A 4-year-old boy was referred to our tertiary hospital after a penetrating adnexal injury by a large-breed dog to the left orbital area. There was an increase in lacrimation, which was thought to be due to an inflammatory reaction. However, it was discovered that the lacrimation increased in the reverse-Trendelenburg position and with the Valsalva maneuver. Halo sign and beta transferrin test were positive, which led to the diagnosis of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) fistula, and the patient was operated using a supraorbital craniotomy. A dural tear was visualized and sutured appropriately, then fi

Duane retraction syndrome (DRS) is a rare congenital nonprogressive restrictive strabismus. The absence/hypoplasia of the abducens nerve and the aberrant innervation of the lateral rectus muscle by the oculomotor nerve have been hypothesized as causes of DRS, although the phenomenon of globe retraction can also occur in the setting of mechanical factors, such as congenital abnormal orbital structures or orbital trauma. We present the cases of 2 DRS patients with absent abducens nerve and abnormal muscular bands connecting the superior rectus and inferior rectus muscles on the temporal side of

BACKGROUND: High-pressure injection injuries are rare injuries and are frequently underestimated due to the limited external damage. Because of their association with occupational activities, these injuries are predominantly seen in hands. Facial involvement in such traumas is extremely rare. The difference in facial anatomy compared to the extremities demands careful consideration of both associated complications and treatment options.
CASE: A 6-year-old girl with no significant medical history was presented to the Emergency Department with a high-pressure injection injury to her right eye w

Hydrogel scleral buckles are a hydrophilic explant that may lead to significant delayed complications. They can insidiously enlarge over decades and may mimic an orbital tumor or cyst. The authors report a case of an expansive hydrogel scleral explant in a previously eviscerated socket. A 58-year-old male presented with a 2-week history of severe pain in his left anophthalmic socket. And 31 years prior, he had sustained OS trauma and undergone a series of surgeries. Details of these procedures were unavailable; however, he had ultimately proceeded to globe evisceration. MRI revealed a large lo

We report a rare case of Saturday Night Retinopathy (SNR) following postoperative orbital compression bandaging, highlighting the value of multimodal imaging in diagnosis and management. A 24-year-old male underwent surgical repair of an inferior orbital wall fracture with an absorbable implant, followed by compression bandaging of the right eye for three days. Upon bandage removal, the patient experienced a significant drop in visual acuity (VA) from 20/20 to 20/200. Multimodal imaging, including diagnostic imaging and angiography, revealed retinal and choroidal ischemia without optic nerve c

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Orbitocranial penetrating injuries (OPI) are uncommon types of head injuries, accounting for about 0.04% of all head injuries. Foreign bodies penetrating the orbit and cranium cause fractures, leading to ophthalmic and neurological manifestations. These require a specialized treatment approach that mainly depends on the foreign body type, extent of injury, and potential complications. Management involves foreign body removal, reconstruction, and infection control.
CASE DETAILS: We discuss a case of a 25-year-old male who presented with a penetrating cranio-orbital

INTRODUCTION: Open globe injuries are a major cause of visual impairment in children, related to the severity of the trauma or secondary to induced amblyopia. Intraocular foreign bodies (IOFB) have been reported in approximately one third of cases of open globe injuries. As clinical presentation and management may differ between adults and children, data is lacking about IOFBs in children under 18years of age. The purpose of this study was to assess the clinical characteristics and visual prognosis of ocular trauma associated with intraocular foreign bodies in children.
MATERIALS AND METHODS:

INTRODUCTION: Intraorbital foreign bodies (IOFBs) represent a clinical challenge: surgical management can be controversial and different strategies have been proposed. When removal is recommended, depending on the location and nature of the IOFB both external and endoscopic approaches have been proposed, with significantly different surgical corridors to the orbit and different morbidities.
METHODS: We performed a literature review of cases of IOFBs that received exclusive endoscopic transnasal surgical treatment to evaluate the role of this surgery in these occurrences. We also present a cas
