PURPOSE: The suprascapular (SSN) and axillary (AXN) nerves are vital for shoulder mobility and are at notable risk for injury during glenohumeral surgeries due to their proximity to key anatomical landmarks. This systematic review evaluates their anatomical positioning relative to the glenohumeral joint and highlights the clinical significance of these relationships in shoulder procedures.
METHODS: A thorough literature search across PubMed, MEDLINE, and Google Scholar (2018-2025) yielded 424 studies. After applying inclusion criteria, 21 articles-including clinical, cadaveric, and systematic

BACKGROUND: Superficial radial neuropathy (SRN) is an uncommon sensory mononeuropathy, and data on neuropathic pain in SRN are limited. This study aimed to determine the frequency of neuropathic pain in patients with SRN and to evaluate its associations with neurophysiological severity.
METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed adult patients diagnosed with SRN. Neuropathic pain was evaluated using the Douleur Neuropathique 4 Questions (DN4) and the Leeds Assessment of Neuropathic Symptoms and Signs (LANSS). Neurophysiological severity was categorized as mild, moderate, or severe according to the

CASE: A 9-year-old boy presented with a severe median nerve palsy 6 months after a simple elbow dislocation. Neurotmesis was confirmed on surgical exploration, and it was repaired primarily in elbow flexion with the arm casted postoperatively. At 1-year follow-up from surgery, the patient reported near normal sensory improvement with motor deficits that did not affect his full return to activities.
CONCLUSION: The median nerve neurotmesis after elbow dislocation without an associated fracture is rare. This case highlights the importance of careful neurologic examination in children sustaining

Background: Brachial artery injuries are common in upper limb trauma and require timely repair to prevent ischemia and limb loss. In developing countries like India, delayed presentation is frequent due to limited access to specialised care, inadequate infrastructure and delays in multidisciplinary coordination, complicating timely revascularisation. This study aimed to evaluate limb salvage outcomes and factors influencing prognosis in patients undergoing delayed repair of traumatic brachial artery injuries. Methods: This prospective study included 30 male patients (ages 18-58 years) with tra

Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is the most common compressive mononeuropathy. In patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), chronic hyperglycemia, microangiopathy, and systemic inflammation increase the vulnerability of peripheral nerves to compression. This study aimed to assess the relationship between CTS severity and clinical, metabolic, inflammatory, and electrophysiological parameters in patients with T2DM. A cross-sectional study was conducted from June 2023 to June 2024, involving patients diagnosed with T2DM. Electrophysiological assessment of the upper and lower limbs was performed

BACKGROUND: This randomized non-inferiority trial was designed to verify whether ultrasound-guided infraspinatus-teres minor interfascial block (ITMB) could produce non-inferior postoperative analgesia in adult patients undergoing arthroscopic shoulder surgery compared with ultrasound-guided interscalene brachial plexus block (ISB), while also comparing the early respiratory safety profiles and postoperative adverse events of the two techniques.
METHODS: This trial adopted a two-arm parallel-group design with blinding for participants and all outcome assessors. A total of 82 eligible patients

Background/Objectives: Reconstruction of complex soft-tissue defects of the arm and elbow remains challenging because of exposed neurovascular structures, wide joint mobility, and the need to preserve function. The pedicled latissimus dorsi (LD) flap remains a valuable option, particularly when recipient vessels are compromised or functional restoration is required. Given the heterogeneity of these injuries, treatment must be individualized according to each patient's defect characteristics, functional demands, and rehabilitation goals, reflecting personalized medicine principles. Holstein-Lewis fractures are spiral fractures in the distal third of the humeral shaft, which carry increased risk of radial nerve palsy compared with other humeral shaft fractures; these fractures are usually managed conservatively. However, there is no case in the existing literature that describes the management of Holstein-Lewis fractures with radial nerve entrapment in a patient with a history of total elbow arthroplasty (TEA). Here, we present the first documented case of a complex revision elbow arthroplasty for Holstein-Lewis fracture with delayed onset radial nerve entrapment after a

