OBJECTIVES: Radial pressure wave therapy (rPWT) has shown promise in reducing spastic symptoms; however, its application in patients with spasticity following traumatic brain injury, particularly in those with prolonged disorders of consciousness (pDoC), remains underreported. The study aimed to investigate the immediate effects of rPWT on spastic muscles in patients with TBI-associated pDoC.
METHODS: Ten patients with pDoC and upper limb spasticity and ten healthy controls received a single session of rPWT (2.5 Bar, 2000 shots) to the biceps brachii. Assessments were conducted at four time p

BACKGROUND: The Outerbridge-Kashiwagi (O-K) procedure has been widely used to treat elbow osteoarthritis by improving range of motion and alleviating mechanical impingement. Supercharged end-to-side (SETS) anterior interosseous nerve (AIN) transfer has emerged as a promising technique for restoring hand muscle function in patients with ulnar nerve palsy. However, no previous studies have evaluated the combined use of these procedures in patients with both elbow arthritis and severe ulnar neuropathy presenting with intrinsic hand muscle atrophy. We hypothesized that the combination of the O-K p

Brachial plexus birth injuries (BPBI) affecting the C5 to C8 nerve roots commonly impair wrist extension, making its restoration a key goal of reconstruction. However, children with persistent wrist extension paralysis have limited surgical options, particularly in the setting of extensive plexus injury. Notably, infants with C5-C8 injuries often lose wrist extension while preserving median nerve function due to intact T1 contributions. We report two infants in whom wrist extension was successfully restored using an anterior interosseous nerve-to-extensor carpi radialis brevis (AIN-ECRB) nerve

Centipedes are among the largest terrestrial arthropods. Modified walking appendages called forcipules are connected to venom glands and used for predation and defense. Centipede envenomations in humans are relatively rarely reported; however, they can produce clinically significant effects. Most clinical cases are attributed to the genus Scolopendra. Scolopendra dehaani (S. dehaani), the giant Vietnamese centipede, is the largest of the Asian centipedes. A paucity of clinical literature exists on envenomation by S. dehaani, originally considered a subspecies of Scolopendra subspinipes but now

A boy in middle childhood presented with a 1-month history of intermittent discharge from sinus openings on the posterior aspect of the left forearm. Examination revealed two small draining sinus tracts with mild surrounding erythema and induration but no systemic features. Routine blood investigations, plain radiographs and ultrasonography were unremarkable. The draining sinuses and local inflammatory changes were considered consistent with a localised chronic infection; surgical exploration was therefore undertaken and a 9 cm wooden fragment was identified within the posterior extensor muscl

BACKGROUND: Spinal cord injury (CIS) is an exceedingly rare complication of cerebral angiography, with only nine cases since 1962. Pathogenesis remains poorly understood.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 67-year-old diabetic woman presented with dizziness and normal neurological examination. During cerebral angiography, repeated injections of ioversol contrast medium (total 100 mL; approximately 20 min at a single site) were performed into the right subclavian artery for vertebral artery imaging due to vascular tortuosity. The angiography showed normal cerebrovascular morphology, without emboli, stenosis

INTRODUCTION/AIMS: Transthyretin amyloidosis (ATTR), including hereditary (hATTR) and wild-type (wtATTR), often presents initially as carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS), often preceding systemic symptoms by several years. Ultra high-resolution ultrasound (UHRUS) offers detailed visualization of peripheral nerve morphology, but its application in ATTR-related CTS is unexplored. This study evaluated UHRUS features in ATTR-related CTS.
METHODS: This cross-sectional study enrolled 20 individuals with hATTR or wtATTR confirmed by genetic testing, biopsy, or cardiac pyrophosphate scan. Clinical evaluatio

BACKGROUND: Patients who experience spinal injury and secondary paraplegia encounter a variety of risk factors that contribute to the development of subsequent upper extremity pathology. Trauma to surrounding structures, invasive surgical interventions, hardware placement, and overuse of the upper extremity among manual wheelchair users may further increase this risk.
CASE REPORT: A 36-year-old woman suffered spinal and rib injuries, requiring surgical fixation, and recently developed paresthesias in her upper extremities. Prolonged manual wheelchair use presumably contributed to further asso

