OBJECTIVES: To investigate the clinical characteristics of pharyngeal and laryngeal lesions in patients with anti-melanoma differentiation-associated gene 5 antibodies-positive dermatomyositis (anti-MDA5-positive DM).
METHODS: Serological indicators of 131 anti-MDA5-positive DM patients were analysed. All 35 patients with pharyngeal and laryngeal symptoms underwent electronic laryngoscopy examinations.

AIMS: Limited evidence exists on the incidence of osteoradionecrosis (ORN) specifically for oral cavity (OC) cancer alone. The primary objective of this study was to determine the incidence of ORN for each subsite of the OC. The secondary objective was to analyse the risk factors for ORN development.

PURPOSE: The prognostic significance of pathological depth of invasion (p-DOI) is widely acknowledged, leading to its inclusion in the clinical and pathological staging systems for Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma (OSCC) in the 8th Edition of the AJCC Cancer Staging Manual. BACKGROUND: Melanotic neuroectodermal tumors of infancy are rare, benign neoplasms predominantly affecting the craniofacial region, and they are typically managed through resection with minimal need for reconstruction. However, in exceptional cases, larger or more complex tumors may necessitate open craniofacial approaches, with limited literature detailing the surgical strategies for these scenarios. The authors report a distinctive case of an aggressively expanding melanotic neuroectodermal tumor of infancy in a pediatric patient, describing their approach for the tumor's resection.

INTRODUCTION: Nervous patients often postpone dental visits until they are in severe pain, exacerbating anxiety. Buccal patches provide a noninvasive method of delivering drugs between the upper gum and cheek, offering local and systemic effects. This experimental assessment was carried out to study the viscoelastic performance of crude oil-xanthan emulsions employing a RheoStress RS100 rheometer. Crude oil with a concentration range of 0−75% by volume was used to prepare the oil-gum emulsions. Two xanthan gums of Sigma and Kelzan were added in the emulsions with concentration ranges of 0−104 ppm. Minocycline, a type of tetracycline, is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that is commonly prescribed in dermatology for the treatment of acne vulgaris. Common side effects of minocycline include nausea, vertigo, and dizziness while less common side effects include hyperpigmentation. In this case study, we found an 18-year-old female who presented with dark blue pigmentation in her upper gum after using minocycline on and off for 4 years. After discontinuation of the minocycline for 2 years, the pigmentation decreased gradually.

Paediatric orbital cellulitis is a potential sight- and life-threatening condition. A previously healthy 11-year-old girl sustained a mosquito bite on her right cheek while on holiday in rural Bangladesh. A painless lump developed at the site, and over the ensuing 2 months gradually expanded. She was otherwise completely asymptomatic; there was no family history of note. On examination, there was obvious swelling affecting the right cheek and visible abnormality of the upper gum with displacement of the right upper central incisor (figure 1).

BACKGROUND: Gingival metastasis from primary hepatocellular cancer (HCC) is rare, highly malignant, and generally has no distinct symptoms. Not performing a biopsy can lead to misdiagnosis.
