Real-World Airborne Sound Analysis for Health Monitoring of Bearings in Railway Vehicles.

In this paper, the task of detecting bearing faults in railway vehicles during regular operation by analyzing acoustic (airborne sound) data is addressed. To that end, various features are studied, among which the Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MFCCs) are best suited for detecting bearing faults by analyzing airborne sound. The MFCCs are used to train a Multi-Layer Perceptron (MLP) classifier. The proposed method is evaluated with real-world data for a state-of-the-art commuter railway vehicle in a dedicated measurement campaign. Classification results demonstrate that the chosen MFCC fe

Predictive control of earth pressure balance in shield tunneling using a hybrid learning approach.

Existing machine learning-based predictive control systems for chamber pressure face limitations such as improper reference setting, weak dynamic adaptability, and suboptimal parameter tuning. This study proposes a predictive control framework that integrates an adaptively updated LightGBM (AU-LightGBM) with an improved grey wolf optimizer (IGWO). First, theoretical analysis combined with LightGBM is used to estimate the ultimate face support pressure, which serves as the target chamber pressure. Second, an adaptive updating strategy is embedded into LightGBM to maintain stable prediction accu

Research on emergency truck dispatching scheme for the high speed railway freight interruption.

Subject to the risk of disruptions in high-speed rail (HSR) logistics networks caused by natural disasters or equipment failures, this study proposes an emergency scheduling optimization framework based on truck transshipment. By establishing a Mixed-Integer Linear Programming (MILP) model that integrates vehicle deployment point selection, route planning, and timeliness constraints, it achieves, for the first time, multi-level collaborative decision-making covering "vehicle deployment point selection - truck scheduling - goods transshipment" following an HSR logistics disruption. A cascaded detection method for railway foreign object intrusion in extreme weather based on improved LR-ASPP and fused Mamba-YOLO.

Low visibility and image degradation caused by adverse weather seriously threaten the operational safety of high-speed railways. This poses core challenges for existing visual detection methods in complex degradation scenarios, including missed detection of small objects, blurred feature extraction, and insufficient task collaboration. To address these issues, this paper proposes an end-to-end recognition framework that integrates real-time semantic segmentation and object detection. The framework first designs a coordinate attention-guided lightweight segmentation network (LR-ASPP), which ach

Data-driven fuzzy information granulation for predicting freight volume trends.

Rail freight volume trend prediction faces challenges due to data fuzziness, complexity and nonlinearity, and traditional deterministic prediction methods frequently fall short of practical application needs, particularly in addressing uncertainty. To overcome these limitations, we proposed a freight volume trend prediction model that integrated Fuzzy Information Granulation (FIG) with evolutionary optimization. The three-phase methodology establishes: (1)A FIG method was utilized to transform raw time-series into tri-granular representations (Low, R, Up) through fuzzy c-means clustering with

Application of Improved Genetic Algorithm Based on Voronoi Partitioning in Pseudolite Deployment for Tunnel Positioning Systems.

Reliable high-precision positioning in railway tunnels is essential for intelligent train operation and safety monitoring, yet GNSS signals are severely degraded by blockage and multipath. This paper proposes a deployment-oriented numerical framework to optimize pseudolite layouts in tunnels by explicitly modeling visibility obstruction and controlling worst-case geometry along the train trajectory. A high-fidelity 3D tunnel-train model is established, in which line-of-sight (LoS) availability is screened under vehicle occlusion and trajectory-level geometric quality is evaluated accordingly.

Adaptive diversity-perception prompt framework for fault diagnosis with memory quantization.

Incipient fault diagnosis in traction control systems (TCS) is challenged by weak fault signatures with low signal-to-noise ratios, condition-induced intra-class diversity, and cross-domain distribution shifts. To address these issues, an adaptive diversity-perception prompt framework for fault diagnosis with memory quantization is proposed, which operates under an unsupervised domain adaptation setting. Specifically, an adaptive deformation network (ADN) explicitly models and compensates for condition-induced feature distortions to achieve diversity-perception representation alignment. Based

Increasing rail transit ridership by improving passenger ride comfort.

In urban rail transit systems, passenger ride comfort (PRC) significantly influences ridership levels. Various factors affect PRC, with track geometry playing a crucial role. Among geometry parameters, the minimum required tangent length between consecutive railway curves is particularly significant. While this parameter affects passenger comfort considerably, it has received less attention in current design practices. This study addresses this gap by optimizing tangent length requirements to improve passenger comfort. To this end, a vehicle-track interaction model was established and subseque

Energy-efficient, real-time detection of railway fastening systems from drone-based imagery using spiking neural networks.

Rail fastener defects threaten track integrity and operational safety, making reliable automated inspection essential. This study develops an energy-efficient real-time railway fastener detection framework for UAV-based monitoring by integrating Spiking Neural Networks (SNN) into a modified Spiking-YOLOv8 architecture. Unlike conventional CNNs, the event-driven SNN processes only informative visual changes, reducing redundant computation, and achieving a better accuracy-energy balance for on-board inspection. A dataset of 173 images of ballasted railway tracks captured by UAVs was used for dat

Efficient ultrasonic phased array focused wave imaging using retrospective encoding and p-th root wavenumber-domain reconstruction.

Ultrasonic phased array imaging is widely used in industrial non-destructive testing (NDT) due to its advantages of a flexible transmit-receive strategy, high sensitivity and excellent visualization. However, conventional ultrasonic phased array focused wave imaging offers high spatial resolution only near the focal point. Although the retrospective encoding for conventional ultrasound sequences (REFoCUS) technique can reconstruct equivalent full matrix capture (FMC) datasets from focused transmissions, the resulting images still suffer from the high computational cost and limited noise suppre
