METHODS: Between March 2009 and June 2013, 8 cases of hand degloving injury with thumb defect caused by machine twisting were treated. A 63-year-old man dropped a metal chunk onto his left foot during his work and suffered a crush injury of the left forefoot. He underwent Chopart's amputation followed by stump coverage with sole skin at the orthopedic department on the same day. BACKGROUND: Benign subcutaneous emphysema caused by a valve mechanism and subsequent air entrapment is rare. Less invasive treatment can be performed, but acute life-threatening infectious diseases should be ruled out before treatment; these include gas gangrene or other infections caused by gas producing bacteria.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: We retrospectively report on three patients with chronic wounds who developed benign subcutaneous extremity emphysema caused by valve mechanisms with subsequent air entrapment. Patient 1 had a chronic wound at his stump after a lower leg amputation years ago.

The causes, influencing possibility of a knee joint preservation, when performing tne lower extremity high amputation, were analyzed in 65 patients while occurrence of purulent-necrotic complications of obliterating angiopathy. In accordance to results of logistic regression the value of comorbidity index 4 and more have appeared significant as a predictor of impossibility to preserve a knee joint. In its bigger or lesser values a success or failure of transtibial amputation is possible.

A young Labrador Retriever was presented for treatment of severe distal hindlimb necrosis caused by bandage ischemia. During digit amputation at the metatarsophalangeal joints, the third and fourth digital pads were salvaged and transferred to the metatarsal stump to create a weight-bearing surface. Negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) was utilized for flap immobilization and to promote granulation tissue in the remaining wound defect. BACKGROUND: We report our experiences of prosthetic fitting in quadruple amputees. Two patients underwent quadruple amputation after suffering from disseminated intravascular coagulation in conjunction with pneumococcemia with purpura fulminans.

The authors compared the informative value of the intraoperative criteria for assessing viability of muscles in high amputations of limbs for chronic critical ischaemia.
