Small RNA sequencing revealed microRNAs involved in growth and development of the oyster mushroom Pleurotus ostreatus.

Although microRNAs are essential regulators of development in complex eukaryotes, little is known about their functions in fungi. With its clear genetic system and ease of cultivation, Pleurotus ostreatus presents a model mushroom for this research. Nevertheless, the role of milRNAs in the growth and development of P. ostreatus is not yet critically understood. This study characterized milRNAs in three developmental stages of the P. ostreatus by combining small RNA sequencing, genomic alignment, and FungiSNC database. The differentially expressed milRNAs showed a dynamic expression pattern, su

Xanthine oxidase inhibitory evaluation of prenylated flavonoids from peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.) shells: in vitro and in silico molecular docking studies.

Sustainable agriculture has become a crucial priority because the improper management of agricultural waste currently contributes to greenhouse gas emissions, as well as soil and air pollution. The shells of Arachis hypogaea L., which is commonly discarded as an agricultural by-product, have been reported to contain various secondary metabolites, including flavonoids, stilbenes, triterpenoids, etc. This work led to the isolation of two new prenylated flavonoids, arachisflavones A (1) and B (2), together with five prenylated flavones (3-7), two prenylated chalcones (8-9), and three prenylated f

Seasonal Multivariate and Spatial Assessment of Heavy Metal Contamination and Associated Ecotoxicological and Human Health Risks in Urban Park Soils: A Case Study From Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

Urban parks in rapidly developing cities face increasing heavy metal contamination, yet seasonal dynamics remain poorly understood. This study evaluated seasonal variations in heavy metal contamination and associated human health risks in two major parks in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. We analyzed 48 surface soil samples (24 locations × 2 seasons) for eight metals using ICP-OES. Pollution levels were evaluated using indices (EF, Igeo, CF, PER, mHQ, TU, and TRI) and GIS-geostatistics. Sources were apportioned via multivariate analysis and positive matrix factorization (PMF), and health risks to c

A role for eIF5A in translational control of stress-inducible proteins in multiple myeloma cell lines.

Impaired protein folding in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) causes ER stress and activates the unfolded protein response (UPR), which can induce apoptosis during prolonged ER stress. ER stress is therapeutically targeted in plasma cell malignancies, such as multiple myeloma (MM), but these treatments remain noncurative, and UPR signaling in B-cell malignancies is incompletely understood. A targeted CRISPR-Cas9 screen in RPMI-8226 cells exposed to thapsigargin identified known ER stress regulators (XBP1, IRE1, and calreticulin) and the translation factor eIF5A (eukaryotic translation initiation

Second-order magnetic properties in paramagnetic molecules from a current density formulation including scalar relativistic effects.

This work presents the theoretical background for the computation of nuclear magnetic shielding, nuclear hyperfine, and magnetizability tensors of paramagnetic molecules using a magnetically induced current density framework to account for both orbital and spin contributions. The resulting magnetizability tensor is fully consistent with the general Van Vleck formulation, recovering the temperature-dependent Curie contribution through the explicit integration of the magnetically induced spin current density. The methodology proposed herein provides a straightforward computational route that byp

Atomic Defect-Mediated Charge Trapping Enables Multimodal Plasticity in van der Waals Heterostructures for In-Sensor Neuromorphic Vision.

Neuromorphic hardware that unifies sensing, memory, and learning at the device level remains challenging due to limited optoelectronic comodulation and rigid architectures. Here, we report a flexible, van der Waals (vdW)-integrated MoS2/hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN)/graphene memtransistor in which defect-mediated interfacial charge trapping enables gate-tunable, multimodal synaptic plasticity under combined optical and electrical stimuli. The device reproduces short- and long-term plasticity, multilevel optical memory, and Pavlovian associative learning via repeated optical-electrical stimulu

Ferroelectric Control of Layer-Resolved Spin and Orbital Transport in a Topological Heterobilayer.

Ferroelectric switching in van der Waals heterostructures provides a powerful route to reconfiguring quantum states and their associated transport responses. Here, we propose a ferroelectric topological heterobilayer in which the stepwise reversal of polarization in the two monolayers enables selective control of spin and orbital transport with reduced mutual interference. Using first-principles calculations, we identify the In2Te3/In2Se3 heterobilayer as a candidate, where this stepwise polarization switching drives successive topological phase transitions from second-order topological to qua

All-Optical Control of Interfacial Polarization in MoS2/WSe2 Heterobilayers.

All-optical tuning of van der Waals (vdW) heterostructures with coherent radiation offers a powerful strategy for manipulating interfacial electronic properties on femtosecond time scales. Using real-time time-dependent density functional theory, we predict a transient out-of-plane polarization in MoS2/WSe2 heterobilayers driven by intense ultrafast pulses. In the weak-field regime, the system preserves its intrinsic type-II band alignment, whereas at intermediate intensities, the field triggers a nonlinear enhancement of interlayer charge transfer. High-harmonic generation spectra undergo a c

Characterisation and degradation of microplastic by Microbacterium aurantiacum isolated from biofloc in white shrimp aquaculture closed system.

