A Modified Direct Lateral Approach for Lateral Border and Scapular Spine Fixation in Floating Shoulder.

Floating shoulder injuries are rare but require careful management to ensure functional recovery. Traditional approaches for scapular fixation often necessitate multiple incisions. We present a modification of the direct lateral approach that allows for scapular lateral border and scapular spine fixation using a single incision with utilization of subdeltoid space. A 48-year-old male patient presented with a displaced extra-articular scapular fracture associated with a midshaft clavicle fracture following a motor vehicle accident. The patient underwent open reduction and internal fixation (ORI

Open reduction can be a reasonable, safe and effective choice in complex paediatric supracondylar humeral fractures operative treatment.

BACKGROUND: Supracondylar humeral fractures are among the most common paediatric injuries. Displacement and consequent need for reduction impose operative treatment. Restoration of the anatomy of the distal part of the humerus prevents deformities and functional disorders of the elbow and upper limb. Stable K-wire fixation can be succeeded either by closed or open reduction method. AIM: To investigate the safety and efficacy of open reduction method in the operative treatment of Gartland type III and IV supracondylar humeral fractures in children. METHODS: We retrospectively studied 131 case

Assessing donor site morbidity of the anterolateral thigh flap after extremity reconstruction.

The anterolateral thigh (ALT) flap has become a workhorse flap for plastic surgeons due to its versatility. These flaps comprise a significant amount of skin and soft tissue and feature a reliable vascular pedicle with a wide diameter, allowing for their use either freely or as a vascular pedicle. However, complications at the donor site can vary widely, affecting both the aesthetic appearance and functionality of the thigh, ranging from minor to more complex issues. This study evaluates the aesthetic and functional outcomes at donor sites for patients who underwent free ALT flap surgery to re

Topographic anatomical landmarks for targeted nerve infiltration in distal radius fracture surgery.

The study focuses on the increasing incidence of distal radius fractures, particularly in individuals under 15 and over 50, and the critical need for effective perioperative pain management strategies. Distal radius fractures often require surgical intervention and pain control, essential to enhancing recovery and minimizing complications like chronic regional pain syndrome (CRPS). Standard analgesic options include hematoma blocks, Intravenous regional anesthesia (IVRA), regional nerve blocks, sedation, and general anesthesia. This research proposes a nerve block approach targeting the anteri

Functional and Radiological Outcomes Following Volar Locking Plate Fixation for Distal Radius Fractures: A Prospective Analytical Study.

INTRODUCTION: Most frequent injuries of the Upper limb are a distal radius fracture (DRF). If they aren't handled well, they might cause problems for a long time. There are several techniques to treat this issue, but volar locking plate fixation has become increasingly prevalent since it may restore anatomical alignment, provide stable fixation, and allow for early movement. This study aimed to evaluate the functional and radiological results of distal end radius fractures treated with volar locking plate fixation. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this prospective analytical investigation, 60 patien

Different treatment for humeral shaft fractures: A network meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: The main treatment methods for humeral shaft fractures include minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis (MIPO), intramedullary nailing (IMN), open reduction and internal fixation (ORF), and non-operative treatment (NonOP). However, the optimal treatment plan remains unclear. This article utilizes a network meta-analysis to compare the therapeutic effects of MIPO, IMN, ORF, and NonOP for the treatment of humeral shaft fractures. METHODS: We searched electronic databases, including the PubMed, Embase, The Cochrane Library, and the Web of Science Databases, from inception to June 1, 2

Efficacy of ultrasound-guided capsular hydrodilatation for refractory post-trauma finger joint stiffness in adult patients.

BACKGROUND: Finger joint stiffness is a common post-treatment complication in patients with upper limb fractures that lowers their quality of life. Physiotherapy is the standard of care for functional restoration in patients with finger joint stiffness. However, in adult patients, physiotherapy alone is not always sufficient to restore joint function. In this study, we report the efficacy of ultrasound-guided capsular hydrodilatation in adult patients with post-trauma finger joint stiffness that did not improve after ≥ 2 weeks of conventional physiotherapy. METHODS: This prospective study inc

Flexor Pollicis Longus Tendon Rupture after Distal Radius Volar Plating and Reconstruction with Interpositional Palmaris Tendon Graft: A Case Report.

INTRODUCTION: Distal radius fractures constitute one of the most prevalent upper extremity orthopedic injuries, predominantly resulting from falls onto an outstretched hand with an extended wrist. Despite volar locking plate fixation emerging as the gold standard treatment for distal radius fractures, it is associated with well-documented complications, such as flexor pollicis longus (FPL) tendon irritation and even rupture. The surgical management of FPL tendon rupture following volar plate fixation poses significant challenges due to hardware-induced tendon attrition and compromised surgical
