Ultrasonication may be a cost-effective emulsion formation technique, but its impact on emulsion final structure and droplet size needs to be further investigated. Metastases to the gingiva are uncommon. They can be a diagnostic challenge clinically because of their rarity and tendency to mimic benign lesions. We present the case of an undifferentiated small cell lung carcinoma in a 76-year-old man whose left lower gum showed a lesion similar to pyogenic granuloma. Biopsy confirmed gingival metastasis of lung cancer. We make a differential diagnosis of proliferative lesions and metastatic tumors.

PURPOSE: To design an applicator for the treatment of tumors of the upper gum (UGCs) with high-dose-rate (HDR) brachytherapy.
METHODS AND MATERIALS: A customized mold with four 6-Fr catheters was built. The two halves of the paired catheters form a functional loop without sharp curves.
RESULTS: An adequate dose to the surface of the tumor is ensured.
CONCLUSIONS: Mold-based HDR brachytherapy seems ideally suited for UGCs.

We report two cases of radiation-induced sarcoma after chemoradiation therapy in nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Case 1: A 40-year-old man developed a malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor (MPNST) in the posterior floor of the nasal cavity 10 years after treatment for nasopharyngeal cancer. Case 2: A 64 year-old man developed a malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH) of the lower gum 10 years after treatment of nasopharyngeal cancer. Despite radical surgery, the man with MPNST had a recurrent tumor and died of the disease.

A total of 214 sheep with lesions of the oral mucosa were recorded at the Veterinary Laboratories Agency regional laboratories between March 15, 2002 and February 28, 2003.
