Decoding myoepithelioma: Highlighting diagnostic dilemmas through a series of rare cases.

Myoepitheliomas are exceedingly rare neoplasms of the salivary glands. Minor salivary gland neoplasms most frequently occur in the palate (hard palate), followed by the lips, oral mucosa, and tongue/floor of the mouth. Additionally, less prevalent locations encompass the retromolar area, pharynx, nasal cavity, paranasal sinuses, and larynx. The lack of distinctive cytologic features and bland morphology in both benign and malignant myoepitheliomas necessitates the use of histopathology and immunohistochemistry for accurate diagnosis. Hence, here, we report a series of three cases, including tw

A Single Centre Cross-Sectional Observational Study on Dermatoscopy of Oral Mucosal Disorders and Histopathological Correlation in Tertiary Care Centre from Central India.

BACKGROUND: A dermatoscope is a non-invasive diagnostic imaging tool that enables to visualise superficial, deeper structures, pigmentary and vascular patterns of skin, nails, hair and mucosa. Oral mucosal lesions are abnormal alterations in colour, surface, presence of swelling, or loss of integrity of mucosal and semimucosal surface. The use of dermoscopy in the characterisation of mucosal disorder is a grey area and needs further exploration. AIM: To describe clinical and mucoscopic features and correlate histopathologically in oral mucosal diseases. METHOD: Single-centre, cross-sectional

The Clinical Relevance of the Lingual Branch in Ridge Augmentation of the Posterior Mandible: A Pilot Cadaver Study.

Guided bone regeneration (GBR) requires a tension-free flap without damaging the collateral circulation in order to secure better surgical outcomes. Topographic knowledge regarding the neurovascular bundles in the posterior aspect of the mandible can prevent complications during lingual flap design. The lingual branch (LB) of the inferior alveolar or maxillary arteries is not sufficiently illustrated or described in the literature. Nevertheless, it has an intimate relationship with the lingual nerve (LN) during ridge augmentation and implant-related posterior mandible surgery. Therefore, this

Surgical Removal of an Orthodontic Mini-Screw Displaced Into the Lateral Pharyngeal Space: A Case Report and Review of Pertinent Literature.

Oral and maxillofacial surgeons are often faced with the clinical challenge of foreign body displacement into the perioral tissues and soft tissues of the head and neck. This mainly occurs either because of trauma or inadvertently during dental treatment. In addition to the maxillary sinus, iatrogenic foreign body displacement during dental treatment could happen into one of the 16 distinct fascial spaces of the head and neck region. Commonly displaced foreign bodies related to dental treatment include tooth roots or fragments, local anesthetic needles, implants and restorations. The clinical

Oral Nodular Fasciitis: A Case Report in an Uncommon Location and Review of the Literature.

Nodular fasciitis (NF) is a benign, self-limiting condition that is often misdiagnosed due to its resemblance to other lesions. Although NF is common, its occurrence in the oral cavity is rare and particularly challenging for both clinicians and pathologists. To date, no case has been reported in the retromolar area of the oral cavity. A 49-year-old male patient presented with a painless, rapidly growing, firm nodule in the right retromolar area. Histopathological examination revealed spindle cell proliferation with characteristics of NF and immunohistochemical analysis confirmed the diagnosis

Newly revealed anatomy of the bucinator muscle: An anatomical and histological study.

BACKGROUND: Current anatomical knowledge of the origin of the bucinator muscle (BM), i.e., long thin attachments on the maxilla and mandible and the pterygomandibular raphe (PMR), is not supported by anatomical dissection of this muscle. The aim of this study was therefore to investigate the detailed morphology of the BM and associated structures and to discuss its function. METHODS: The anatomy of the BM and related structures was investigated in 15 cadaveric heads using a surgical microscope and histological analysis. RESULTS: The inferior fibers of the BM originated from a small retromola

Recurrence in Oral Leukoplakia: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.

The management of oral leukoplakia (OL) is challenging because of a high risk for recurrence and malignant transformation (MT), and recurrent OL is associated with a higher risk of MT than nonrecurrent OL. The present meta-analysis aimed to examine the association between OL recurrence and surgical techniques used for their management as well as their clinicopathological factors. Electronic searches were conducted in EMBASE, PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science to retrieve studies reporting OL recurrence after surgery. The pooled proportion of OL recurrence after surgical excision was estimated.

The Three-Dimensional Investigation of the Radiographic Boundary of Mandibular Full-Arch Distalization in Different Facial Patterns.

OBJECTIVE: Mandibular full-arch distalization (MFD) is a popular approach, particularly in non-extraction cases. However, we still cannot confirm whether facial patterns affect the amount of limits. This study aimed to determine the anatomical MFD limits in patients with different facial patterns. STUDY DESIGN: Using computed tomography (CT), the shortest distances from the mandibular second molar to the inner cortex of the mandibular lingual surface and from the lower central incisor to the inner cortex of the lingual mandibular symphysis were measured in 60 samples (30 patients). Vascular Leiomyoma of oral cavity: A case report in young male patient.

Vascular Leiomyoma of the oral cavity is an uncommon benign soft tissue neoplasia arising from the tunica media of the smooth muscle cells. We reported a rare case of Vascular Leiomyoma involving the retromolar trigone area of a young man. A 24-year-old male presented with a slowly growing mass in the retromolar area, which was associated with pain and difficulty in opening of mouth and eating and drinking. A punch biopsy was taken and sent for histopathological examination which revealed a benign angiomatous lesion. The mass was excised, and the adjoining area was curetted. Histopathological

Nodal Metastasis in Surgically Treated Oral Cavity Squamous Cell Carcinoma.

INTRODUCTION: Management of the neck in oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma (OCSCC) is essential to oncologic control and survival. The rates of lymph node metastasis (LNM) vary based on oral cavity tumor site and stage and influence treatment decisions. The aim of this paper was to describe clinical LNM for different tumor subsites and stages of surgically managed OCSCC. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective analysis of 25,846 surgically managed OCSCC patients from the National Cancer Database (NCDB) stratified by tumor subsite and clinical T-stage. For cN + patients, rates of pathologic LNM

Modified 3-Dimensional Alveolar Ridge Augmentation in the Anterior Maxilla: A Prospective Clinical Feasibility Study.

Vertical and horizontal reconstruction of the alveolar ridge, especially in the anterior maxilla, is considered a clinical challenge for dentists. There is still a lack of a standard technique to address the hurdles in 3-dimensional bone regeneration in the anterior maxilla. In this clinical feasibility study, we aimed to modify Khoury's technique by combining the conventional guided bone regeneration standards with the principles of this technique. The autogenous bone blocks were harvested from the retromolar area and grafted into the deficient anterior maxillae by mini-screws, and the gap wa
