lateral malleolus bone exposure.
