Posterior Hip Dislocation with Ipsilateral Subtrochanteric Femur Fracture: A Rare Case Report.

INTRODUCTION: Posterior dislocation of the hip associated with an ipsilateral subtrochanteric femur fracture is a rare and technically challenging injury pattern, most commonly seen after high-energy trauma such as road traffic accidents. The associated proximal femoral fracture disrupts the normal femoral lever arm, making closed reduction difficult or impossible and often necessitating open reduction. Delay in diagnosis or treatment may result in complications such as avascular necrosis of the femoral head, post-traumatic arthritis, sciatic nerve injury, and poor functional outcomes. CASE R

Can't Intubate, Can't Oxygenate Airway Failure Due to Post-thyroidectomy Cervical Hematoma: A Case Report.

Post-thyroidectomy cervical hematoma is an uncommon but potentially fatal complication that may rapidly progress to life-threatening airway obstruction. We report the case of a 49-year-old woman who developed severe respiratory distress, marked cyanosis, and loss of responsiveness approximately four hours after total thyroidectomy with central compartment neck dissection. Immediate bedside wound opening and hematoma evacuation were performed, but adequate oxygenation was not restored. Two attempts at tracheal intubation using direct laryngoscopy were unsuccessful because severe upper-airway ed

Open reduction and internal fixation of Type I Monteggia Equivalent fractures: A case series with excellent functional outcomes.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Monteggia equivalent fractures, a spectrum of proximal ulnar and radial injuries extending beyond classic Monteggia patterns, are rare and diagnostically challenging, particularly in adults. Delayed presentation further complicates management and increases the risk of long-term morbidity. This report details a case series of two adult patients with Type I Monteggia Equivalent fractures, one with a delayed presentation, successfully treated with open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) of the radial fracture. We aim to elucidate effective diagnostic and treatment

Periacetabular Osteotomy and Combined Open Femoral Head-Neck Junction Osteochondroplasty: A Concise Follow-up of a Previous Report at a Mean 10-Year Follow-up.

BACKGROUND: Hip dysplasia is a well-established cause of hip dysfunction and secondary osteoarthritis in young adults. Periacetabular osteotomy (PAO) is a common surgical treatment for symptomatic acetabular dysplasia. Recent awareness of concomitant impingement in dysplastic hips has led to inclusion of osteochondroplasty (OCP) for femoral head-neck abnormalities in select cases to improve survivorship and clinical outcomes. PURPOSE: To compare outcomes, reoperation rates, radiography, survivorship, and complications at a mean of 10 years after PAO with and without femoral head-neck OCP. ST

Recent advances in membrane vesicles of Streptococcus mutans: biogenesis, regulations, and functions.

BACKGROUND: Streptococcus mutans (S. mutans) is a major cariogenic pathogen in the oral cavity that actively releases membrane vesicles (MVs) encapsulating proteins, lipids, and nucleic acids. These highly heterogeneous MVs not only help regulate homeostasis of the local oral microecology but may also affect systemic health. A comprehensive review of the physiological characteristics of S. mutans MVs is therefore of considerable research value. OBJECTIVE: By summarizing the latest advances in research on S. mutans MVs, this review provides a broad overview of the relevant studies to elucidate

MaTrICS: Micromobility Associated With Trauma and Its Clinical and Socioeconomic Impact.

Micromobility includes lightweight vehicles, such as bicycles and electric scooters, with limited speed and weight, and is promoted as a sustainable alternative for urban transport. Its expansion has been accompanied by a significant rise in accidents, particularly among users without helmets or under the influence of alcohol. In Portugal, despite growing adherence, data on the clinical and economic impact of micromobility remain scarce. This study aims to characterise the morbidity, severity, and associated costs of these accidents in a Portuguese tertiary hospital between 2019 and 2022. A re

Percutaneous Minimal Access Approach for Open Reduction and Internal Fixation of Zygomatic Arch in Zygomatic Complex Fractures: A Simple and Effective Technique.

Fixation of the zygomatic arch (ZA) in zygomatic complex fractures is often avoided because traditional approaches are extensive and pose a risk to the facial nerve. The percutaneous minimal-access approach for open reduction and internal fixation of ZA offers a simple, effective alternative, while ensuring stable fixation. Unlike conventional hemicoronal or preauricular techniques, it avoids large incisions, reduces scarring, and preserves the facial nerve. Key advantages include shorter operative time, reduced hospital stay, improved cosmetic outcomes, and minimal additional equipment, makin
