Fracture of a zygomatic implant is an uncommon but clinically challenging complication. Conventional management generally involves implant removal or alternative anchorage strategies, both of which may require extensive surgery, increase patient morbidity, and compromise an existing implant-supported rehabilitation. This technical report describes the development, biomechanical validation, and first clinical application of a novel prosthetic rescue device for the conservative management of cervical fractures of zygomatic implants while preserving the osseointegrated apical segment. INTRODUCTION: Pseudoaneurysms following mandibular condylar fractures are extremely rare and usually present weeks after trauma. Acute life-threatening presentations are exceptional.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A 19-year-old man was admitted in hemorrhagic shock after high-energy facial trauma. Imaging revealed bilateral comminuted condylar fractures associated with an actively bleeding pseudoaneurysm of the distal external carotid artery. Emergency endovascular coil embolization achieved rapid hemorrhage control, followed by surgical fixation of the mandibular symphysis. Postoperatively, the pati

Submental intubation, first described in 1986, is an effective alternative to tracheostomy in patients with complex facial fractures in whom nasotracheal intubation is contraindicated and orotracheal intubation would interfere with the surgical field. We report the case of a 38-year-old man with a history of morbid obesity who suffered a panfacial fracture with involvement of the frontal sinuses and intracranial communication after falling from a second floor. Nasotracheal intubation was contraindicated, and orotracheal intubation would have interfered with the planned intermaxillary fixation.

The selection of surgical approaches for mandibular condylar fractures faces dual challenges of anatomical complexity and the risk of complications. This article reviews conventional approaches and proposes a classification system centered on anatomical pathways. In light of the growing emphasis on aesthetic demands and advances in minimally invasive techniques, the evolution and implementation of the "facial scarless" concept are discussed. Particular attention is given to the endoscopic intraoral and retroauricular transmeatal approaches, with analysis of their clinical applications, advanta

Orbital trauma is a common consequence of craniofacial injury with potential for permanent vision loss. Rapid, accurate imaging interpretation is essential for triage and surgical planning. Multidetector computed tomography is the primary modality, enabling detection of fracture patterns, globe injury, extraocular muscle entrapment, and vascular complications. This article offers a systematic approach to orbital trauma evaluation, emphasizing findings that require urgent intervention, such as globe rupture, retrobulbar hematoma, muscle entrapment with ischemia, and orbital apex involvement. Facial fracture surgery aims to restore function and facial form while minimizing morbidity; however, late complications may still arise. With the growing use of electric scooters and e-bikes, the epidemiology of facial trauma has shifted, requiring updated characterization. This retrospective cohort study included all patients who underwent operative repair of facial fractures at a tertiary maxillofacial trauma center between 2017 and 2022. Demographic features, mechanism of injury, fracture pattern, treatment modality, and 6-month postoperative outcomes were analyzed. A total of 254 surgical

Mandibular condyle fractures are among the most common mandibular injuries, and management is a subject of debate. The most common classification systems are highlighted. Algorithm-based clinical decision making may help practitioners in their management. This review focuses on the history and management strategies, including non-surgical, closed treatment, and open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF). ORIF has been increasing in favor over the past decade owing to reduced complications compared with nonsurgical treatment. The surgical approaches and plating techniques have continued to evo

AIM: Conservative treatment of pediatric condyle fractures remains the generally accepted norm even today. However, longterm results of conservatively treated displaced pediatric condyle fractures often display adverse effects on the affected temporomandibular joint (TMJ), and also on the growing facial skeleton. We analyzed results of surgical treatment in pediatric intraarticular condyle fractures.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Children with displaced intraarticular condyle fractures were treated surgically, with open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF). The articular disc was addressed in each

Achieving stable fixation in the treatment of mandibular condylar base fractures is critical for preventing complications and restoring function. The aim of this study was to biomechanically evaluate and compare titanium, 60% carbon fiber-reinforced polyetheretherketone (Cfr-PEEK), and resorbable polymer plates used in the fixation of condylar base fractures under single- and double-miniplate configurations using finite element analysis. A three-dimensional mandibular model representing a condylar base fracture was constructed, and finite element models incorporating different plate materials

Nasal fractures are the most common facial fractures, with a higher incidence in males. They typically result from trauma related to sports, accidents, or physical violence, often involving alcohol. Accurate assessment requires knowledge of nasal anatomy, as fractures may involve both bony and cartilaginous structures. Presentation includes swelling, epistaxis, deformity, and nasal obstruction. The trauma's mechanism and patient's age influence the fracture type. Diagnosis is primarily clinical, as imaging has limited diagnostic value and does not alter management. Closed reduction is ideally

OBJECTIVE: The existing extraoral approaches cannot meet the aesthetic requirements of the patients with subcondylar fractures well because of visible extraoral scars. Endoscopic-assisted intraoral approach is an aesthetic approach without visible extraoral scars, but it requires expensive equipment and has a steep learning curve, which precludes its use in most hospitals. This study aimed to explore open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) of subcondylar fracture using a postauricular-groove approach without endoscopic assistant and to assess the aesthetic outcomes and complications.

Background and Objectives: The surgical management of three-wall orbital fractures remains a significant challenge due to complex anatomy, limited exposure, and the absence of clear landmarks. These extensive reconstructions are rare and traditionally burdened by high complication rates and inconsistent outcomes. This study presents a standardized surgical protocol for complex three-wall orbital reconstruction, highlighting the role of digital planning and a novel two-piece interlocking patient-specific implant (PSI). Materials and Methods: Between 2018 and 2024, 17 patients with unilateral th

PURPOSE: The choice of reconstructive material for orbital floor fractures remains a subject of debate. While autologous bone has historically been considered the "gold standard," alloplastic implants offer potential advantages in reducing surgical morbidity. This meta-analysis aimed to compare the safety and efficacy of autologous bone grafts versus alloplastic implants in orbital floor reconstruction.
METHODS: A systematic review was conducted in accordance with PRISMA guidelines (PROSPERO: CRD420251140583). Electronic databases (PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, Cochrane Library) were search

Fractures of the zygomaticomaxillary complex (ZMC) represent one of the most frequent midfacial injuries and, if untreated, can result in significant functional and aesthetic sequelae. While open reduction and internal fixation is the standard of care for acute fractures, late presentations remain challenging due to bone remodelling and altered anatomical landmarks. Secondary corrective options include skeletal repositioning via zygomatic osteotomy or implant-based camouflage. We present the case of a young female patient with a displaced ZMC fracture left untreated following urgent cranioplast

The gold standard for central arch defects of the mandible is reconstruction with vascularized bone free flap. Free flap repair is always not an option due to lack of resources and in patients who are not healthy enough for lengthy surgery. In these situations, a standardized method of repair is by reconstruction plate and wrapping it with a regional flap like pectoralis major myocutaneous flap (PMMC). However, this method of repair has increased risk of plate exposure, plate fracture, partial or complete flap necrosis, and delayed decannulation, swallowing, adjuvant treatment. Hence, we descr

BACKGROUND: Dry mouth is a common perioperative patient complaint. There are a number of treatments used for dry mouth in other settings which are effective. None have been tested previously in the perioperative setting. Interventions to Manage Dry mouth (IM DRY) compared the effect of water and a saliva substitute on mouth dryness. The primary objective was to demonstrate the feasibility of conducting a large randomised controlled trial and secondary scientific aims were to assess treatment potential efficacy.
METHODS: Single blind, pilot randomised controlled trial (RCT) of 101 pre-operativ