OBJECTIVES: To examine the mediating role of catastrophizing in the relationship between pain and disability among patients with carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS).
METHODS: Cross-sectional register of 141 patients with CTS. Pain Catastrophizing Scale (PCS) was used. Mediation analysis was used to assess the indirect effect of pain catastrophizing on pain-related disability.
RESULTS: The average age was 54.0 (SD 16.1) years and 89 (63 %) were women. For the total PCS score, the indirect effect was responsible for 31 % (95 % CI 15 %-47 %) to 33 % (95 % CI 15 %-52 %). The highest proportion was obse

INTRODUCTION: Cubital tunnel syndrome is the second most prevalent upper limb compression neuropathy. Limitations in non-operative and surgical treatment warrant an adjunctive preventative approach targeting modifiable risk factors. However, risk factors are poorly characterized given methodologic shortcomings in previous studies.
METHODS: In this case-control study in the UK Biobank (1971 cases, 398,639 controls), multivariable logistic regression with extensive covariate correction was conducted to assess the association between cubital tunnel syndrome and sex, age, ethnicity, socioeconomic

BACKGROUND: Cannabis use has become increasingly common in the general population, with cannabis use disorder (CUD) defined as clinically significant impairment and/or distress related to cannabis consumption. Prior studies have associated CUD with increased postoperative pain and opioid use, but its impact following arthroscopic rotator cuff repair (RCR) remains unclear. This study aimed to compare short- and long-term surgical outcomes following RCR between patients with and without CUD.
METHODS: Using the TriNetX database, we conducted a retrospective cohort study of patients who underwent

PURPOSE: Lunate and perilunate dislocations are uncommon wrist injuries that have a high reported association with acute median neuropathy, frequently referred to as acute carpal tunnel syndrome (ACTS). Previous investigations into the incidence of lunate and perilunate dislocation and acute median neuropathy have often been limited by small sample sizes. The purpose of our study was to report a relatively large cohort examining the incidence of ACTS in lunate and perilunate dislocations and assess predictive risk factors.
METHODS: A retrospective review was performed of all lunate and perilu

BACKGROUND: Cubital tunnel syndrome is the second most common upper limb compressive neuropathy after carpal tunnel syndrome. Occupational hand-arm vibration exposure (HAV) has been linked to peripheral nerve compression, though a causal relationship remains unproven. Prior studies have shown that vibration exposure negatively affects outcomes following carpal tunnel surgery, but its impact on cubital tunnel surgery outcomes remains unclear.
AIMS: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of previous HAV exposure on patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) following cubital tunnel release. Sec

Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is the most common entrapment neuropathy of the upper limb. Although many cases are idiopathic, structural or inflammatory pathology of the flexor tendon sheath can result in secondary median nerve compression. Diabetes mellitus predisposes to such changes due to chronic connective tissue alterations, but secondary CTS arising solely from noninfective flexor tenosynovitis remains uncommon. A 49-year-old woman with recently diagnosed type 2 diabetes presented with a 2-month history of progressive right-wrist pain, paresthesia, and volar swelling. Magnetic resonance

PURPOSE: The suprascapular (SSN) and axillary (AXN) nerves are vital for shoulder mobility and are at notable risk for injury during glenohumeral surgeries due to their proximity to key anatomical landmarks. This systematic review evaluates their anatomical positioning relative to the glenohumeral joint and highlights the clinical significance of these relationships in shoulder procedures.
METHODS: A thorough literature search across PubMed, MEDLINE, and Google Scholar (2018-2025) yielded 424 studies. After applying inclusion criteria, 21 articles-including clinical, cadaveric, and systematic

PURPOSE: Clinical management for brachial plexus birth injuries (BPBI) is often focused on childhood, leaving a gap in understanding of how this condition impacts individuals into young adulthood. Recent studies suggest that pain persists beyond pediatric care, although the long-term trajectory of pain and function remains poorly understood. This study compares pain interference in young adults with BPBI to matched controls. Secondary objectives were to compare pain intensity between groups, examine the relationship between upper limb function and pain, and identify common areas of pain using