This study pioneers the investigation of a novel bacteria isolated from the biofloc of a recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) for its role as a microplastic degrader. A targeted bioflocculant-producing strain was isolated and identified as Microbacterium aurantiacum (formerly known as Microbacterium chocolatum DSM12507) by phenotypic and genotypic analysis. This strain showed a good flocculation rate (95% in a kaolin test), confirming its capacity as a bioflocculant. To evaluate the performance in the degradation of microplastics (polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE) and polystyrene (PS), t

First-principles investigation of type-II GaO/MX2 (M = Mo, W; X = S, Se) van der Waals heterostructures for enhanced optoelectronic, photocatalytic and energy conversion applications.

Two-dimensional (2D) van der Waals heterostructures (vdWHs) offer an effective strategy to enhance the electronic, optical and photocatalytic properties of 2D materials. In this paper, first-principles calculations were used to calculate the structural stability, electronic properties, interfacial charge transfer, optical response and photocatalytic performance of GaO/MX2 (M = Mo, W; X = S, Se) vdWHs. Six stacking configurations were investigated for each vdWH, and their energetic and thermal stability were confirmed by binding energy, interlayer spacing and ab initio molecular dynamics simula

In situ processing of fibrous hydrogels by photochemistry for adaptive cellular microenvironments.

Omnipresent in biology, fibrous networks like collagen possess unique properties: dynamic network via crosslinking and degradation. This intrinsic adaptivity plays a critical role in regulating cell behavior via cell-matrix interactions. Built from biological building blocks, however, these networks are challenging to manipulate or even control. Here, we introduce dynamic network regulation via photochemical control in a synthetic and fibrous highly biomimetic hydrogel. As a proof-of-concept, we demonstrate that the dynamic control over the mechanical properties of this adaptive in vitro model

Unveiling the Interfacial-Wettability-Dependent Growth of Polydopamine: Transmittance Kinetics as a Rapid At-Line Quantitative Probe.

Polydopamine (PDA) deposition is often described as "substrate-independent," yet its early-stage kinetics on chemically well-defined interfaces remain insufficiently quantified. Here, we employ average visible-light transmittance as a rapid, non-destructive at-line kinetic probe to monitor PDA film formation over short timescales (1-20 min) on model hydrophilic (-OH) and hydrophobic (-CH3) surfaces. Combined characterization reveals that wettability governs the initial nucleation and growth modes of PDA and thereby determines the evolution of optical responses and film microstructure. On hydro

Hepatic encephalopathy in shelter-housed Van cats: neuropathology, cytokine immunoreactivity and concurrent hepatic lipidosis.

Hepatic encephalopathy (HE) is a neurological disorder associated with severe hepatic dysfunction or portosystemic shunting and is increasingly recognized to involve neuroinflammatory mechanisms. This study investigated neuropathological changes and cerebral cytokine immunolabelling in shelter-housed Van cats with naturally occurring HE. Post-mortem examinations were performed on 17 male Van cats that had been housed at the Van Cat House in Van, Turkey. Twelve cats were diagnosed with HE, while five cats without neurological signs served as negative controls. Histological examination of the af

Physicochemical properties and antioxidative stability of curcumin-loaded oleogel made with ethyl cellulose enhanced by soy lecithin.

Curcumin-loaded liposome-ethyl cellulose (CLE) complexes are developed to overcome curcumin degradation and weak gel networks in PUFA-rich oleogels. Curcumin liposomes, prepared with soy lecithin and cholesterol, are combined with ethyl cellulose (EC), and the optimal CLE formulation (13 wt% lecithin/EC, 40% ethanol) is selected by encapsulation efficiency and stability. When incorporated into linseed oil, CLE enhances oil binding (91.88%) and hardness (352.47 g) vs EC-only oleogels, indicating reinforced network. CLE oleogels exhibit lower peroxide value (PV) and p-anisidine value (p-AV) than

Nonreciprocal charge transport in quantum materials: From superconductors to magnetic systems.

Nonreciprocal charge transport, where current flows preferentially in one direction, has become a key topic across quantum materials. This review covers some recent progress in bulk crystals, artificial heterostructures, van der Waals systems, high-temperature superconductors, and magnetic materials. The review discusses both intrinsic origins, such as band-structure effects, and extrinsic ones, including vortex motion, device geometry, and heating artifacts. A central focus is the superconducting diode effect due to its application potential, which shows different critical currents for opposi

Elucidating the microstructural deconstruction and accessibility-driven enzymatic saccharification of reed biomass pretreated by p-toluenesulfonic acid-based deep eutectic solvent.

The recalcitrance of reed biomass, arising from the compact lignin-carbohydrate matrix and limited cellulose accessibility, substantially restricts its enzymatic conversion. In this study, a ternary p-toluenesulfonic acid (pTsOH)-based deep eutectic solvent (DES) was developed for selective deconstruction of reed and enhancement of enzymatic saccharification. ChCl:EG:pTsOH (1:2:0.4, molar ratio) operated at 80 °C for 30 min, achieving 58.8% delignification and 63.1% xylan removal while retaining 85.6% of the initial glucan. Structural characterization showed disruption of the lignin-hemicellul
