Percutaneous cholecystography was performed on 13 children who had biliary system abnormalities: two had biliary hypoplasia, five had sclerosing cholangitis, three had cirrhosis, two had distal choledochal obstruction, and one had an obstructed portoenterostomy. In 12 patients transcholecystic cholangiography showed, without significant complications, the intra-and extrahepatic bile ducts. In one patient with primary sclerosing cholangitis, the intrahepatic bile ducts were not opacified satisfactorily; dilatation of the gallbladder required surgical drainage. The transcholecystic technique is …

Cholecystokinin-cholecystography originated in Stockholm in 1955. At the present time the radiological procedure is conducted under supervision of medical research teams in the United States. The cholecystokininpancreozymin preparation is imported for clinical investigation under "Investigational Drug" regulations. Dr. Donald Hanscom, gastroenterologist, who is conducting clinical investigations in the Midwest, submitted radiographs, publications and evaluations from his files for this manuscript. This gastrointestinal hormone "squeezes out a diagnosis" as it is observed fluoroscopically. Dr. …

The use of infusion cholecystography as an aid in the diagnosis of acute cholecystitis was investigated in 21 patients. Seventeen of 18 patients (94 per cent) with positive cholecyst-tomograms who underwent laparotomy had confirmation of acutely inflamed gallbladders both macroscopically and histologically. These findings suggest that infusion cholecystography can make a significant contribution in reducing the incidence of misdiagnosis in acute cholecystitis, and that the investigation should be part of the management of patients in whom early surgery is planned.

Visualization of the gallbladder by x-ray was first achieved in 1923 by the intravenous introduction into the body of a halogenated compound … the oral administration of halogenated compounds [5,6]. The drugs employed for intravenous and oral cholecystography had been synthesized specifically for that purpose based on earlier experimental work of other investigators. The following account describes in detail the experimental background of cholecystography, its origin, and its development and use during t …

Twenty-six patients who had typical symptoms of biliary tract disease, e.g. postprandial right upper quadrant pain, nausea and vomiting, fat … continuing symptoms suggesting gallbladder disease but normal oral cholecystograms, cholecystokinin cholecystography may be helpful in identifying physiologic dysfunction of the gallbladder.

In order to assess the value of the after fatty meal films, 232 oral cholecystograms were reviewed. Gallbladder opacification, duct visualisation, separation of gallbladder from overlying bowel gas shadows, and the demonstration of abnormalities were assessed from the pre-fatty meal films, and then again in conjunction with those taken after fat, when contraction was also assessed. Of the 200 examinations given the fatty meal, 132 were adjudged normal, 63 had gallstones, four had adenomyomatosis (one with stones), and two cholesterolosis. The post-fatty meal films, were found to be essential f

Duplication of the gallbladder is a rare congenital anomaly. Preoperative diagnosis is sometimes difficult. We report the imaging findings of two cases of gallbladder duplication. Cholecystography and sonography are complementary for this diagnosis.

Patients with the clinical diagnosis of acute cholecystitis were studied with intravenous cholecystography and cholescintigraphy. The two examinations alternated in a random order. The final diagnosis was ascertained by surgery in most patients. Either cholecystography or cholescintigraphy could be used in the diagnostics of patients with suspected acute cholecystitis. The methods have about the same accuracy. However, cholescintigraphy is performed more easily and more rapidly than intravenous cholecystography.

To evaluate the efficacy of real-time ultrasonography in detecting cholelithiasis, a series of outpatients and inpatients was examined by oral cholecystography and real-time cholecystosonography. In 163 patients, real-time cholecystosonography achieved a sensitivity of 0.91 and a specificity of 0.99. These values are equal to or better than those usually obtained in current B-mode cholecystosonography or some reported series of oral cholecystography. However, technically excellent and meticulously performed oral cholecystography achieves slightly better sensitivity and specificity than real-ti…

Early operation of patients with acute cholecystitis is nowadays accepted as the treatment of choice. One prerequisite for this policy is, however, the availability of diagnostic procedures that can rapidly secure or, even more important, exclude the diagnosis to avoid unnecessary operations. Infusion cholecystography was here shown to be an accurate method giving decisive information in patients with clinically suspected acute cholecystitis. The gallbladder was not visualized in 26 out of 45 patients with inconclusive clinical signs of acute cholecystitis. The diagnosis of acute cholecystitis…