BACKGROUND: Chronic pain in patients with multiple overlapping pain syndromes is often refractory to conventional treatments. Peripheral nerve stimulation (PNS) has emerged as a promising neuromodulation therapy, especially when spinal cord stimulation (SCS) is contraindicated or ineffective.
CASE REPORT: We present the case of a 68-year-old man with severe chronic pain in the left hand and wrist following carpal tunnel release surgery, superimposed on a background of cervical and lumbar radiculopathies, degenerative cervical spondylosis, sacroiliitis, and failed back surgery syndrome. Brachial plexus injury (BPI) is a common perioperative complication, often caused by intraoperative trauma or improper positioning during surgery. While some BPIs recover spontaneously, many patients experience long-term functional impairments, particularly in the upper limb. This case is distinguished by its focus on a rare perioperative iatrogenic C5-C6 BPI in an adolescent following laparoscopic surgery. Crucially, unlike many traditional protocols, an early multimodal rehabilitation program was implemented within only one week of diagnosis. This program incorporated physical therapy, neuro

INTRODUCTION/AIMS: Segmental zoster paresis (SZP) of the upper limb is a complication of herpes zoster (HZ), but the risk factors for onset and prognosis of SZP are still unknown. The aims of this study were to analyze the correlations between neural foraminal stenosis (NFS) and the incidence and prognosis of upper-limb SZP.
METHODS: In this retrospective case-control study, 87 HZ inpatients with C5-T1 spinal nerves affected were reviewed and divided into a case group (n = 21) and a control group (n = 66) based on whether they had SZP. Logistic regression analysis was used to assess correlati

INTRODUCTION: The traditional practice of bone setting is more prevalent in developing countries, including India. These traditional practices of fracture management lead to numerous limb-threatening complications like non-union, pressure necrosis, gas gangrene, nerve palsies, necrotizing fasciitis, and most importantly, compartment syndrome. Approximately 75% of acute compartment syndrome (ACS) occurs due to an underlying long bone fracture, most commonly fractures of the tibia, followed by forearm fractures. We report a case of rare occurrence of compartment syndrome of the arm, highlighting

BACKGROUND: The incidence of C5 palsy after cervical surgery (C5P) was high (>5%), although its pathogenesis is still not clear. Although most patients (>95%) could have apparent enhancement, there are still some patients who cannot achieve satisfactory functional recovery, and it seriously affects their quality of life. At present, there is no appropriate animal model that could be used to research new interventions for permanent C5P.
METHODS: Following anatomical validation confirming precise exposure of the C5 ventral root, we established a novel mouse C5P model using a posterior intradura

Liposomal amphotericin B (AmBisome) is a lipid-associated formulation of the broad-spectrum polyene antifungal agent amphotericin B. It is active against clinically relevant yeasts and moulds, including Candida spp., Aspergillus spp. and filamentous moulds such as Zygomycetes, and is approved for the treatment of invasive fungal infections in many countries worldwide. It was developed to improve the tolerability profile of amphotericin B deoxycholate, which was for many decades considered the gold standard of antifungal treatment, despite being associated with infusion-related events and nephr

Upper-limb spasticity after stroke, traumatic brain injury, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, or spinal cord injury limits function and care. Hyperselective neurectomy (HSN)-partial resection of selected motor branches at the muscle entry point-aims to lower tone while preserving voluntary strength. Following PRISMA 2020 guidelines, 10 studies (260 adults) were identified, almost all performed under general anesthesia, with 1 small series using wide-awake local anesthesia with no tourniquet (WALANT). Across studies, HSN reduced spasticity by about 1 to 2.5 points on the Modified Ashworth Sca

The month of March is dedicated to Colon Cancer Awareness. Worldwide, colorectal cancer (CRC) incidence has been on the rise. It is currently the third most common cancer in men (746,000 cases, 10.0% of the total) and the second in women (614,000 cases, 9.2% of the total).1 Arecent meta-analysis reported a 61% risk reduction in CRC incidence with colonoscopy.2 Unlike screening programs for breast and prostate cancers, not only has CRC screening reduced mortality from colon cancer and detected early CRC, it has also decreased the incidence of CRC through detection and removal of pre-cancerous l

BACKGROUND: Digital nerve injuries resulting in gaps not amendable to direct coaptation are frequently reconstructed utilizing conduits or processed nerve allograft (PNA). Concurrent flexor tendon repair necessitates the incorporation of a postoperative rehab protocol. The effects of this early mobilization on digital nerve regeneration following PNA or conduit reconstruction are not known.
METHODS: Patient data collected during the RECON study included static 2-point discrimination (S2PD) and Semmes-Weinstein Monofilament testing following digital nerve reconstruction for gap defects of 5 to
